    Comments about Mulch Block:

We live in the city and don't have a wheelbarrow, but this easily expands in a box or a large garbage can lined with a garbage bag. If you have a garbage can on wheels, you can wheel it out to the garden and scoop out the mulch. Great coverage, looks natural, great as compost at the end of the season.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Compact and works well at fighting weeds and maintaining moisture in dry Wyoming. Although it expands a lot from what is shipped, if you are doing a large area (around 14 fruit trees in my case) it gets expensive. I used 3 packs on my 14 fruit trees, but probably needed 4-5. I'd like to use more, but it gets price prohibiting. I added locally sourced straw to keep the weeds farther away than what the mulch would cover.

Mulch that is easy on the back

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I purchased to use in my vegetable garden. It was hard to place around seedings due to its chunky composition. For my purpose, shredded mulch would work better. However, once applied (around larger plants), it was great at controlling weeds and keeping in moisture.

I ordered 10 mulch blocks in April and they performed as advertised and reviewed. When I ordered 10 more, the product was from a different supplier. Blocks seemed smaller and did not fluff up in water but just sat in a block in a puddle. Won't order again. Dissappointed.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Coir is the miracle ingredient that permits desert gardeners to exist. In the California,Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico deserts fierce 30 to 40 mph winds and temps above 110 sucka 20 gallon self watering planter dry in less than three hours. Forget Peat Moss, only coir, the shredded outer covering of the coconut can hold onto it's moisture saving the roots of yourprecious plants from drying up. The more desert clim you're exposed to, the more coir is needed. Your catalog sells the twotypes of Coir. The bricks which are fine and are mixed into your soil mix along with vermiculite to hold the moisture and the coarser mix which is used as a mulch on top. Both are of excellent quality and because of their light weight when dehydrated [...] I highly recommend these products to all who wish to have gardens in deserts where it was once thought to be impossible.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I've used this product at my school in our courtyard garden. The products light weight made it easy for me to transport and it has turned out to be a hard worker in our garden. The mulch was easy to spread, had good coverage, and did an excellent job of keeping the weeds down. I just checked the other day; the mulch still looks good and needs minimal replenishing after 9 months on the job. The one minor difficulty we had was with hydrating the product. It was messy as some have indicated, but overall well worth using. I've already purchased more for this season.

I have severe arthritis in my hip, making it very difficult to lug bags of mulch. This was so easy to transport and once it was re-hydrated, it spread nicely. It looks good, too. And so far there hasn't been much washing onto the walkway or blowing out of place in very strong wind. I would definitely buy more of this product.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Have ordered these blocks several times for a large bed along the house. The weight of the item is an obvious pro compared to hauling bags or shoveling out of a pickup. One day I did not finish spreading the mulch and left a block in the rain ... easily spread it in the morning without further soaking. Am applying it at 3" depth. Only reason I did not give this product 5 stars is I want to see what (if anything) sprouts thru it in several months.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I haven't used it yet, but since you have to "hydrate" the mulch, I believe what I plan on using it for should work great. I have a couple of outdoor bushes that I plan on pruning into bosai's next year, but I need to store them for the winter. I use the mulch in a bin that I bury the bushes in to keep the roots warm during the "cold" months. What I can do is bury the bush with the mulch and then add the water to "hydrate" the mulch. This way I'm watering not only the mulch, but also giving moisture to the bush for most of the winter, adding water slowly through the mulch during the winter.

this is my first year to use this, but I don't see any problems. I was nice not to have a big load from the garden store. It came to the door and it was light and didn't have dirt in my car. The weight is in the water and a garden hose is easy to move. I have used a trash can and a bucket to ice sodas to rehydrate and they worked fine.

Order from Gardener's Supply Company. They are easy to transfer to site where the mulch is needed. Put into a wheel barrow to add water, mix, and apply the mulch where needed. When the mulch disintegrates, it becomes part of the soil and you can just add some more new mulch. To also use it as weed barrier, 4 sheets of wet newspaper (without color) should be placed under the mulch.

I like that I can haul this mulch to the bottom of the yard without help. I like that my dogs don't chew on it and bring "bark bits" into the house like they do with traditional bark mulch. I like that weeds do not readily sprout in the areas where this mulch is used. I like that I don't have to spray herbicides around the plants. So what's not to like about mulch block? Nothing!

My flower garden is big. It was supposed to rain, so I put the blocks down dry about 4 feet apart. The next day I went out there with a rake and spread the mulch. It was very easy to spread. The small clumps that were left, broke apart very easily by hand. It is well worth the money. It covers about the same area as a bag of mulch, maybe a little less. I love the color. It is a dark rust color which looks nice when the flowers are gone for the winter.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Maybe this product is OK if you have a small window planter and don't mind spending $10 to mulch it. But then again, you might not like seeing the messy coconut husks close up. The texture runs from fine fiber to chunks of hull, and it's yellowish brown. It does not go as far as the description implies, unless you spread it so thinly that it loses its efficacy.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I bought this mulch because I live in New Mexico where it is hot and dry in the summer. This product performs as promised in helping with water retention around plants. In addition, although I did notice just a couple of weeds growing through the mulch, it overall cut down considerably on the number (quantity) of weeds growing in the mulched areas. The few weeds that did grow were feeble and easy to pull.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I just finished applying 10 blocks to my garden. I should have read all of the negative reviews before buying it. They were right...
    - VERY time consuming to add water, wait, then break it apart before even starting to apply
    - color/texture inconsistencies that make each added pile stand out from the rest (I HOPE this will fade & blend better in time)
    - bits of white plastic string in every single block (nothing organic, biodegradable OR renewable about that)
    - made in Sri Lanka... NOT eco-friendly when shipped halfway around the world.
    - plastic laminated labeling can't be recycled
    - NOT a rich chocolate color overall, more orange tones than brown
    - coverage listed is inaccurate... I had to buy 3 more blocks to finish the job that 10 should have done
    - greatly overpriced as compared to other good quality, locally produced mulches (that are also more eco-friendly because they are more local)

I would not recommend this product and won't be applying it to any other gardens.

Use this product in flower beds -- it is lovely and environmentally friendly. So easy to apply, but it takes alot to apply thick enough to prevent weeds. A standard bark mulch but compressed into a neat block that expands when water added. Perfect for patio garden pots in an apartment because you do not have to haul a big messy bag of mulch through the lobby. Extra block stores neatly in a closet. Mulch is a great way to reduce moisture loss from pots.

It is effective in weed control and easy to put around the plants. I just put a couple of blocks in my wheelbarrow, add water and a few minutes later it is ready to use!!! I have severe pain and weakness in my arms and hands. What a blessing this product is! blocks were full of small pieces of plastic bits and one of the blocks actually had a piece of barbed wire that could have cut your finger if you weren't paying attention, not organic by any means.
they didnt cover as much area as it said and didnt soak up the water as quickly as i would have thought. i was almost tempted to ask for my money back, but a couple of the blocks i had ordered last year. over all, they were extremely disappointing and i feel below gardeners supply standards.

I noticed that my plants looked better this year where I had applied this mulch than the plants mulched with bark mulch. I ordered more. I removed the plastic wrap, placed the block in a tubtrug and poured hot tap water over it from the kitchen sink. It came apart easily. I then carried the tub outside and laid down the mulch. Because it is "fuzzy" it holds together better and is easy to apply. It also is better than bark mulch in keeping weeds out.

This product is used in my flower beds around my house. I first used it about 3 years ago in a bed on the northside of my house where there is very little sun. The Hemlock bark that is commonly used here in the Nothwest breaks down quickly and tends to grow moss in shady wet areas. I have not had that problem since I put the Mulch Block down. I also have not needed to add any more as of yet. This year I added it to all my beds. The moisture retaining quality is great and my yard is the best looking one on the street.

I wanted a project I could do by myself while hubby was at work. He built frames with landscape timbers around bee balm plants, butterfly bushes and trumpet vine trellis and I put this mulch down to cut down on weeds and grass and it looks so pretty. After the 4th bag I got the hang of stirring it up & applying. Put it down over a layer of newspapers and was excited that I didn't have to lug sacks of mulch. [...] I will order MORE cause I have more frames to fill up. Very impressed with product!

Several years ago I ripped my front lawn out and put in a dry creek with native Northern CA drought tolerant plants. The mulch block fills in all the other areas and is a great weed suppressor as well as a useful product to hold water that used to run off the lawn. I have since decided to eliminate the small lawn area in my back yard with the mulch blocks. It keeps it's color and no insects really like to live in the mulch. It's a great product [...]. It looks nice and is not hard on your bare feet in the summer. You all need to check it out and order some. You won't be disappointed.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Although pricey this product attracted me by its convenience. I bought six blocks. However, I found it made a very coarse mulch coarser than wood chips or most bagged mulch) that were awkward to spread. These chunks of stuff do not have much coverage. However, may assist in building up very sandy soil in years to come in the small areas I could afford to cover

I am a home bound person and am unable to go to a store to buy or carry mulch. With these blocks, and I have repeatedly purchased them as I am able to manage to get certain areas much covered as they are easy to handle intact.
I put one in the wheelbarrel and water it down..can then disperse from there.
The only con is I wish the much was a bit finer. They do contain some rather large chunks of wood.

I live in Florida and with the perrenials I am putting in the ground from fall (had been container garndened) I dig a whole a couple of feet below where I want the actuallt roots to be - take a mixture of worm castings and this mulch (after water has been added),top that off with a few inches of regular soil, the put the plant down, mix a small amout of much and natural earth with castings, aroung the roots and sides of the plant.
Water with sea-algea fertilizer. Not one of the plants I have transplanted IN DIRECT FLA SUNLIGHT has even wilted! The man who helped me transplant them can not believe it. He has called it a miracle. I am calling it great!! I always want to keep this on hand and am ordering more today!

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I use this product all around my garden. I recently transplanted some parenials toward the end of August because I just wasn't able to keep up with their water needs in pots. I added some of this about 4 inches beneath where I intended the roots to be, fillled in a few inches of dirt and then added a little to the area where plant roots would rest along with some root stimulator and worm castings, watered and filled the rest of the hole with soil. I gently stepped on the area around the transplant, watered and added and finished off with more soil where it was necessary. I was worried because this is FLorida and in the direct sun light(I was expecting a lot). NONE OF THE PLANTS/FLOWERS WILTED AFTER TRANSPLANT. THEY ALL JUST TOOK OFF AND STARTED IMMEDIATELY WITH NEW GROWTH AND BLOOMS.
I intend to use this as part of the mulch I will use when I tuck these same plants in for the winter.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS FOR YOURSELF.
I GAVE SOME AS A GIFT TO A FRIEND, SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME GOOD FORTUNE WITH THE PRODUCT.

I have clay soil to contend with. I have tried many products to help amend the soil and keep moisture in the ground. As I get older I find it combursome to haul around large packages...I found this product on Gardener's Supply and it is perferct for me!! I have spread it around my entire flower garden...not just around the plant itself. This keeps the moisture in so well that my plants are 10 times the size they use to be!! And so healthy!!! I have a Mexican Sunflower that is so big people have stopped to ask me what it is, even though it's quite common around town. It's so big that they don't recognize it!
I would recommend this product highly and will be getting more of it myself!!!

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Buying light-weight blocks of mulch beats lugging heavy bags of mulch. And ordering the blocks online couldn't have been simpler. Mixing the mulch was easier than I thought it would be -- just add water and stir. I'm waiting to see how good this mulch is at weed-control over time. One down side: The blocks don't make as much mulch as the ads state. One block wasn't enough to adequately cover one small flower bed. Otherwise, I really like the product.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I have mostly used my newly purchased mulch blocks around trees and shrubs. I find it does not blow away with the strong winds we sometimes get here the way ordinary mulch does. The odor from one of the bags was a bit much, but the ease of use made up for it. I simply empty one or two blocks into a wheelbarrow the night before, let it soak in water all night, and haul it to its destination in the morning. I plan on buying more for other areas of the yard.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

this product is very expensive and not very efficient. You have to wait quite a while for the block to grow into a usable lump of mulch-turning it, watering it, breaking it apart etc., it is not like the picture! It looks nice and spread fine-but this is really only a solution for a very small area. DO not buy this if you have a yard. I ended up having regular mulch delivered becuase after spending [$] on this product and 4 hours putting it in, I only had a 4 x 100ft section done.

This is a good product. It's expensive but does a good job. Not eco friendly meaning it's made from coconuts. Living in Maryland I can only hope that it came from Florida or Hawaii but I'm sure it didn't. It takes just as much work really as bagged mulch. I do like the fact that it has no chemicals in it. Beautifil orangeish brown color. It is messy and takes more trime due to having to soak the brick to get it good and moist before spreading it out.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I think the above says it all. This is the only product I have purchased
from you that I would not buy again. A big disappointment. One excellent
solution for a lightweight, effective mulch is pine needle straw but, alas,
our local sources no longer carry it - that's why I decided to try this.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

What a sore back saver! The blocks are so light and easy to put where you want, however, you have to soak it to get it to crumble so you can put it where you want it to go. I found it best to soak it for a few minutes in water in a tub. It soaks up so much water it's amazing! Then just toss it where you want it to go. It looks really beautiful. Only con was that I had to order twice the amount I thought I would need but didn't really begrudge the extra order as it works so well and looks great!

    Comments about Mulch Block:

As a city gardener (and busy mother of 3) it is challenging to find what you need for your garden at a fair price, and even harder to lug it up the stoop, through the house, and down the rear stairs. These convenient, easy to use, [...]mulch blocks have been just great. I get limited sun, and the mulch makes the bare spots disappear.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I bought this product thinking it was a greener alternative to regular mulch, but it is from Indonesia (shipping that far is not green).Once spread out, the product looks very nice, however, it does not cover much ground. I bought 2 blocks just to try it out. I then bought 2 bags of mulch from my local gardening store. The bagged mulch covered 2 1/2 times more area than the block mulch. It also cost less than 1/3 of the block mulch.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I started using this on my vegetable garden (homemade grow boxes) two years ago. It made such a wonderful difference in water conservation, plant health, and appearance that I've begun applying it to flower borders as well, with great results. My only problem with it is that it scatters some in the very high winds we get -- though it does so less than anything else I've ever tried.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

These mulch blocks are great for old ladies like me or those who cannot do heavy lifting. Instead of watering the block, I found it much easier and quicker to soak the block in a large bucket. It takes lots of water to puff it up but it spreads beautifully, it very CLEAN and is a great color. I needed to order twice the amount to cover the area it claims to cover, but still it was worth it.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I live in an area with insane amounts of wind and was losing large amounts of soil, as all of my trees and plants are in pots. I applied the mulch and since doing so have not lost any soil, is has also made a difference in the weeds I have had to pull. It looks great, was easy to apply and the cats in my neighborhood don’t like it so I have had less "gifts" in my plants as well.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

The mulch blocks are a great find! No more lifting heavy bags out of the car trunk and then hauling them around the yard! They get [...] right to the door--I open the box, take out the mulch blocks, then break down the box for recycling. The mulch I put down last year looks just as good as what I just put down last week. And at last the mulch in all my beds looks the same. As a senior citizen, I really appreciate the ease of working with the blocks. Because the mulch doesn't fade, I think it is well worth the extra price

    Comments about Mulch Block:

I still need to order 5 or 6 more blocks to finish mulching all of the areas I'd like to cover, so by the time I'm finished it will have gotten a bit more expensive than I expected, but I love the way it looks and the fact that I could do it a little at a time and didn't need a truck or a crew to help me spread it. As a newly single homeowner I really appreciate products like this that help me to be capable of taking care of my yard on my own, without having to muster a group of friends or neighbors to help or having to hire someone to do it for me. And I love making use of a material like shredded coconut shells, instead of using wood chips. It also has a really nice reddish-orange color without having to be dyed red like some of the mulch that has become popular around here recently.

For storage, the cube is compact, and sealed, and can be placed in a dry place until needed without taking up space.

For pots and gardens, the rich color looks great and actually accents the color of the foliage and flowers of your plants, while keeping the ground moist even on the hottest summer days.

Really impressed me with how easy it was to use and how well it works within the garden.

I ordered one block just to try. I loved the ease of use that I ordered 6 more. My age makes it hard on me dragging big heavy bags around, but this was so easy to apply and will be ordering more. I have recommended it to friends knowing they will love it for the same reasons I do.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

This mulch is so much easier to carry than those giant, soaking wet messy sacks at the stores.

One block filled in a new flower bed. It took more than one sack of conventional mulch to do the same. It required some tearing apart, but I think if I let it soak longer, it would have separated without my help.

It's amazing how one block expanded to fill my wheelbarrow!

I used this mulch block around the shrubs and citrus trees in my front yard because it's so hot there (no afternoon shade) I was looking for somehting that was also nice to look at. I order a few of these and had to order more since they are so pretty to look at, I decided to put the mulch everywhere. It makes a lot more than you would think, too!

    Comments about Mulch Block:

While color may not be the most important factor in picking mulch, all of my neighbors have commented on how nice this mulch looks. And the color has lasted with very little fading. The blocks were easy to store in the garage until we had time to use the mulch, and they fluffed up quickly when we were ready.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

The weight of a bag of mulch is one factor discouraging my using mulch. The mulch block made it so easy. I was able to break the block into smaller pieces and scatter it around my cutting perennial and vegetable gardens. I watered the gardens afterwards and the mulch expanded to its full capacity. Easy and not at all messy! I highly recommend this product. I do not have one negative comment about this product.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

We purchased 20 "Mulch Blocks" after seeing a sample in person at the Seattle Home and Garden Show. While we were impressed with the material at the show, we were a little bit dissapointed with the actual effectiveness of the product. It does not seem to hold moisture as well as shreaded cedar mulch and really seems to attract ants.

While the blocks of mulch were easy to handle and nice to have delivered, it was not very time efficient to cover the large amount of area that we had to cover, as each block takes 20 minutes or more to absorb the water and expand before application. We had two wheelbarrows to alternate loads of mulch but it took a lot of time to cover a rather small area.

That said, I do like the appearance of the material. I am anxious to see how long the color lasts as that was our main reason for purchasing the "mulch blocks" rather than cedar mulch.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

Used the product to mulch flower beds. Easy and convenient to apply. Product is not good on slopes, it will slide down. My plants and flowers did not perform well after application. I think that the stuff soaks up the water, leaving little for the plants and flowers. Also, it stained the ground when some of it got on the sidewalk. The stuff seemed to leak or have run-off of a red/brownish color. My rosebush died after application of the stuff. It might work great in a playground area or as a base under a picnic table, but I do not recommend it for use in flower beds.

    Comments about Mulch Block:

This stuff looks GREAT in our front yard. We have lavender, Shasta daisy, day lilies, and yarrow in our beds and used the mulch block to fill in. The color is a gorgeous auburn and the texture is very unique. Overestimate how much you will need as the pieces are quite large and look better with a thicker layer.

The only value I see to this product is it's compact packaging. The product itself is not as good as other readily available mulches and it is very unattractive in the garden.
