Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

When we built our two large above-ground flower boxes we didn't plan on needing to mow in between them. It was always a struggle keeping the area neat, but now with the rubber walkway we don't need to worry about that anymore.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I like this product since it helps cut down on weeds and stray grass around my raised bed garden area. I wish there were more product in the package since I really could have used more (poor spatial analysis on my part). I wanted something that was more or less solid since the lawn comes right up to the edge. I see more of this product in the future.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I ordered the earlier version of this mat which was backed by black mesh and the weeds grew up through it. Now it is backed by black plastic but to be safe I laid a piece of black plastic down first and then laid the mats on top. Now they work perfectly. Another suggestion would be to grade the surface before putting them down, they look much neater and very professional.

not particularly long lasting
By GeeBeeVerified Purchaser from Haddockville, WA on 5/27/2011
Pros:
Easy To Use, Effective at weed control, Looks nice
Cons:
A disappointment, Has disintigrated quickly, Too easy to tear
Best Uses:
Garden path, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Getting Started
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I used this to line a garden path between raised
beds. After a few seasons outside it has become
fragile enough to tear easily, even though it isn't walked on very often, and appears to
be slowly falling to pieces along the edges. On the plus side, it IS still keeping the weeds on the path at bay.

Makes garden look great!
By The happy gardnerVerified Purchaser from Atlanta, GA on 5/27/2011
Pros:
Easy To Use, Eco-Friendly, Effective, Long Lasting, Organic, Safe
Best Uses:
Dandelions, Gardens, Weeds
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I have 9 raised beds in a fenced enclosure. It is too hard to get a mower in to mow between the beds. The rubber walkways are the answer. I put them between the beds and they really work to keep weeds and grass down. As an added benefit, they make the garden look very neat and clean. Thought you can cut them to size, I overlapped them if they were too big so I could move them if necessary.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I have 5 dogs who tear around the yard on their designated paths. After trying hardwood and cedar mulch (it stays put better) for years, I tried 2 of the walkways. I have since purchased 2 more.
One of the original ones is several years old and finally starting to shred a bit. It is laid down on a curve that the dogs bank around when they chase each other. I have large dogs and I'm amazed that they didn't ruin this walkway the first year. Usually the mulch would be flung hither and yon within a month.

Not So Great Especially For The Price
By Katie from Antioch, CA on 12/12/2010
Pros:
Easy to Apply, Safe
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

My front yard is a hill and my "walkway" was just a strip of mud down the middle ice plant. Got 3 of these to make the walk to te sidewalk and back to the house not so muddy and slippery, especially for the mailman. Instaled it between xmas 2009 and newyear 2010, and also applied a preemergent weed killer before laying it down. Well, it has a built in weedcloth under it in the first place, but used the weed killer just in case. By the spring, weeds had grown up through it and one corner was torn away, although it's possible and just a little probable someone tried to pull it up and steal it, IDK. Very disappointed. I had high hopes for this product and now it's even [$] more than it wasa year ago, making it even a poorer value.

This product is pretty much as described; expensive considering the size, so using it as a main pathway cover, for example, is prohibitive; the red color is unnatural and unattractive.

By CathyVerified Reviewer from Providence, RI on 9/8/2010

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

This was great in theory and not bad for the first season. But in season two there are more weeds coming through it than there were before I ever put the walkway down. For the price I would expect much better. And the redwood color is MUCH brighter than pictured.

super Sidewalks
By Legendary LynnVerified Purchaser from Ford City PA on 8/27/2010
Pros:

Cons:
Ground Water Contaminant, Width should be enlarged
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Master Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I needed a long lasting product to create a walkway / barrier in a large perennial garden that had big weed and invasive plant issues. I had tried smother mulch and sprays but my walkways continued to be overtaken. If you cannot easily get into a bed, it is much more difficult to keep it under control. The recycled rubber walkway is the best thing I have found by far. And it looks very organic until you are right on it. And I think even that will change with use and time. My only concern is about chemicals leeching into the soil from the rubber. Because of this, I would never consider using this product in a vegetable garden.

By Deb from South Bend, IN on 8/5/2010
Pros:
Easy to Apply
Best Uses:
Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I have had mulch tree rings before and I was expecting this to be of the same density and sturdiness and them. When I received my order I could hardly get the roll out of the package without tearing corners. Even though it was easy enough to roll out, if I had to lift to adjust a section, the mat would crumble in my hand. I was disappointed.

This makes a great walkway. The backing is attached so it's easy to put down, take up, or rearrange; it looks great and is very durable. I found what I thought was the same product at a well known store for less money but when I got it home, the backing wasn't attached and the rubber shredded as I was unrolling.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Putting down on newly created walkways. I ordered this product last summer and those have survived Chicago winter and Scottie who knows only one speed--helter/skelter. I tried someone else's product that appeared to be the same, but a better, lower price, and when it arrived, I knew it had been a mistake. The landscape material was NOT attached to the mulch piece and so everything tore immediately. I DO wish this product was less expensive and a bit bigger.

Pros:
Easy to Apply, Eco-Friendly, Effective
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I bought this product to go between some raised beds. For some reason, I thought it was going to be larger -- blame me for that. For the size, it is very pricey. It was flimsy (as other reviewers warned), and because it didn't adequately cover my three pathways, I ended up using some heavy duty landscaping fabric for the other 2 walkways, covering them with pea gravel, and then covering this mat with pea gravel as well. So, the bottom line is that I am using this rather expensive mat as landscape fabric.

The idea of laying down a carpet type walkway between my raised beds was great. The product, however fell apart as I unrolled it and as I walk on it it continues to shred and come off the backing. Idea-great / actual product-completely inferior.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I purchased six rolls over two orders, 2 weeks apart.
The four rolls in the first order we a nice chocolate brown, but the weed barrier was only rolled with the rubber, not attached to it, and the rubber pulled apart on the edges as I tried to arrange it.
The two rolls in the second order were much redder, but the particles were more varied in size (looks much more like real mulch) and the backing was definitely securely attached. I was able to make it work, as I was using it as the path around my raised beds. There was a natural break where the color change made sense.
One trick I did figure out was to roll the material in the opposite direction right after it's taken out of its bag... makes it MUCH easier to install!

I bought this product to make paths around my vegetable beds. The first time I purchased, the mulch was perfect -- looked great and held the weeds down. When I reordered, the mulch came separated from the backing. I had to first lay the week block backing, then the mulch. It was also much less refined on the edges. I'd like more, but I'm afraid to order again.

I really like products that are eco-friendly, I thought re-using old tires would be great. This product has the right idea, unfortunately it shreds and tears easily. The product covers the space as advertised and is easy to lay out. I am sure it will keep weeds and moss out of the area where it is installed. However, it is not for even moderate traffic areas. I had expected it would be at least twice as thick as it is, maybe more. It seems to tear easily, especially at the edges, and I am afraid to walk on it or run a wheelbarrow over it.

I am using it in my front yard with a series of raised beds. I like the material very much but it is not a good value. More of the material needs to be provided for the money invested. Nevertheless I have ordered more because I like the look of it. However, if it doesn't I will decline to buy it again. Overall I love the products I have bought from Garden Supply. You usually get good value for your $. This is one of the few exceptions.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I have had a raised beds in my organic garden for years, and every spring, come the rains - muddy, messy garden paths. When I saw this product in the catalog, I bought several to try them out in solving this long standing problem in my garden. They are incredibly easy to install, just take them out of the bag and unroll! My one beef is they are only 6' long, and it took quite a few to finish my garden. It would be great if they were available in longer lengths and wider widths. They are pretty pricey, so I am hoping they will last a good, long time. I bought some bags of recycled red rubber mulch that is ground up to look like bark, and scattered it over the seams where the walkways meet, and between the walkways and my raised beds, where there were gaps. The color matched well, and as the sun works on the red rubber mulch and the paths, they are blending even more. It looks very nice and is a pleasure to move my wheelbarrow on, working in the beds. It drains very well, also. I moved a swing back there, and enjoy spending time just swinging with my cat and dog, and enjoying my new "landscaped" garden. Very easy for one person to do, with good results. Will wait to see how they last, as they are a little thin.

It is best to remove weeds from walkways before laying this down, but once it is down, nothing gets through. It makes such a nice clean path between my raised beds, and if any dirt spills onto it while tilling my beds, I can just lift it up and shake the dirt back into the bed. The size is just right for my 6' beds with 2' between.

I used the fabric in my vegetable garden, between the raised beds, where weeds have always taken over. It was easy to apply and looks OK, but I wish I had ordered the other color because the red looks out of place(however, the website advertisement wouldn't show the other color). It's too early to tell how well it will hold up to foot traffic, but hopefully (for the price) it will solve my problem longer than my old method of using cardboard.

LOVE this item! I have raised beds for my herbs and veggies, because my NW clay soil is soggy in the rainy season (which is from fall through April). I had already built two raised beds and placed them in my yard, when I found these recycled rubber walk-ways. They just happened to fit between my 6' beds! This year, I built another raised bed and ordered another mat. No muddy shoes when I walk between the beds! As an extra added bonus - it looks good! I can't tell much difference between last year's and the new one. Very sturdy!

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Used for walkway in front yard, sidewalk to porch. I thought it was quite expensive especially after receiving it and seeing how thin it is. Put Preen under it because I have a feeling the weeds will easily grow up through it. Was going to even put another double layer of
weedcloth under it but thought it would make it somewhat slippery, even though I used the earth staples. Only time wil tell if it was a good investment. For those of you who thought it was expensive pre-2010, it just went up 30+% so I won't be buying any more. I also agree they need to be longer, I had to use 3 to reach the sidewalk. They should sell it by the foot so there is no money or product waste.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I purchased this to use between garden beds. The overall effect was overwhelming [too much pathway] so I removed the center portion and I am using it as a wide garden edging I can mow over. Some grass does grow up through this product. It's a fairly expensive way to do a pathway, but it's easily movable/removable if you want to make changes. It's easy to install [except for hammering in the ground staples required to hold it in place]. It uses recycled rubber tires, so it's helping to reuse a difficult-to-dispose-of item.

I used this to create a pathway through my veg garden for access to our propane tank. Perfect. Grips well for walking (important, since it's on a hill), has kept the weeds under wraps with nothing showing through so far, after more than a month. I'd love to get more.

Pros:
Easy to Apply, Eco-Friendly, Effective, Long Lasting, Organic, Safe
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

The rubber walkway is a great product and a great value. We purchased it to aid our older dog in his walk on gravel from our back porch to our back yard. The walkway has served this purpose very well as our dog has tender feet and the walkway is soft and comfortable. Sadly, our dog, Mitchell, recently passed away.

Pros:
Easy to Apply, Eco-Friendly, Effective
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I wanted to place a path within a large perennial bed but didn't want to deal with mulches, gravel, blocks or pavers. This product fit the bill. I am worried about weeds so I placed a double layer of weed barrier and Preen underneath before laying it down. The color faded quickly, losing that initial shiny look. I haven't noticed any odor and it looks great - I hope it holds up well once in place since it does have a tendancy to crumble off in spots when being worked on - it would be great if there were cornered pieces offered in addition to the straight pieces.

We have a bower that we are creating. It is perfect between the sides and was so easy to cut and get into place. I also use it as a pathway between flowers to our neighbor's yard. Their dogs think it is terrific as well. They use it instead of between flowers.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I was desperate to create an easy to care for and safe path in the narrow space between the back of my raised beds and the fence. Use instead of mulch.
By JanVerified Purchaser from Marianna, PA on 8/11/2009
Pros:
Easy to Apply, Eco-Friendly, Long Lasting
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Because of the wind, I have to replace mulch each year and I have used this to replace large areas of loose mulch. I have used the smaller rubber mulch near the driveway and sidewalks to cut down on sweeping. It worked great. So when I saw this larger version, I thought about using it on the large areas of mulch that must be replaced each year. Not only does it look good, but it cuts down on weeds. I will definitely be purchasing more of these to complete this project.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

The pathways through my garden were originally made by laying down river rocks and spreading sand over them. Pretty at first, but weeds and grass invaded over the years. I'd spend more time weeding the pathways than the garden itself. These weed barrier walkways were easy to install, suppress the weeds and grass beneath them, and I could create curved paths by angling the six foot lengths.

I bought this fabric to avoid the splashing of water/dirt on the house that comes from the downpour of water off the roof (especially this year!). It blends in perfectly with the mulch I use so you can't tell the difference where one ends and the other starts. I plan on buying more for the same use. Fantastic! Not plasticy looking either; looks like real mulch. Solved a major, ongoing problem with little effort. LOVE IT!

Pros:
Easy to Apply
Cons:
Insubstantial
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I had previously purchased the rubber mulch tree ring and was impressed by the heavy-weight construction. I assumed (my fault) that the pathways would be the same product, except for the shape. They are not. They are much less substantial. Not awful, but not quite what I was expecting, or what I hoped for. But I am using them. They do keep weeds down between beds. I just don't think they'll last as long as I'd hoped they would.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I am using 5 of these to cover an area that is quickly becoming hostile to lawn mowing. Large spruce has larger width than predicted and too close now to fence line to comfortably mow the grass. Other mulch products too likely to be consumed by my dogs so I was very happy to find this product. Easy for me to apply, attractive and safe. Mourning doves sun there every morning so they have also given it a thumbs up.

Cons:
Pervasive Odor
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

This product is easy to use just roll it out and its done. I bought it to keep my cat from pooping in my garden and to keep my dog from digging in the garden to get the cat poop (ewe!). My cat will still poop in the garden but I see it and clean it before the dog gets to it (most of the time :0). It keeps the dog from digging and keeps weeds down. The only con is that it has an odor to it which will hopefully go away with time. It would be nice if it came in longer lengths.

This looked a little artificial when we first put it down, but after a week the flowers had started bending over it, a few leaves had settled on it, and it now looks very natural. I have only had it for a month, but I hope it will keep up for a long time.

Redwood is very red
By Mumsie711Verified Purchaser from Houston, TX on 6/11/2009
Pros:
Easy to Apply
Cons:
Pervasive Odor
Best Uses:
Gardens
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Used the product at the back of flower beds to prevent weeds, keep soil from washing, and animals from digging. Haven't had animal issues yet, haven't had extreme rain to test the washing, and for the most part it has kept weeds at bay, although some seem to be getting through. Probably would suggest putting down a layer of newspapers before laying this product. Rubber smell will hopefully dissipate over time. It is a brighter red than I expected and will be obvious unless it fades with time. Haven't found any wood mulch product that comes close to that color. If I had it to do over, I would order the other color. On flat areas it may not be necessary to buy the earth staples to hold it in place. Time will tell.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

We have problems with our dogs running a path worn into the ground where no grass will grow.
The path was around a fence. I purchased the recyled walkway and it not only looks wonderful but most of all the dogs use it. We were afraid they would avoid it but it is nice and soft and cushioning to their paws. It has solved alot of problems for us.

Cons:
Bark loosens easily

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Because my garden is on pure shale, I use this for a comfortable walk way. I am hoping to allow some ground cover n to grow up to the mat to soften the effect. I should have chosen the walnut color as the redwood is a little to instense in color.
So far basically satisfied

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Not sure how long this will last as it was shedding fiber right out of the package. It does roll right out, so easy to use. I don't think it will hold up to the heavy rains we usually receive here in South Louisiana.

Great for Bean Fort Floor
By LauraVerified Reviewer from Lawrence, KS on 6/6/2009
Pros:
Easy to Apply, Eco-Friendly, Effective, Safe
Best Uses:
Bugs & Insects, Forts for Kids, Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

We make a bean fort for the kids every year with trellises and pole beans. The kids spend much of the summer in it shaded from the sun with snacks growing from the walls. I've had trouble finding the right floor for the bottom of the fort. Wood chips attract ants and the kids' chair legs sink through them causing them to fall. I bought 3 of the rubber walkways and lined them up along the bottom of the fort. The chairs sit on them well and it seems like the perfect solution. I also plan to buy more of various shapes to put in the open center of our sunflower forest which serves as another fort/pirate jail. It stops weeds and keeps the kids from getting too muddy. I am very happy with this product.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I put these down in all the garden paths/walkways. They look great, neat and not messy like bark mulch. Should keep the weeds at bay just fine. They were easy to install with the staples, and didn't have to use many in each one. Looks as though they will last for years, but time will tell.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Did not want to spend another summer pulling weeds from my veggie garden (4 x 17), so did my last pulling and weed spraying and laid this mulch carpet down. Edge the garden in rock. This year I have planted my veggies in large pots and put on top of this mulch carpet. It is doing the trick, is clean and neat and I have received compliments on it. People have said "great idea". LOVE IT!!

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I bought one of these to create a walkway on a dirt path. I liked it so much I bought two more. Those two were on backorder and when I received them, they were not as durable as the first. Bits and pieces started falling apart although I decided to keep them after trimming off the affected areas.

This makes my trimming work in the yard easier. I placed the rubber edging under my stone garden edging and extended it out a bit, so I can run my mower over the edging which eliminates my trim work in this part of the garden. Thanks a bunch!

Waiting to see how this holds up . . .
By TraceryVerified Purchaser from Zone 5, Pennsylvania on 5/24/2009
Pros:
Easy to Apply
Best Uses:
Gardens, Weeds
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I am using this product as a pathway to divide different sections of my fenced-in vegetable garden, and also as a walkway around the interior perimeter. I used Earth Staples to install. Easy to use, looks fantastic, and it has not allowed a single weed to appear. My only concern is for how effective it will be in the long term . . . the mulch fibers do not appear to be really firmly adhered to the fabric backing. This product was relatively expensive, but if it holds up for a number of years, it will be more than worth it. If it still looks good after about 3 years, I will change my overall rating to 5 stars!

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I placed this next to the foundation to prevent weeds and hold my pots of Hostas in the shade. It looks good, and when I cover it with leaves will be even better. We live in the woods and we have a "natural" yard - not a manicured one. Weeds are a constant problem. I think it will be a very useful product and will probably buy more for other areas near and just under the deck. I do not intend to use it for walkways necessarily, other than around the deck.

Got this to cover a muddy spot in the path I use to get into my side yard veggie garden. It was easy to lay down and secure with ground stakes and satisfies my need to recycle. It is just the right width for a pathway and inexpensive enough to be user friendly especially for elders on a budget!
It looks good and adds a nice dimension to the space.

Great Impostor
By Lyn the LandscaperVerified Purchaser from Loomis, CA on 4/22/2009
Pros:

Cons:
A bit pricey, Needs more length
Best Uses:
Mixed w rubber mulch, Pathway
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

I have a long pathway of loose rubber mulch. I moved the mulch to the sides and put the "walkway" in the middle. Then I covered the fabric and staples with the loose mulch. Now the dog or people won't scatter the mulch. The walkway stays in place and leaves can be blown off of it. If it were cheaper and longer I would do all my paths with it. I wish they made different widths and lengths. It would be wonderful for flower beds.

Comments about Recycled Rubber Walkway:

Mainly used as a pathway through plants to our gas meter. Also allows window washer access to an out of the way window. It's a good way to direct service people to walk where they should.
The color blends in well with the lawn, plants, stepping stones and mulch - an excellent product and practical use for scrapped tires.

Lot of waste if path curves since this lays out one way and one way only - straight. You could cut it etc but then you have a lot of waste.I filled in my gaps with loose rubber mulch which is available everywhere but is also ranges from [$] a bag depending on area.
