With a capacity of about a half-bushel, each crate holds about 50 apples or potatoes (approximately 20 pounds). Convenient cut-out handles make it easy to carry the bounty to your kitchen, pantry or root cellar. We had an early snow/frost, so I harvested ~50 pounds of green tomatoes. I needed a way to properly store them and found these stacking crates. The crates look nice, the price was right, and arrived in about one week. I anticipate years of use and harvesting with these crates. It's not a big deal, but I spent about an hour assembling three crates. The zipties used for shipping were too tight and damaged the wood a bit, I think it goes well with the rustic look of the crates.

We bought 3 sets of 3 because we wanted to keep separate apples from various trees apart. This was for the process of trying to identify what types of apples we have on our property and identify the taste as well (sweet, tart, astringent, flowery) so that we could choose what apples we could should/could put into an apple cider blend. We labeled all the crates by tree and they stack beautifully. It's nice that there's great air circulation to dry out the fruit.

On long car rides, I've started putting other items I've taken from my garden in a crate and then stacking another crate on top of that one to hold heavier items. This has kept my tomatoes from getting squashed on the ride and allows for more items to be packed into the car.

We had so many apples that I ended up buying 3 more sets of 3, but have not assembled those yet. It's fairly easy to assemble as well.

I bought 3 crates sight unseen, trusting that they would be well made. They are! The handle holes are nicely sanded and comfy to grip. They are roomier that I imagined and they will be stacked with greenhouse supplies.
