    Comments about Muck Vac:

the muck vac is a huge improvement over the much smaller muck vac i had because it more easily and efficiently cleans the pond. it works really well, but does require a little bit of strength and coordination to handle the cleaning tube and discharge hose at the same time. it does require alot of water pressure, and sure drinks alot of water in the process, meaning that you have to fill up the pond after cleaning.

    Comments about Muck Vac:

Often when I order something from a catalog I am disappointed, but your Muck Vac was easy to put together and worked like a charm with the insturctions you included. The only thing that would make it better would be to have a longer discharge hose. It is of such quality that I think it will last a long time.

    expected better!
even with high water pressure any particle larger than algae or sand quickley clogs the brush and tubes.
works well on smooth and flat areas but needs repeated passes on any bumps or wrinkles.
disappointed that even decayed leaf bits presented a problem.
found a lower priced model that dose the job plus other debris.
not happy with the preformance considering the price paid.

    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Muck Vac:

This is a great product to clean mid-size to small ponds. It worked great to clean the deposits that foul the water. Take note: this item requires high water pressure to work effectively. We had to change to the largest water hose available in order to get enough pressure. It will not work if your home outdoor water pressure isn't at the suggested rate! One slight con: the discharge hose is a little short. In order to pump the discharge well away from the ponds, we had to add on additional hose -- not too difficult, but it's worth mentioning.
This product sure works great for us where we volunteer at our botanical gardens and at home. It's definitely much easier than putting on the boots and wading in!

    Describe Yourself:
    Midrange Shopper
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Muck Vac:

I really couldn't be happier with the performance. If you need it to remove muck from your pond, it certainly works as advertised. I would steer away from trying to suck up leaves due to the size of the tube creating the vacuum. Also, make sure that you have good water pressure. Several of the other reviews claimed that the suction was not all that good, but I have not found this to be true and relate it to the water pressure. The down side is the length of the discharge hose. That is the only thing standing in the way of this product getting five stars.

    Beware the 50psi Requirement
By MikeVerified Purchaser from Burke, VA on 6/20/2010
    Pros:
    Useful tool
    Cons:
    Too low psi less useful
    Best Uses:
    Draining ponds pools
    Describe Yourself:
    Midrange Shopper

    Comments about Muck Vac:

If you don't have the required 50 psi you have to "prime" it, which means getting the exhaust end of the hose lower than the level of the pond; in my case difficult to do since the ponds are lower than the ground level. The muck rake was only of partial usefulness.

It did do the job but I had to have my husband use it because I couldn't get it to do anything. He took the brush off the end and was able to suction up a lot of muck but it took a while because you have to keep stopping and clean it. It cloggs a lot.

    so so
By turtle ladyVerified Purchaser from SoCal on 6/7/2010
    Pros:
    Does get the muck out
    Cons:
Awkward to use, Remove too much water
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Muck Vac:

It does take out a lot of pond water with the muck, so to avoid messing with the balance too much I'm not doing the whole pond at once. I stop when the water gets down a few inches and wait a week before using it again. I found it very awkward to use because the pole is also the outflow. I saw it for half what I paid somewhere else. :(

Used the Muc-Vac to clean my Koi ponds. Vacuum is fair to good, be patient it takes awhile. I thought the hose should be longer to drain farther away. Finally,I tended to lose the vacuum often and had to keep repositioning the head. Over-all not a bad tool though.

    Comments about Muck Vac:

I just bought a house with an existing Koi pond, that was horribly filthy, and I was worried sick about how I was ever going to get it all cleaned out. I saw the Muck Vac in the catalog, and thought I would try it as it had what I needed in a vacuum, and a brush. This worked better than I ever expected, and very fast as well. I was able to clean the entire pond with this one tool, and it looks wonderful now.

By Georgia GardenerVerified Purchaser from Athens, GA on 9/15/2009

    Best Uses:
    Water pond
    Describe Yourself:
    Midrange Shopper
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Muck Vac:

This product is easy to use and works quite well. However, when the telescoping handle is extended, it is not sturdy and is difficult to maneuver. Also, the brush tends to become dislodged. Because it works on a vaccuum principle, it can only be used in a situation when the head is lower than than the outlet hose, therefore it can only be used in the deep areas and not on the rock areas leading to the pond.

By John loves pondsVerified Purchaser from Bridgman, MI on 9/3/2009
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Muck Vac:

If you are cleaning an ornamental pond, I'm sure the Muck Vac would do a good job. If you are cleaning a fish pond however, I'd say the Muck Vac takes out much too much water in the cleaning process to be valuable---you work hard to get a good balance of ph and other chemicals in the water for healthy fish. This cleaning system gets rid of so much water it seems you'd be almost starting over when the pond bottom got somewhat clean.

    Comments about Muck Vac:

While not difficult to assemble, there are both major and minor malfunctions to consider.

The minor malfunction is that the discharge hose does not discharge dirty water (i.e. water the Muck Vac vacked) if the Vack's head is below the discharge hose's end. If that is the case, clear, clean water from the supply hose is being discharged and the Muck Vac is not vacuuming at all.
This may be an unavoidable problem with siphons generally, but makes working with in-ground ponds virtually impossible as the discharge end is always above the vacuum head.

The major malfunction is that Muck Vac doesn't deliver on its vacuuming promise. Ultimately I had to remove all potted flags and lillies from my ponds and clean them by hand while trying to get the Muck Vack to vack the silt layer over the pea gravel bed in my rubber-lined ponds. Relatively little gravel was sucked, no fish that I saw, and the oxegynating plants in the pond gravel just had to be re-planted. But the Muck Vac also removed very, very little silt; in fact, it did little more than stir up the muck and cloud the water for 24-36 hours.

I have, regretfully, returned the product to Gardeners Supply. I am now looking into purchasing a herd of hungry snails. They like muck, eat it, probably make their own, and continue eating it.

    Comments about Muck Vac:

Bought to use to clean my small backyard pond of the usual leaves, scum, insects, etch. Vacuum cleaning is based on venturi principle of the garden hose waterflow (consult your high school physics book about the venturi principle. Weak at sucking leaves from bottom and can't pull up any sand or dirt.

At a hundred dollars roughly, it just ain't worth the prince.

    Comments about Muck Vac:

I was skeptical after reading some negative reviews, but after using it I was surprised how well it worked. My pond had 7 years of scum built up because I have never emptied it. After about a half an hour all of the muck was removed and surprisingly I only lost about an inch and a half from my pond level (550 gal.). I was able to get suction right from the start but I lost it once, which required lowering the wand to ground level a few times to restore it. For muck it works great, maybe not so if you are trying to remove leaves etc..

    Comments about Muck Vac:

The muck vac is very unwieldy. I might work well for a large pond but not for a smallish area like the bottom of a fountain or a small pond basin. It's hard to manuever. Also, the suction was not very strong even though we have plenty of water pressure. I have a simple siphon tube that worked better. I was disapointed. I didn't get my money's worth from this product.
