Description

At 29" high, this attractive cedar planter is the perfect height for easy growing, eliminating the need to stoop, bend, kneel and reach. It's a generous 10" deep so you can grow big plants like tomatoes and root crops like carrots. With 16 square feet of growing space, there's plenty of room for multiple crops, yielding a generous harvest. Set up one or more of these rectangular beds around the edge of your patio to create a convenient kitchen garden, or fill them with flowers for a stunning display. Like our other cedar raised beds, the sides are held in place with our sleek and sturdy aluminum corners. There's a false floor made of cedar slats, set 10" down from the top so there's plenty of root space for vegetables and flowers. Excess water drains through slats; vents in the sides allow air to circulate and excess moisture to evaporate.

The information says that you can put it together without power tools. I would doubt it. We began with a screwdriver and quickly gave in to using a power drill. The wood of one of the long sides was split, but not so noticeably that it was worth the trouble of sending it back. The planks that fit in the bottom, did not fit, and so we had to take one to a friend to saw it down by about 2". All that said, now that it is put together, it looks great and has a great amount of space for plants.

    • Heavybig Boxes
    • Very difficult to move

    Best Uses

The very heavy boxes were dumped right in front of my front door; you couldn't go in & out and it was several days before I could get help with moving them. Be sure to specify where you want the boxes put upon delivery. I am curious to see how this cedar holds up; it looks nice but seems a little thin. Id like to order 2 more but will wait to see how these work out. I'm also going to try to raise them a little higher (maybe put cinder blocks under legs?): I'm tall and I have to bend over too much as they are now.

This raised bed planter arrived in great condition, we weren't missing any parts out of the boxes.

As other good folks have said in these reviews, the drill holes don't match up which makes putting this together a bit of a bear. My husband assembled this himself and did a great job despite the drill hole issues.

Of course as soon as it was built we noticed quite a few chipmunks making their way to our deck, so then my husband built what we're calling a "screen house" to go over the raised bed planter. I honestly think Gardeners would do well to sell something similar to our contraption for other people who have critters visiting their gardens.

I have five 12" raised beds in my garden. i loved them once. now that i got this elevated bed, i am in love. easy to tend to because you don't have to bend down. easy to add soil and amendments because the bed is large but long, not wide so you can access it from any angle . I put potting soil along with a growing medium (soil less potting mix) and compost inside. tossed my kale, spinach, lettuce, and mesculin mix seeds in and 7-10 days i had lots of germinating plants. cant wait for harvest time late october/early november.

Just moved to Florida. Planning to plant in September. I am not sure about the soil here compared to Connecticut. The elevated bed will be perfect. I can make sure everything is organic. Did have a little trouble lining up some of the holes when assembling the planter. Over all, it was pretty easy. The look is fantastic. Can't wait to get started gardening.

We used the calculations through the catalog to purchase soil to fill the beds which worked out well. The height is perfect. We did not purchase the drip lines for watering, so we have to water frequently. Harvesting is easy.

Shipping and and receiving great. Directions not very specific.
Lining up the screws and the holes in the metal was VERY difficult.
We had to use a power drill and set the holes prior to putting things together because things didn't line up at all.
Screws were poor quality and would not drill into the metal without resetting the holes.

Finished product looks great and we are happy with our finished product.

From start to finish, assembly took 15 minutes. All pieces lined up well, no warped or cracked boards. Has a very attractive appearance. Would have given five stars if the price was lower...but if cedar isn't available in your area, don't let that stop you!

This was the perfect solution for me to continue gardening with less time and less physical strength available. The ample container right now is holding 4 large tomato plants, 3 pepper plants, 2 basil plants, 6 cucumber vines, and 2 marigold plants. I like the natural cedar as I garden organically.
I plan on buying a second container next year.
