Description

  • Winner of the 2012 Green Thumb Award for Outstanding New Product!
  • Grow a productive vegetable garden in a small space
  • Built to last of solid wood, with dovetail joints and a food-safe finish

Grow plants at an easy working height in this unique patio garden; no bending or kneeling to plant, tend and harvest. The elevated bed means no weeds and fewer pests, too. The V-shape makes efficient use of space and planting mix — grow deep-rooted plants like tomatoes in the center, shallow-rooted crops like salad greens along the edges. Includes a fitted fabric liner to keep soil contained while letting excess water drain. Plastic feet protect wood from wet surfaces. Quality construction and easy assembly.

Specifications

  • FSC-certified, sustainable, plantation-grown fir with non-toxic stain; plastic feet; fabric liner
  • 70" L x 30" W x 31-1/2" H
  • Holds 380 quarts of container mix
  • Easy assembly; requires a Phillips screwdriver and adjustable wrench
  • Liner fabric is imported

    Comments about Vegtrug™ Patio Garden:

This is my first attempt at vegetable gardening. I needed a raised bed for back and knee issues, I also have dogs and a small yard so I did not want them trampling over everything. I searched the internet for something to meet my size and other specifications. I had a neighbor help me with the assembly and it was very easy and clear cut. We also added castors on the bottom so I can easily move the bed if necessary. I am excited to start growing this spring!

      Comments about Vegtrug™ Patio Garden:

The vege trug id an attractive addition to my regular garden. As I age I find the bending over to be a problem. The dimensions (3ft high, 6 ft long) expand my possibilities for gardening. We have also purchased the smaller canvas trugs specifically for flowers..

      Comments about Vegtrug™ Patio Garden:

So, i'm looking at this VegTrug for a while now, it looks like a nice unit. A bit pricey, but i'm thinking a good candidate for an asparagus bed, and good height for my aching back. Unit in the catalog appears to be constructed well, with wood that is sealed for the outdoors. It does look shiny, giving me the thought that it is.
What i received however is not that..... Wood is unfinished, parts that should be the same size, are not... Boards have knots all through and unfortunately for me, at the ends where screws go. So due to poorly measured parts and knotty wood, i had some difficulty constructing. The top apron boards had knots that popped out when screws were put in, causing me to find alternate assembly techniques. I haven't assembled the cover yet, but i am sure it will be a problematic fit, due to the mis-measured parts to which it attaches. Some of the apron boards were as much as 3/8ths of an inch off, which made it impossible to put screws in the ends... the boards are only 5/8ths thick. I loosened, un-screwed, clamped and bowed boards to finally get it constructed, although i am pretty sure it will need some metal reinforcing angles eventually. I won't be buying another one, but i will build my own, as i am capable of measuring and cutting wood accurately.

Our Trug is for tomatoes and veggies. We just got it, but so far, it looks like the answer to back pain and critter invasions. It was easy to assemble, and easy to move around.

          Comments about Vegtrug™ Patio Garden:

This was not as difficult to assemble as other reviews had led me to believe. I watched the video, but never opened the manual.

After assembly, I filled it up with the recommended ratio of soils and mediums. The lettuce and spinach seeds have grown well enough, but there's no sign of the tomato, basil, pepper or celery that I put in there. I have put carrot seeds into the center, but have been using the sides to hold potted seedlings until they are ready to go into the garden. Since the seeds never grew, I will be trying my luck with potted tomato and pepper plants later on.

Overall, I do like how sturdy it seems. The frame fits very nicely, even though I forgot to screw it in before filling with soil. It has endured a couple of thunderstorms, and the seedlings I forgot to bring in one night were fine in the morning. That bug net really keeps things out- including water. So you do have to open up the net to water your plants.

              Comments about Vegtrug™ Patio Garden:

The VegTrug is made of high quality components. My husband and I assembled it in about an hour and a half. I recommend viewing the video before beginning assembly. The most important tip we took away from the video is to leave everything loose until you've got all the parts connected.
We're looking forward to a great harvest!
