Comments about Josée Lilac:
The plant was very small dried out with no leaves when it arrived. There will be no way of knowing if it will survive until next Spring. I have enjoyed many products from Gardener's Supply, but their live plants have much do be desired. I have been very dissapointed with the lilac.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
The Josee lilac was one of the first plants I purchsed to plant around my deck. As a novice gsardener, I did not do a good job of followng the directions for planting. It was planted in late spring. the soil is poor (clay - and nothing was added to it), it gets extrememly wet in the spring, it was planted too close to the deck however it is in a sunny location. The first year it did not bloom, the second year it bloomed once. This year was its 3rd summer. Without heavy pruning it will get well over 6 feet tall. It had heavy blooms twice this year and is starting to bud again, although I don't think there is time for the 3rd bloom to finish before frost (zone 5). I couldn't be happier with the bush and just purchased a second one for the other side of the deck.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I planted the lilac according to instructions in a very sunny location with good soil drainage and watered it as per instructions, however within a month the plant has died. This is the third or forth(?) time I have tried to grow this variety of lilac bush (all from Gardener's Supply Co.) and all have died within a month or so.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I bought Josee Lilac for lasting lilac fragrance[...]Probably 3 or more years until it blooms. If it pans out as advertized it will be worth thr price but too early to tell.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Advertised as hardy to Zone 9. Tried it twice (once in the spring and then a replacement plant in the fall) in Zone 8B and it did not survive. As soon as the temp exceeded 100 (which it does frequently in the higher zones), it died.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Josee Lilac's size and almost all summer long flowers and fragrance make for a lovely combo.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I have another type of Lilac with purple flowers and they are doing really good in my yard. Thought I would try this kind since it is another color. So far so good!

Comments about Josée Lilac:
I was worried about buying a lilac given the extreme heat of summers in South Carolina, but this lilac has performed like a star! It grows in poor sandy soil with no irrigation for 5 weeks in the summer. You don't get better than that. Thanks, Gardener's Supply, for another great product!
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I bought four (yes four, do the math). They all managed to survive the first year but the flowers were not spectacular and the plants didn't grow. The second spring they started out just fine until one day that got somewhat warm (not hot). All the leaves dried off and fell and I was left with 4 plants full of twigs. I don't think they ever recovered from the warm day. They are still in the ground but I suspect they will not come back next spring. HUGE waste of money and time.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
[...] they looked like they were dying when I opened the box...they never recovered and I pulled them out of the ground completely dead less than two weeks later! Total waste of money and they weren't cheap.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I had read that this lilac was tempermental, so I potted it up and set it in my "nursery" area to be sure it rooted well before placing it in the garden. It seems to be thriving now, but we'll see what happens after I put it in the ground in the fall.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I had this lilac variety at a previous home and loved it - beautiful, fragrant blooms and reblooms. Takes hard pruning with no fuss - mine got to over 6 feet tall if I didn't prune.

Comments about Josée Lilac:
[...] It has burned leaves & very dry. So far I have managed to barely keep it alive.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Plant was in great shape [...]. Good size plant with fresh green leaves. It has doubled in size since I planted it. I like the fact that it will only get 4 1/2 feet tall. Great for small areas especially patios. I can't wait for the fragrant flowers to bloom. Something great to look forward to. Thanks for the great plant.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I planted in a space where a hugh tree was to make the area pretty and fill in the area.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Too small. One is doing gangbusters and the other looks at me and I dare it to grow.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Hard to rate something that is very small, but seems to be surviving and hopefully next year will grow rapidly.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
[...] its over 90 degrees here and the plant is not doing very well. i need to have it replaced . so i do not think it was a success.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I was disappointed in the size and price. It will be at least two years before I can put this in the area it was needed for. [...]
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I use it in the garden for beauty, it's scent and ease of growing. I would buy many more if I could now. Also the price is fairly reasonable - would like lower.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
PLANTS DEVELOPED LEAVES RIGHT AWAY.ONE IS ALREADY BLOOMING.WITH FLOWERS ALL SUMMER LONG,THEY'RE GREAT TO PLANT BY A DOOR OR WINDOW.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
The Josee lilac arrived healthy and is growing strong. The leaves are abundant - looking forward to next year's lilacs.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Planted this only a couple of weeks ago and already it has doubled in size. Very pleased with initial size and condition of plant. Anxious for first blooms - looks to be not too far away! Time will tell how well I like this in the future.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
We hope to make this bush a focal point to a small part of our garden. It's thriving and doing well despite my concerns of mail order plants. It was well packed and fresh.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
The plant when it arrived exceeded my expectations for a mail order nursery stock. It had small buds already on it and since planting it, it is extremely healthy and vibrant. I can hardly wait until it blooms. It is to fill a front garden bed and it will be perfect there.
Thanks.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I am excited about the Lilac, it is budding but I am still waiting for it to bloom...

Comments about Josée Lilac:
I planted the "twig" four Novembers ago and now it is a lovely thriving lilac almost three feet wide and tall. Smells lovely, blooms again etc. Every spring I marvel that it was just a stick when I planted it in our garden.

Comments about Josée Lilac:
Was truly looking forward to the look, fragrance and beauty of this lilac - but received plants that appear to be dead.
Would be willing to try again.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
When the plant came it was so small that it was hard to find in the large box. I sure hope it grows fast. alot of money to pay for a twig.

Comments about Josée Lilac:
I expected a bush[...] i got two incredibly small twigs in a box. i have yet to see how they fare over the winter and if they take. it was hard to follow up on the status of the delivery since it is not a gardener's product and was sent from somewhere else. i am reserving judgment.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I still don’t know what it going to happen to the Lilac, so I can’t really say anything there. However, re: the hydrangea: “The plant arrived in good condition, and once planted and watered regularly, grew healthy and green. Although there were no flowers this first season, I can’t wait for next summer when I am certain beautiful blossoms will appear in addition to even more growth in size and heartiness! I am looking forward to 2009 being an “Endless Summer…”
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Just planted my Lilac bush this Fall-hoping it weathers our winter and and in the Spring has beautiful new growth.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I thought this would be a beautiful addition to my other lilacs, but it does not seem to have made it. I soaked, planted in good soil with good drainage in full sunlight, but the once tiny green buds have turned dark and it is looking dead. I am still kind of hoping it might come back as my husband would LOVE lilacs all summer.

My plant did well for a few weeks and then for an unknown reason died.

Comments about Josée Lilac:
Wanted to have a fragrant attractive shrub like plant for the front garden near our porch. Soaked the roots for a couple days before transplanting into garden bed. After about a week, saw some green buds and then it was downhill from there. Was so hopeful and looking forward to a beautiful shrub but now dried and dead. May keep in bed and hope for maybe a reincarnation next spring before ripping out.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
The plant looked 'Dead on arrival' but is now established and seems to be doing well in spite of our near record hot days.I look forward to it blossoming ---next year??

Comments about Josée Lilac:
I was amazed and very pleased as to the healthy condition [...]the bush arrived in.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Loved the sound of having a lilac in our garden, especially one that was a dwarf variety. Plants were shipped too early in the season - it was still too cold to plant outside. Nursed them indoors until it was warm enough, now they seem to be stressed in the summer heat. Hope they survive, looking forward to having nice lilac bushes in the years to come.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
plant is lovely but arrived so late in my zone i will not have flowers until next season
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Bought this along with two other lilac bushes. upon arrival, this one looked the worse for wear, but I took tender care and planted it along with the other two. As of now, the other two lilacs (also purchased from Gardeners supply), look very healthy and happy, the Josee lilac looks like it will not make it through the summer. Still keeping hopes up, but they are fading quicky as the bush does....................
Comments about Josée Lilac:
THe plant arrived healthy, but too young to bloom. We'll wait and see
Comments about Josée Lilac:
recieved my plant very small, and is having a hard time taking off because of the weather this year. But if it turns out like its supposed to I will cherish it for years to come.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
This arrived moist but tossed about a bit in the box. After hydrating well for a couple of days I planted it and it's roots looked very good, however it just shriveled up an died and never did come to life.
Very dissatisfied.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
This little guy didn't seem so healthy when we got him but I was so pleased with the other products we had gotten from Gardener's I figured it was fine. We planted him, gave him space but also support (tomato trellis) and he wilted away and never came back.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
This is just a beautiful Lilac. It started to grow immediately!
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Looking forward to the flowers!!!
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Just put the lilac in this year, it arrived in great shape, very healthy looking, not much growth yet but in Montana it is hard to get things started, so far it has stayed healthy and alive, not the case with everything I have tried here. With our poor soil and extreme weather it is difficult to find plants that will grow well. We'll see how it makes it through the winter.

Comments about Josée Lilac:
I watered and fertilized it but it still didn't live. Won't purchase another one by mail.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
It bloomed two weeks after it was planted .
Comments about Josée Lilac:
Planted this dwarf lilac off to the side of one of my gardens, an area that has gotten lost in the past. This lilac provides a nice focal point in the once-overlooked area, adding balance to my garden. We'll see if it remains around 4 feet, and doesn't start taking over!
Comments about Josée Lilac:
I planted the lilac at the corner of our Florida room to allow for color and scent. It's companions are rosemary, lavendar, a knock out rose, and a row of basil.

Comments about Josée Lilac:
When it arrived I was shocked. It was not packed in any dirt just a plastic bag. It was and still is only 5" tall. For [$]I expected much more. I planted it in good soil and have been taking good care of it. I had to put a little fence around it so that no one would tramp on it or think it was a weed and pull it out. In spite of this it looks like it is dying and if it does I will be sending it back to you.
Comments about Josée Lilac:
It arrived healthy and is growing beautifully. I hope next year we see our Lilac blooms
Comments about Josée Lilac:
"Jose" Lilac is growing very well, is now 18" tall. The plant has not yet bloomed, but I only planted it 2 months ago. I admit, however, that I probably will transplant it so that it will have more sunshine per day. Several of my perennials are in the same area and seemed to grow more than double from last year, so "Jose" is covered by shadow within mid morning and not enough that the lilac needs where I planted the lilac. I bought one for my son, a happy gardener, and that one is already blooming.....and in sunshine at his house! I have already recommended this plant several friends because I am a believer of this plant. Thank you so much. I love your products!
