(based on 87 ratings)
Located in: Yard & Landscaping, Solar Lights, Solar Spotlights

Our Area Solar Lights are not only brighter than any other solar lights on the market, they also outshine many low-voltage lights. Yet high light output is just part of the story. These lights are superior in every way to the one-season lights you see elsewhere. The anodized aluminum housing is seamless and weather-tight, and won’t crack like plastic casing. The circuitry is soldered by hand, and every unit is tested before it leaves the factory. We’ve also fitted them with new high-capacity batteries that keep them shining even after several cloudy days.

  • Area Solar Light has a wider angle of coverage than spotlights
  • May be mounted on the lawn, on a deck or on a wall
  • The solar panel mounts separately so it can be positioned for optimal solar exposure — up to 15 feet away
  • Lights turn on automatically at dusk, and run up to 12 hours on a full day's charge
  • 16 LEDs and wider angle
  • LEDs never need replacing
  • Environmentally friendly, long-life NiMH batteries

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I placed the lights out in my front yard as there is very little light there. To my surprise the lights have lit up the area more than I had anticipated. My daughter fear arriving home at night as her front door area is very dark. I installed one your lights in front of the door yesterday. Last night she called and told me how much she liked the light as it allowed her to enter her house without fear. She has requested I purchase several additional lights for her walkway. The lights are bright, spread a wide path of light, and are a sharp white light.

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I use these lights for lighting up the waterfall on my pool as well as the tall cast iron Egret birds in the garden. I've used them for 3 years and just purchased several more. I've only had one get moisture inside the glass and that's out of 14 lights. I have a large backyard and I especially love the lights in that part of the yard that's dark. I have huge Birch trees and one on each side lights them all the way to the top. I love them.

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

Attempting to locate a solar light that is reasonably priced, durable, and also provides signicant illumination is difficult. After having purchased from other sources, solar lights that either failed after the first day or provided minimal illumination and did not justify their cost, I reluctantly decided to invest in this solar light (as a desperate act). Having now had this unit operating for almost a month, to illuminate in my yard, a water fall and pond (~ 30 sq ft area) , I decided to register my experience. "You get what you pay for' and this saying is applicable to this solar light. I am very satified with the quality of the unit's construction (metal),the area of illumination, and the night time landscape it has created.

Pros:
Easy to install
Cons:
Poor Area Of Illumination
Describe Yourself:
Avid Do-It-Yourselfer
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I'm disappointed. It's not awful, and the quality seems to be pretty good, but for the price and the number of LEDs I thought it would be better. If you had a small enclosed space (10'x10') it might be enough to see where you are going, but when I place it in my backyard and shining up a tree, I can see almost nothing. I aimed it at a large pampas grass bunch and that glowed nicely. But I certainly wouldn't ever use 'spotlight' to describe it. If it was just brighter, I would say it was great. As is, I wouldn't suggest it.

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

Its LED and solar, so I would not expect very bright. But considering price, I would have thought it would be brighter. But it is easy to setup, and it is free to operate. We use it in rural area to mark our driveway entrance, far away from source of electricity, so solar rechargeable is only option. After 8 months through cold of winter it is still working same as day after it was installed. This light is good for illuminating a path.

With full sun charge, stays on all night long.I used this solar light to illuminate a Christmas Decoration. A good product, but for [$], it could be better with more LED lights for brighter light. Bottom Line:

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

These lights have a hideous blue color! If you're expecting a color anything like standard bulbs, look elsewhere. Seems we have a long way to go before solar lighting replaces incandescent. I also purchased 6 of the path lights, big mistake! Pitiful lighting, almost worthless. I will be investing in higher-quality low voltage lighting. Solar needs a few more years before it's acceptable as anything but a way to show your friends that you're "green".

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

We use this solar light for the back of our barn. No longer need a couple of lanterns when going out at night to bring the llamas in. The only problem we have is that if it is really windy the plug doesn't always stay in the solar panel. Electrical tape helps. Our neighbor is an electrician and was VERY surprised how well it lit up. Thanks!

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I bought this spotlight to place on my son's headstone which is located in the rear of the cemetery. There is a beautiful picture of him on the stone and this light softly illuminates his face and name. I have used numerous other spotlights and their light was minimal. This item is well worth the money since it gives illumination even on rainy days.

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

Use this product for "up-lighting" on the palm trees at the front entrance to our townhouse community as well as in the pond area and upper lanai at my home. The neighbors have given the lighting that it produces rave reviews and wanted to know where they could purchase these lights. I have not found any other solar lights that even come close to matching these lights!

Pros:
Area Of Illumination, Attractive Design, Weather Resistant
Best Uses:
Front Yard, Walkway

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I use this light to shine on the front of my house which in turn lights up my pathway. I love how maintenance free it is. The solar piece is in the path of my sprinklers and it still works fine. I have noticed that as the night goes around (around 2-3am) the light dims a little but I don't need it to be super bright then. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

Best solar lite I've found. I use it in my rural area at my front gate for safety when I arrive home after dark and to feel safer when I look out there and can see who is at the gate after dark. I also can keep a check on my 4 dogs at the gate with it. It stays lit a long time. Long after I've gone to bed. Nice product. Wish I could afford more of them. Thank you.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

Mounted 20 feet high on the facade of our house so the light shines down on the backyard patio. Cord is long enough to place solar panel on an adjacent rooftop. Light is perfect for this use. Glow is not very strong, and is the typical "bluish hue" of LEDs--a cool light not a warm glow. It gives the illusion of moonlighting onto the patio below, which we like. Not bright enough for security lighting. Somewhat pricey for what you get, but we're pleased.

This light keeps my front entrance lit all night and I can still see my way out when I go outside before daylight the next morning. I also have one projecting on my driveway so that I do not have to use the electrical lamp post. I expect to recoup the dollars spent quickly by saving on my utility bill. I would not hesitate to purchase another one!

Best solar light I've found so far
By Captain Ron, ArchitectVerified Reviewer from Austin, TX on 10/25/2008
Pros:
Area Of Illumination, Attractive Design, Auto onoff
Cons:
Short 15' cord
Best Uses:
No Elec available
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

Great for landscape locations where no electricity is available. Enchanted by solar energy I bought one of these before calculating what my energy costs are for the 60w bulb at my front door ($10/year if on 12 hours/day). I expect the product will wear out before it pays back the purchase price (10 years). This is a good product, with limitations. The 15' cord is short if you want to illuminate a large shade tree, hard to mount the solar collector out of the shade. This product works great if you want to stick it in the ground or in a potted plant. But the mounting brackets don't readily accommodate mounting it on the side of your house or over an entrance. I jury rigged a mounting bracket to do that. The light level is decent, not bright but the best I have seen in small solar area lights.

There were 8 other pretty positive reviews here a week ago, where did they go?

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I just purchased two of these lights. I purchased 9 of the smaller ones a few years ago. They are all 16 LEDs which are the brightest solar lights you can find. I have also bought them as gifts and others have loved them. The only thing I didn't know is that when you replace the batteries, you should leave off for a few days to extend battery life. One of your phone reps advised me of this.

A quality product with limitations
By CptnRnVerified Reviewer from Austin, TX on 10/14/2008

Cons:
Inflexible Mounting, Short 15' cords
Best Uses:
Back Yard, Front Yard, Gardens, Porch, Security, Walkway
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

It performs better then any other LED solar light that I have tried in the past. Higher illumination levels are still low for most peoples expectations, but sufficient to provide safe area lights or highlight landscaping at night. I am disappointed that the mounting options are to limited to easily attach the solar panel to my roof eave or to attach the light overhead without jury rigging some kind of bracket. This design is solely intended to accomodate mounting in the ground or in a planter where you can stick the pointed posts into soil. It is however a great product given this limitation.

I used this spotlight to highlight plants on a side porch - right by an atrium door. We can see the plants now after dark and the light provides security right at the door itself. The light is a little blueish - I'd prefer a little warmer tone - but overall a very good product.

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

We have a set of stairs around the side of our house that we use all the time. We'd installed a motion-detector light above it, but it's just too high to do the trick. So that staircase was always a scary one to maneuver when we came home after our porch light timer went off (at midnight). I ordered this area light and it has done the trick quite nicely. The only thing I'd improve on it is the span of the beam. I'd like it even better if it were just a foot or two wider on each side, then it would really cover the whole area we're trying to illuminate, without irritating the neighbors with a bright light on all night.

We don't have electricity running to the front yard, so I have to use solar lights to illuminate the front door for security reasons. These lights are much more expensive than what I had already tried from a local store, but they also work much, much better.
In this case, the increased cost was worth it.

Comments about Area Solar Spotlight:

I was searching, for a good while, for a solar light that would project enough light to shine on my flag, from dusk to dawn, that is flying on a 13 foot flagpole in my back yard. I wanted to leave the flag out 24 hours a day during good weather. The light is directed straight up and does a perfect job. The other feature this solar light had that sold me is an off/on switch. When the weather is nasty, and the flag is down, there is no unplugging or removing the light as you simply switch it off. We have had many, many, rainy, cloudy, sunless days since I began using the light and it shines at night even without constant sun. Up to this time, the light has remained waterproof (even thought it is directed straight up). This light is well worth the cost.
