I bought three for my wife as a birthday present. The bulb for one broke off as I screwed it on, being as gentle as I could. The other two fell over in a rain storm two days later, and the bulbs from both broke off. These things are very flimsy, not meant to be outdoors.

I bought three of these. The night I got them I unpacked the first one, tested it, and it worked great! Really pretty! I assembled the other two the next day, but those two didn't work at all! For two days I watched and hoped they would start working. Grrr! Frustration! But wait! Then I remembered there was an OFF/AUTO switch. Duh. Don't forget to turn them ON!

The second thing I realized is that if you are not gentle screwing the globes onto the stick, you can easily break the glue between the "screw-in casing part" (for lack of a better term), and the globe itself. Hard to describe, but if you look close at it you'll see what I mean. It will still work fine, but the globe is no longer secure sitting on top of the stick. It'll be wobbly, and the wind or a squirrel could easily knock it off. So, ladies, if you let your husbands put them together, beware, because men have a tendency to put a little too much muscle into it, bless their helpful, over-torquing, hearts. I re glued mine and all is well.

Really happy now! They look really beautiful at night around the pool.

We saw these or something similar in an outdoor restaurant in California. I looked and looked for some, and finally spotted some in your catalog. I have them by my Koi pond and they are so pretty. I like this very much. The light changes slowly and evenly, giving time to savor all the subtle variations between the three main colors. I have purchased seven of these and have had to replace the included NiCad battery in just about all of them almost immediately. My impression is that these lights sit in storage and the NiCads go flat, or some of them do, such that when customers set up the lights, they sometimes only work for a few days. I ordered three of these several months ago. Two of them are still working fine, but one started flickering, and then refused to light up at all. I investigated, and found that the top of the bulb had become detached from the filament part of the bulb. I looked at the other two, and I have to say that the bonding between the two parts of the bulb could be done more carefully. My wife likes the colors, so I ordered a replacement. While it was on order, I tried pushing the top part of the bulb down on the broken one, and now it works most of the time, but flickers a bit. I wouldn't call this a permanent solution, though, since a pet bumping into the stake might shake the top part of the bulb loose.
With the bright sun and nearly cloudless skies of NM, these do stay lit all night. The amount of light is decorative - these are not floodlights meant to light up a yard.

I have them in my front landscaping and use them for the effect, not to light a path, so wattage doesn't matter to me. The color changes are beautiful, so much so, that I moved them all into a group so I can see them from my living room window! Only issue - do not leave them out during the winter - they'll break. I learned the hard way. Also, there doesn't appear to be any way to change the LED and/or get a new one. Overall, great lights for color and effect.

I do find that the construction is fragile. You have to be careful when attaching globe to stem. I did have one that did not work as well as others. I called toll free number and company e-mailed me a postage free label to ship it back and in the meantime send me a replacement a no charge. I've only had the solar light up for about a month. It did well at first, and then the light sort of flickered. I checked and the one wire was lose so I had it soldered back on. I ordered two new lights to replace two that I bought last year. Without my teen sons, I think the lights would have lasted several years, but if the clear globe on the light is bumped (not even hit hard), it detaches from the "stem" and despite my best efforts, can't be fixed. When it works it's good but you never know what you'll get. The globe creates a wonderful effect but is very delicate and you must use great care in putting it on the stake as the socket is very weak.
Changing batteries is also a challenge as the screws that must be removed are tiny and difficult to get off.
Recommend but with qualifications: don't toss out your return form until you're sure the globe is working properly!

I really like my Northern Lights sphere lights. I have 4. The globes are very delicate, but the one I have that broke was knocked over by one of my cats. It still operates after 2 years. Another one broke at the neck, but my husband was able to repair it. One that I've had for 3 years still works, but it needs a new battery. All of mine have held up well, enduring every kind of weather, including snow and high winds. They look beautiful under a cap of snow! If they are carefull handled , carefully placed, and in full sun, they can't be beat.

The spheres change colors frequently for a fun light show. If I could change anything, I'd slow the changing down a little, but they make a fun accent with the garden. The sphere is really cool and the way the colors change is awesome, but that's really all the good stuff I can say about it. I followed the instructions and charged it in the "off" position for two sunny days, and for the first two days after that, it worked great. Then the charge started lasting less and less time. Two weeks later, it stays lit for only 2-3 hours, and flickers most of the time. The glass sphere also cracked, which is weird because it hasn't fallen or gotten knocked into, so it must have cracked from the cold (I live in Atlanta, so it's not like it's that cold). All in all, I'm very disappointed in this product. It's also much smaller than it seems in the picture.

These lights were a whimsical purchase. The idea of solar-powered color changing globes was too good to miss trying. We live in a snowy, cold part of northern New York, and this item was probably not a good choice for our climate, though nothing in the listing suggested a problem. They worked for one day, then the batteries would not re-charge, even with snow brushed off, and several bulb inserts broke. A very appealing idea, but it just didn't work well here. We were not careless with the units.

I have 6 of these to illuminate my planters in the backyard. They are absolutely gorgeous, easy to use, and light up the backyard in beautiful colors. The only reason why I give them 4 out of 5 is that the sphere on 2 of them had fallen off, not allowing the sphere to properly screw back on the bulb pole. Fortunately my glue gun easily fixed the problem, adhering the ball back onto the light pole.

These globes are pretty, but trouble. One of our three didn't work because the internal battery holder was broken in the box. The glass globes are incredibly fragile; as far as we can tell one of them shattered simply by being pushed against another by the sprinkler system.

Product is great to look at. However, unless there is a TON of daily sunlight (I do have them placed in an area to receive and have changed the batteries), be prepared to see them "flicker" during the night vs. blend from one color to another smoothly. Kind of disappointing actually. The solar panels really need to be ramped up to absorb more sunlight.

These were easy to put together. I did have to dig a hole for each one because our sandy soil was too dense to just push them into the ground, but they stayed in place afterward. They started lighting up the first night after I installed them, even though the manual said it would take 2 days. They light up even after cloudy days. The picture in the catalog was accurate. In my opinion, these are designed for creating spots of color in the garden, not for area illumination. I have not observed any damage due to weather after a few weeks.

I have purchased several of these over the years - the oldest one is probably about 5 years old and has been out in the weather year round. All I've had to do is replace the battery (rechargeable NiCad) one time. These solar spheres are so magical that I call them my fairy lights. I have three of this design in my gardens. Anyone who has seen them glowing in the darkness has asked about them so now I have started to give them as gifts. The receipients seem to mention the spheres each time they see me. When mine arrived, it said it would need a day or two to charge from the sun. The local weather report predicted a storm, so I opened the box and set the light in my closet for safekeeping, planning to put it out after the storm passed. It lit up as soon as I put it in the closet. After at least two days in the dark box, it was ready to go! I put it out the next day and it has worked great ever since. My neighbor's 8-year-old grandson Gizane remarked. "It's beautiful! And that is a word I don't use very often!" I agree. I plan to buy one for my mother for her birthday.

Battery change is a challenging operation. The rechargeable batteries eventually wear out (2-3 years) and the enclosures and wiring are sealed with adhesive, requiring delicate and judicious prying to separate.

These glowing orbs are so cool! My daughter gave me 3 of them a year ago and we kept them up all year-round and even in the dead of winter they were doing their glowing thing every night! They don't need much sun at all to keep them going.

I was looking for a solar light to provide ambiance in the back yard. These do the trick with a nice variety of changing colors. I would like them more if they were lower to the ground. These are very beautiful and stay lit up the entire night on a charge. Make sure to place them in an area where they get lots of daylight, otherwise they will not light up in the evening. I purchased a number of these as a gift for my mother in August 2008 and she promptly set them up throughout her backyard/garden. She loves them and watches them every chance she gets. She is always receiving compliments on how beautiful they are. During the peak of summer, the globes will glow until the early morning hours. Also, the globes are very durable. They remained out all winter and are still in very good condition. They are great for gifts. The only con that I can identify is that you need to be careful where you place them. If there is even a moderate amount of light from indoors or from flood lights, they will either not glow or will only glow dimly. Great product!

I have about ten different kinds of colored/blinking solar lights, and these are among my favorite. I gave one to my mom for Mother's Day, and she loves it as much as I do. It reminds me of the "static ball" (the one that made my hair stand up when I touched the ball) in my high school science class. The colors are beautiful and numerous, not the usual three or four. Very bright addition to any garden, especially when you're having a lot of rainy days!

This was easy to put together, but be careful screwing on the globe, you could easily strip the threads. Had it out one sunny day and the light show was on that night! Goes through several color changes and holds each one about two seconds. Comes on at dusk and has been on as long as I've ever stayed up. The only drawback--The globe came unglued and I had to get some silicone glue to fix it but was pretty easy to do. I love lights so this is great for me. It's like a mini fireworks display in a glass ball. I have one in the front yard and one out back, I wouldn't see the need for "groups" of them.
