Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

I bought several strings of these lights to outline our rather large flower and vegetable garden, where I spend a lot of time working and relaxing. The lights come on during my favorite part of the day, dusk(or is it night?. They were expensive but perform well, staying on for quite a good while. The solar cell is flexible so you can aim it for maximum sun exposure. I affixed mine easily to some of the structures I've made for the garden area.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

Bought three strands for a medium sized liquid amber tree in backyard garden setting. When first installed didn't care for bc the twinkle settings were schizophrenic like in their timing. Followed instructions and have them set just to on and absolutely love them. Had wanted them to twinkle but personally I would not use these for that purpose. The size and very high quality, however, somehow give them a similar effect when just on on setting. In the end, I LOVE these lights and do highly recommend. Solar powers easily and fully. Will make you smile!

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

This purchase is my second. I love the lights just wish they weren't so expensive. I plan to buy a string a year as long as they are available. I have strung them in a tree next to the hot tub. They are so pretty and don't add much light.
I live in very wet Western Oregon and left the string up all winter-it is working just fine.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

We primary use these lights when we go camping and around the holidays. They are really easy to set up, charge quickly and stay lit all night. The various patterns that the lights blink in are great, especially for dance parties and camping when it is difficult to find your way back to the campsite. If you set them to be on constantly, they create enough light to see and work by allowing us to save our lanterns and flashlights for more important ventures and activities.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

After reading some of the reviews I was concerned about the cost/benefit of these lights. I love that they are solar and couldn't be easier to use and set-up. A month ago I put them on a ramada that covers the walkway to my front door. They provide a soft, welcoming light and are truly lovely. They come on each evening without fail and last until dawn. I bought a similar set from a local hardware store for $20. They seem a little less hardy in quality, and are much shorter in length. So far I'm very happy with both.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

We are delighted with these solar lights. The illumination is amazing; the lights look like brilliant stars. It doesn't take much sun to charge them for the entire night. In fact, there hasn't been a night since we purchased them last month when they haven't been lit all night. We plan to buy more of them. Wish they weren't so expensive, or would at least go on sale. Price is the only downside that we've encountered. We had researched these lights and did not find anything comparable.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

The jury is still out about the lights. I was amazed they worked but they have three settings and two are blinking and awful. It sometimes is difficult to get them to not blink, and I am wondering if it damaged due to weather. I am intending to drape them over an arch and then vines to grow on top of them for a wedding. We will see.

I installed them inside the rim of the pergola so that it didn't look like I forgot to un-decorate after the holidays. Really pretty and delicate lighting. I find myself standing around waiting for the sun to go down now :) They charge well even on overcast days. For those who threw out the instructions and don't like the flashing: there are 7 different sequences (modes). Click to 'Auto' then let the lights cycle and when you get to steady on, click the mode switch.

Unfortunately, I am reluctant to hang these lights on my front stoop, because, in my urban setting, my covetous neighbors might well make off with them. So ... they twinkle merrily away in my back garden, reliably charging each day and reliably twinkling through each night. In a samll concession to the passing of the Holiday season, I may well switch them to "solid" (rather than twinkling) and just enjoy the glow year-round. I am very pleased.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

Although I love the solar lights, they are very expensive and one string does not cover a large area. I have mine over a garden arbor. I tried them on a small tree, but I would need more strings than I choose to buy (due to the expense)! They are magical when lit, but the illumination fades quickly if the sun has not powered them enough, and in New England we are getting our share of cloudy days!

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

We have had two strings - a blue and a red and green - up in a year-round Christmas tree - for more that 2 years. They finally had a problem when we had a terrific wind storm and some of the strings were stretched between limbs that moved more than the slack we left in the strings. We had to reconnect some of the torn strings - but they work perfectly again. This time we put them inside our carport - panels outside! We love them.

These lights are awful and have a bluish, gray tint to them when lit. They really look depressing!!! Nothing like the beautiful white, bright lights twinkling in the season's breath! After all, it's only for a brief moment in time that we have this specialness once a year!!

Cons:
Pricey

Back Yard, Front Yard, Gardens
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

This is the second string that I have purchased. They are scalloped across my backyard fence and I love the way they look. The older string stays on only until midnight (perhaps, it doesn't get full sun to recharge). The new string stays on until dawn. Yes, the bulbs have a blue-ish tint as opposed to white, but it doesn't bother me. I don't have to worry about eletrical connections, etc. If you can get past the price, these are great lights.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

These lights were used on an arbor in my garden for my daughter's late evening wedding. We did not have electricity in the area and the solar power was perfect. The color is a soft blue white not white white and was just what we wanted. If you are looking for a bright white light, this is not it. There are lots of options for setting how the lights work. They can be steady or several different types of blinking. It was easy to choose the desired setting.

Careful handling them. That's when I noticed the lights would short out. They look great on the arbor and in the garden. The illumination is a pretty one, but do not expect one strand to light up an area for safe walking up & down stairs.
I still enjoy them, but have replaced some of them and that has been costly.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

I used them to light the top of an umbrella we have on our pool deck. I removed the ball that sits on top and screwed the solar collector on in its place. I did not want to see a cord running across the deck so solar was the answer. These lights put off a subtle glow, like star light. The one drawback is they do have that blueish tinge that you see from any LED. All and all I am happy with the look.

By T. BeardVerified Purchaser from Savannah, GA on 5/17/2009
Pros:
Charges Great, Easy to use, Weather Resistant
Best Uses:
Front Yard
Describe Yourself:
Casual Do-It-Yourselfer

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

The first set of lights we purchased worked so well that we purchased 2 addt'l sets. The solar charges work fantastic. We like the flexibility of choosing different lighting patterns. We put these out for a party and our guests remarked on how pretty they were and then were pleasantly surprised to find out they are solar. We've had a ton of rain since installing the lights and they've held up just fine. It would be nice if there were more lights on a string. The picture in the catalog is a bit misleading - in fact, it would be helpful to know just how many lights are on the trellis in the photo. If you want to highlight a large area, you will probably need to purchase more lighting strings than you anticipate. However, since the lights are solar, they are well worth it. A nice accent to anyone's yard.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

We purchased these to decorate a tree far from the house last year. The first set worked for one day. Gardner's Supply as usual, replaced them [...] The next set worked last season, but wouldn't work this year. Two new sets purchased this year worked, BUTthe light they provide is described by my family as a crazy, psychotic, migraine inducing blinking. Someone needs to work on these and make them more palatable. It is still a worthwhile idea. Keep trying, GS!

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

I put three strings on a blue spruce I planted in the back yard. Love how robust they are and they gather a charge very well. They don't last all night, but last well past 11pm in winter. There is ample length of cord from the last light to the solar charger so you can easily put multiple strings on one tree and you can easily locate the solar charger at the optimal location. Pricey product, but so far I am happy. Hope that they last.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

These lights went on our back deck to provide just enough light to be social. The different "paces" they can go thru are great, mostly we have them on "steady." We love how tiny the LEDs are and the solar power source was the big seller for us. 36' sounds like a lot but when wrapping or draping it gets used up faster than one might think: we bought 2 strands and could see buying more. The price is a bit high, but we have a feeling the long life will justify the price.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

I installed my string along a wall using screw-eyes and tie-wraps about seven feet above the sitting area of my covered porch. The LEDs are quite bright for their size and create a soft glow that allows us to see our chairs and decking on the darkest nights here in Washington state. Besides softly lighting our porch, half of my Christmas lighting is already done... in August! Now I'm trying to figure out where I can install another string of these lights because I think they're cool, even to an old retired guy like myself (maybe outline the garage...).

By AnyaVerified Reviewer from Mount Vernon, WA on 7/14/2008
Pros:
Attractive Design, Easy To Install, Great Illumination
Bottom Line:

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

I decided to use these as path lights, just laid the string of lights down on the ground. I kept the alternating 4 settings (steady glow, then flashing lights, then fast flashing lights, then a sequential ripple up and down the entire string of lights). Unexpected side benefit: the deer get spooked and leave my garden alone. Unexpected side liability: when your husband cuts the string in half with the weed whacker, the lights don't work anymore, and the deer come back and chow down with relish. Oh well....

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

The product is wonderful so far. Granted it is not for everyone and has yet to stand the test of time. It does, however, suit our taste and expectations.

Comments about Solar-Powered String Lights:

Solar collector installs easily with two screws (or a stake for the ground, which I didn't use) and just throw the strings of bulbs wherever (they're crisscrossed on my greenhouse). Works the first night and is a joy to see. I set it to always on, but there are other choices for blinking, slower on-off in several patterns, etc.
