The colour changing lights are mesmerizing. It is disappointing when the lights are dimmed out in cold and dark winter nights. I haven't seen anything like it before. Also, the round shape makes it impossible for birds to perch on and defecate on.

The sphere is really cool and the way the colors change is awesome, but that's really all the good stuff I can say about it. I followed the instructions and charged it in the "off" position for two sunny days, and for the first two days after that, it worked great. Then the charge started lasting less and less time. Two weeks later, it stays lit for only 2-3 hours, and flickers most of the time. The glass sphere also cracked, which is weird because it hasn't fallen or gotten knocked into, so it must have cracked from the cold (I live in Atlanta, so it's not like it's that cold). All in all, I'm very disappointed in this product. It's also much smaller than it seems in the picture.

These lights were a whimsical purchase. The idea of solar-powered color changing globes was too good to miss trying. We live in a snowy, cold part of northern New York, and this item was probably not a good choice for our climate, though nothing in the listing suggested a problem. They worked for one day, then the batteries would not re-charge, even with snow brushed off, and several bulb inserts broke. A very appealing idea, but it just didn't work well here. We were not careless with the units.

I have 6 of these to illuminate my planters in the backyard. They are absolutely gorgeous, easy to use, and light up the backyard in beautiful colors. The only reason why I give them 4 out of 5 is that the sphere on 2 of them had fallen off, not allowing the sphere to properly screw back on the bulb pole. Fortunately my glue gun easily fixed the problem, adhering the ball back onto the light pole.

These globes are pretty, but trouble. One of our three didn't work because the internal battery holder was broken in the box. The glass globes are incredibly fragile; as far as we can tell one of them shattered simply by being pushed against another by the sprinkler system.

However, unless there is a TON of daily sunlight (I do have them placed in an area to receive and have changed the batteries), be prepared to see them "flicker" during the night vs. blend from one color to another smoothly. These were easy to put together. I did have to dig a hole for each one because our sandy soil was too dense to just push them into the ground, but they stayed in place afterward. They started lighting up the first night after I installed them, even though the manual said it would take 2 days. They light up even after cloudy days. The picture in the catalog was accurate. In my opinion, these are designed for creating spots of color in the garden, not for area illumination. I have not observed any damage due to weather after a few weeks.

These solar spheres are so magical that I call them my fairy lights. I have three of this design in my gardens. When mine arrived, it said it would need a day or two to charge from the sun. The local weather report predicted a storm, so I opened the box and set the light in my closet for safekeeping, planning to put it out after the storm passed. It lit up as soon as I put it in the closet. After at least two days in the dark box, it was ready to go! I put it out the next day and it has worked great ever since. My neighbor's 8-year-old grandson Gizane remarked. "It's beautiful! And that is a word I don't use very often!" I agree. I plan to buy one for my mother for her birthday.

These are very beautiful and stay lit up the entire night on a charge. Make sure to place them in an area where they get lots of daylight, otherwise they will not light up in the evening. I purchased a number of these as a gift for my mother in August 2008 and she promptly set them up throughout her backyard/garden. She loves them and watches them every chance she gets. She is always receiving compliments on how beautiful they are. During the peak of summer, the globes will glow until the early morning hours. Also, the globes are very durable. They remained out all winter and are still in very good condition. They are great for gifts. The only con that I can identify is that you need to be careful where you place them. If there is even a moderate amount of light from indoors or from flood lights, they will either not glow or will only glow dimly. Great product!

I have about ten different kinds of colored/blinking solar lights, and these are among my favorite. I gave one to my mom for Mother's Day, and she loves it as much as I do. It reminds me of the "static ball" (the one that made my hair stand up when I touched the ball) in my high school science class. The colors are beautiful and numerous, not the usual three or four. This was easy to put together, but be careful screwing on the globe, you could easily strip the threads. Had it out one sunny day and the light show was on that night! Goes through several color changes and holds each one about two seconds. Comes on at dusk and has been on as long as I've ever stayed up. The only drawback--The globe came unglued and I had to get some silicone glue to fix it but was pretty easy to do. I love lights so this is great for me. I ordered 8 N.L.S.s, they arrived today around 1pm, and were in the ground within a 1/2-hr. Though instructions said 2 days for battery charge, just after 9 pm the light show began! Every single one works just fine...whether they'll last through the night...? But I am VERY PLEASED with this purchase. How cool! I think the size is just fine, and for those concerned about height(too tall), just push it in further.
One thing I thought about after they were already in the ground was that it might be prudent to glue the spike tip onto the lower metal stake-shaft, eliminating any possibility of it coming off when extracting it from the ground. Yes, the globes are fragile, so just take care when screwing them onto the upper stake-shaft: tight but not forced further than the threads allow...

If these have any longevity to them, they are worth the price. Be creative and have fun you guys...little things like this can bring a lot of little joys

I can't wait for the Waterbury Solar Fountain to arrive(less than 48hrs) which will be the ceneterpiece for this little 15'x15' flower garden in the front yard.

Last Christmas I bought some of these for gifts, along with one for myself. I liked them so much, I bought 4 more! They look really cool clustered together. I have them in several pots on the deck. They get a full charge and last well past bedtime. One warning- the spun glass globes are fragile and can shatter.

This light was a disappointment. The solar recharge did not work (even though we have 98% of all possible sunlight here.) The only way we could use it was to simply replace the battery every second or third day, which was a task. We tried several approaches to the problem. We might have been willing to replace batteries, but did not like the hectic pace of the light change anyway. Too bright, too fast. Not relaxing!

I had read some reviews on this product that mentioned some people were suprised by its size, so I wasn't suprised when it arrived (size is stated clearly in the add, also). But this thing is one of the coolest things in my yard now, and the displays it gives off are just awesome. Living in Wis, I had worries about its durability and amount of sun it would receive but no problems so far. If putting in your front yard, I'd make sure its secure as it wouldn't surprise me if someone tried to make off with it. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Gave this as a gift but never saw it myself. My mother loves it but when she described the size I was disappointed. I thought it would be a bit bigger, but she says it's about the size that would fit comfortably in the hand, so it's quite small. Plus she'll have to remove it every time the lawn is mown, as small rocks or debris could fly out and break the glass globe. But she adores the colors, thinks it's a great gift, so I guess that's the best I could hope for. However, I've since seen cheaper ones at my local store. I might just buy one for myself.

My Northern Lights are "planted" in amongst decorative grass in large pots on my front porch. Their changing colors are gorgeous at night (and the bulbs strangely attractive during the day). We love them, but would love them even better if they were sturdier. Three of our four lights have broken; the bulb can too be easily pushed down on the stem, breaking the LED and the piece that changes the colors of the light. I finally wrapped duct tape around the base of the bulb so it cannot be pushed down; that appears to be a solution, albeit a not very attractive one. Before broken, they all worked fine (even in winter), but they do require a lot of sunlight to shine more than a few hours. I recommend the lights--but with caveats about their fragility.

Purchased one of these to try. After having for several weeks it has worked well thus far. Seems reasonably durable and the colors are bright and
appealing in our yard. This is strictly decorative and does not put out enough light for illuminating
walkways or anything. Also the effect would be nicer and more pleasing to view if the cycle through the different colors was slower and, the fade more drawn out instead of fairly quick and abrupt as it is.
Other than these points, and whether it proves to be durable and weather resistant over time, these do provide a nice nighttime decorative element to yard or garden. Worth trying if thats what you're looking for.

I bought these as a Christmas gift for my mom. We set them out for several days to charge, but have been disappointed by the only a few hours worth of light emitted from the units (and we have had very sunny days). Also, the globe screws to the top of the unit. After checking it the other day, I noticed that the plastic threads had separated from the globe and will not hold the globe to the unit (I suppose Superglue might fix it). I have been pretty disappointed in these globes (I bought a set of three). Not worth the price

The photo in the catalog lead me to believe the Sphere was larger than what I received. It was very easy to install and was charged quickly but does not stay lit as long as some other solar lights I have in the yard. The color variations are attractive, though, and I am generally glad that I purchased the Sphere. I am considering purchasing a few more to place within my garden but will be careful to ensure that they receive enough sun light to fully recharge.

I LOVE this globe. It is beautiful and the colors are great all night long. I put out 7 in my garden in the spring BUT when I went to move them this fall the globes are just rotting and no longer sit securely on the light. The globes are extremely fragile now and will not survive much longer. All are in similar condition. There is no doubt that they will not last through the year. It is too bad. I would purchase replacement balls if they offered them. For the cost of this item though, it is hard to justify this for less than a year of use. A friend bought one at my recommendation and hers didn't last long at all.
