We have a driveway that goes straight up and we have to shovel to get out no matter how little the snow. Our driveway ends in a very large apron before one goes into the garage-we have a lot to shovel and are both in our 70's.If we have it plowed, they never get down to the blacktop and so we do it ourselves-along with a path around the backyard for the oil company. This shovel works well -as long as the snow is not too wet or deep - up to about 8". It makes the job so much easier. This was the perfect year to get this piece of equipment!!!

Product is lightweight, similar to a vaccum cleaner. It saved my back and took less energy to clear the drive than with the old standard shovel.

This was a gift for my DIY husband, who was initially quite skeptical. After a trial run, he agreed that it would be great to use in smaller areas around the house that are inaceessible with the tractor-driven plow/blower.

    Comments about Power Shovel:

My husband easily assembled this and used it immediately. It doesn't perform on heavy wet snow, which we got last week. However, it's great on dry snow, which we usually get. It did freeze up when left in the garage when the temps dropped below zero, so it is now stored in the mud room. All in all, it's great. I haven't used it, but my husband really likes it--and he's picky.

    Rugged Back-saving Winter Tool

    Comments about Power Shovel:

This tool is terrific for smooth-surfaced areas that can be reached by a power-cord. Handled even 6 inches of super heavy wet Utah snow. Superb with dryer snow. Not self-propelled, so requires some strength to push it forward. Wind, cars, and pavement configurations can require a little planning on how to best clear snow since it only throws snow forward. Fun to use and avoids LIFTING motion, saving on back strain. Fairly rugged plastic construction of auger & motor housing withstood rough treatment very well. Should last for years. No assembly required.

I use this to clear my back patio that I am unable to reach with a snow blower. I clear a small path for my Shih Tsu so she can go out and do her business that she would be unable to do if there was no shovelled area in the deep snow we have where I live.

    Comments about Power Shovel:

We live in the great lakes where we are prone to lake effect with large amounts of snow so I was a little skeptical when my husband asked for this as a christmas gift. But after he used it once, we were convinced it could do the job. He has back problems and this alleviates alot of pain because there is no lifting.

    Comments about Power Shovel:

The picture shows a woman. But it is too heavy for me. Today was our first real snow = 8 inches. I had to lift. I can't have my drive plowed because it is gravel. Once I had it plowed. That spring I had to throw all the gravel pebbles back into the driveway before I could safely mow. I think my Toro is as hard work as hand shoveling - too heavy for me at age 84.

    A city product
By Joan the shepherdessVerified Purchaser from Rangeley, Maine on 12/26/2008
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Power Shovel:

I found the blower easy to use , but had difficulty getting the snow to blow anywhere but straight ahead. It works very well with fairly light snow. It is helpful to have an extremely flat surface to work on(pavement would be fine). It is tricky on an enclosed deck as the snow can build up and it gets hard to blow over.

I think this would be a great tool for suburban/urban use in a climate that gets moderate snow.Unfortunately, I live in an more extreme climate and have very uneven ground, and allowed slush to freeze under the snow I was trying to blow away.

    Great for Snow Drifts!
By JeffVerified Purchaser from Arpin, WI on 12/15/2008
    Pros:
Easy to use, Good Value, High Quality
    Cons:
    A little Heavy
    Best Uses:
Close to house, Hard to reach places
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Power Shovel:

We live in rural farmland with no wind breaks, so we get a lot of snow drifts. My tractor-mounted snow thrower is good for our driveway, but drifts next to the house have always been hard on the back to shovel out. The Power Shovel works great. It is a little on the heavy side to lift to the top of the drift, but it is light compared to the weight of a shovel full of snow. It throws the snow nearly as far as my tractor-mounted snow thrower. The Power Shovel also works great around our holding tanks, which has also been a difficult area to shovel. I am able to easily clear around the tanks without piling up a mountain of snow behind them. A note on the weight: if you are not lifting the shovel to clear drifts, the weight is hardly noticeable. The Power Shovel slides easily along the ground to clear snow to a depth of six inches or even a little deeper.

TORO offers quality products. This shovel is heavier than I expected. It would not work well with heavy wet snow. I plan to return this item. [...]
