I ordered two Fiber Optic Solars Lights and only one works properly. The one with the fixed bulb works fine while the one with the removeable bulb does not.

            • An Attention-getter

Dragonflies... hummingbirds... and now fiber optics!
Everybody's selling things with tiny solar collectors that come on a stick, easy to poke into the ground somewhere. In essence, they add a little "bling" to a garden or lawn, especially at night.
In my opinion, these fiber optics (with all their drawbacks) are probably the best so far, simply because they don't just sit there; they waft and move with every breeze, changing colors, over and over again. Do they get attention? You bet!
I bought two, and set them inside two alternating-height 3/4 inch metal poles, which I painted black. The "stick" part of the light slides inside the pole, right up to the solar panel. My poles are what go into the ground, and the lights fit inside the poles! It gets 'em higher off the ground, at staggered heights, and they stand up straight, almost at eye-level.
I've also put two more poles in places that get intense daytime sun, so all I have to do is move them from one set of poles to another, letting me relocate them at night to what would be a shady area during daylight (if I want to)! That sunlight part is crucial! Here's why:
The catalogs and website emphasize getting 8 full hours of sunlight. That's for a reason; these are powered by only one AAA NiMH battery! 6... or even 7 hours of sunlight won't cut it. They need 8!
Keep 'em away from things like pine needles, birdseed and the like. Fiber optics build up a ton of "static cling", and you'll quickly tire of cleaning out the place where all the fibers join.
All in all: Give 'em better battery power, make 'em bigger and stronger, and these would be terrific! But... if you know what you're getting, pay attention to the drawbacks I outlined, and you'll probably be fine with them.

I was delighted with the product for the first month - it was a lovely addition to my garden, pretty in the daytime and enchanting at night. Then one night I looked out and it wasn't lit as usual - only went to red and then dark. I tried a new rechargeable battery, tightened anything I could think of, but still not functional. I hope they replace it.

                Best Uses

I got 2 of these and put one out, within 6 days it stopped working. I then called and got a replacement and put out the second one and the replacement. These both stopped working before 2 weeks were up. I then got a second replacement and so far after 7 days it is still working, but it has not rained yet, which might be one issue. I also have them in full sun and had 2 other different solar lights right next to them and they are still working after 6 weeks. So they just have some type of flaw in maybe the battery or the solar panel. I will be very surprised if this last light makes it thru the week.

These are very pretty and look great in the garden - for the first year. We purchased the item last summer and loved it, very pretty. However we just recently put out for the second year and the fibers all lay completely over. We tried washing and then dried upside down with a rubberband around to try and get it to pop back up but no luck.

This is in the middle of the veggie garden, so when the wind blows during the day, it keep the birds out of the garden. At night it is agreat show.
