Description

  • Decorative house attracts pollinating mason bees
  • Made from long-lasting bamboo
  • Mason bees are small, non-stinging beneficial insects

Boost your garden's productivity by providing a happy home for peaceful, non-stinging Mason bees. Slightly smaller than honeybees, mason bees are incredible pollinators. Each one visits as many as 1000 blooms per day — 20 times as many as a honeybee! Hang this natural bamboo house against a tree or wall where it will get morning sun and attract mason bees. Female bees fill the bamboo tubes with their eggs, and nectar and pollen for the young to eat.

This is a great product for the naturalist who wants to attract native bees but does not want to make their own house. all that is neede for the real enthusiast is a package or tube liners.

            Comments about Mason Bee House:

The nesting box comes ready to hang - easy. What is missing for someone who has never dealt with Mason Orchard Bees is more information on the correct timing for hanging, winter storage, spring placement, etc. Knowing the cycle for these bees is important for success with them.

                  Comments about Mason Bee House:

I bought my first two of these quite a while ago, perhaps 5-6 years. It took a year or two for the bees to find it, but I now have a total of 6 nest blocks or so, and am almost overrun with bees (not a bad problem). They've lasted through harsh winters and hot summers, and still look good. The only problem is that they can't be cleaned, and for the health of the bees they should be, or they should be replaced periodically. Once the bees are finished nesting (early June or so) cover it with some screening or cheesecloth to keep predator wasps out.

This is a great product. The wasps don't like it because they are not interconnected. Already have Masons in it.

I was very excited to use this item, but it disintegrated in less than two years' time - before any mason bees decided to move into it. People should take note of the "lasts one to two years" statement in the product description. The woven shell will eventually come apart with the rain and the sun, causing the entire product to fall apart. I am not happy with it at all.
