Description

  • Watch: How the Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler Works
  • Produce high quality compost quickly and efficiently
  • Let one bin "cook" while you add fresh materials to the other side
  • Two bins rotate separately; each bin holds approximately 3 cubic feet

Batch composting is the fastest and most efficient way to produce high quality compost, and this dual bin tumbler makes it easy. Fill one side with kitchen scraps and yard waste, then stop adding materials and let it "cook," turning it every few days to speed up the decomposition process. In the meantime, add new scraps to the other side. When the first batch of compost is finished, remove it and repeat the process, letting the other side cook.

I recently got this dual composter as recommended by a friend who loves hers. It was easy to assemble and I am using it. Don't know how fast it works but easy to use and the video on the garden supply site was a great help to me as a beginner.

I just got it but it was easy to set up and it was recommended by a friend who has used hers over a year and loves it. So I can't address how fast it works but I am using it now and think it's great.

      Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

I bought this for my 89 year old Mother who has composted her kitchen waste for practically all of those 89 years. This is "high tech" for her, and just what she wanted. It arrived quickly, was easy to set up (having read the reviews about paying attention to the process) and seems to be working well for her so far. Having the doors at waist height is good, and it looks like it will be easy to empty. The verdict is still out on the finished compost product since we just set it up this month.
Her only problem so far has been that the sliding door is a bit sticky and when the temperature is below freezing it freezes shut. We can't blame the product for that though, we'll take that up with Mother Nature.

Planning to start first vegetable garden this spring. The axel was missing, but one call to Gardener's Supply and a very friendly lady apologized and sent the missing part at no charge or shipping cost. I found it easy to assemble, but it did require two persons to attach the black tumblers to the frame. Just starting my first batch of compost, so no issues with odor yet and no opinion on the quality and size of the mulch.

      Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

This composter was very easy to put assemble single handed. I like that there are two separate compartments, one for the compost that's in its finishing stage and one for the new compost. I do wish the bins were larger and held more compost. I've had this for a month now and one side is full and in the finishing stage, the other side is half full. I also like the ease of the spin of the bins. There is way more odor from this composter than from my previous unit. I had to move it way behind the garage and I can still smell it. The price was great though.

Easy assembly except make sure that you are putting the legs together so that the base is the widest. I needed to put lubricant on the sliding door for easy opening and closing when putting materials in the bin. I love that it doesn't take up much room and is off of the ground. Easy. It will be interesting to see how easy it is to remove the compost once it is ready!

          Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

This is our second compost tumbler and our first is only a single drum. That means there is a point in which we just stop composting and let it cook. This concept is much better and this one, with it's smaller size will be focused on reducing garbage waste with vegetable kitchen scraps going into the system. Our hope with the side by side bins, is that we are constantly composting.

          A few snags

          Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

I actually thought the set up and directions were fine - but it turned out that the pieces actually didn't fit together well - so I had to get a replacement pipe sent. Seems that other people are complaining about the doors and I have the same complaint - just contacted CS to see about getting a replacement (strangely the second door works just fine so I'm not sure why there's an issue).

I generally prefer non tumbling composted, but I live in Boston and we have a lot of lead in our soil. I save the tumbler for garden and kitchen scraps (and feed the compost to my raised beds), and then have an on-the-ground composter for landscape waste. Any - probably too much info - but if you're looking for a composter, I think that non tumblers are best.

I use this for small batches that compost quickly in the Florida heat mixing kitchen scraps and composted leaves. then I add to my raised beds as a topsoil layer when planting.

It is less cumbersome for Seniors like me than larger piles that need turning with a pitchfork.

                Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

I've only had this two weeks, but I like the two-batch concept, ease of use, and fairly sturdy build. What I did not like was the hour I spent assembling it. Two phone calls to Gardner's customer service, and it was done, but why couldn't the instructions have indicated which way the legs fit together?? The pieces are even stamped aa, bb, etc., but only on one end, so it's actually not obvious how they attach. Turns out you can put it together at least three ways which are wrong! Customer Service says they're used to these calls, but they'd save their time (money) and have less frustrated customers if there were simply better instructions.
Once assembled, I had major trouble with one of the two doors working very, very hard. (I notice there's another review mentioning this problem.) Since I knew how wonderful Gardner's customer service is, I called them back about the door, and they sent me another one, which works fine.
So--good product and good customer service, but they need to revise the instructions.
