This bird feeder, though it is adorable, does not hold any sunflower seeds (like it states) or other bird seed. The spaces are too far apart and the seeds just fall right out. I have not been able to find anything that will stay in it. Bummer because it is cute.

These are pretty but much smaller than I imagined (too bad I didn't consider the dimentions). They are difficult to open and to reclose. I render tallow and have lots of fat/meat to feed the birds but these are too small to put a decent sized ball in. But they will make good gifts for my bird loving friends.

These suet feeders are just too cute! The nuthatchers and downy woodpeckers LOVE them. They are surprisingly rugged....the neighbor's big ol' dog grabbed one and I followed his tracks and found the basket part empty, but pretty much undamaged. Remind me to hang them a bit higher.....

An acorn full of seed doesn't hold the weight of a hungry squirrel as well, and so the whole acrorn falls off the screw top and the squirrel gets all the seed. It's a good idea but cheaply made.

This product is very cute looking. I have 3 but after only 1 week I no longer put any food in them. They get attacked by squirrels & racoons and are v flimsy. One got wrecked after 2 days- wire part broken by teeth. In fact I can't even find one as it must of met the desires of a squirrel or racoon and fell into bushes somewhere. Unfortunately they are not the slightest bit squirrel proof as the come apart v easy and don't serve the purpose of bird feeder. A shame as it's a nice looking porduct.

These feeders were sent as a gift to someone in the Pacific Northwest from a east coaster. The acorns were a welcome addition to the garden look. They are small, but hung together in a clump of 3, they are very pleasing to look at. The squirrels have left them alone and they are attracting a wide variety of birds. I would definitely buy these again.

    Very cute but poor design
By Deb in FairwoodVerified Reviewer from Renton, Wa on 12/31/2008

Comments about Acorn Birdfeeders, Set of 3:

These are very cute feeders but the mesh cup does not latch securely to the top of the feeder and squirrels took the feeder apart within hours of hanging and even took off with the mesh cup. I found it in the yard about a week later and took some needle-nose pliers to the grooves to make them latch more securely. It is holding up so far.

Also, my feeders came with a verdigris finish, not the antique bronze finish as advertized.

Comments about Acorn Birdfeeders, Set of 3:

These look great in the catalog, but not as good in person - the faux verdigris color is fakey and harsh. Although these are sturdy, they should be seen as a decorative item, not really to feed birds. The mesh size does not easily allow sunflower seeds through and the capacity is very small. Have not had long enough to see how they hold up outdoors and whether the verdigris paint mellows. Seem well-contructed, though.

Comments about Acorn Birdfeeders, Set of 3:

My parents in OH are fond of putting birdseed on the kitchen windowsill. (They also have a hummingbird feeder, and another for the yellow finches that feed hanging upside down, very lovely!).

In years past, we had a tree across the walk. The birds would perch, then fly in. The tree has bitten the dust, and now only the squirrels hit the sill.

So last summer, I bought them the charming Cat O'nine tails, which you fill with sunflower seeds. They now line the walk, and Dad says the birds are getting a bit more brave! So for Xmas, I bought the Acorn feeders, 3 for them, one for us.

They are adorable, and look indestructible! Now that the leaves have come down, ours looks so cute in our red maple tree (birds have found the suet!). I also got M&D wrought iron hooks, so these can line the walk as well.

Can't wait to see Mom's face when she opens them!! I want more for our tree already!

Comments about Acorn Birdfeeders, Set of 3:

These acorn birdfeeders are a perfect size and look great hanging my trees. I purchased the set of three feeders. Even though they are designed for seed, I use them for a different purpose. Some feed such as unshelled peanuts were too big for the birds to get them out of the feeders and shelled peanuts and sunflower seeds fell right through the holes. So I decided to use them as suet feeders. I have a certain pair of leather gloves that I use specifically to ball up blocks of suet as it can be messy. I drop the suet in the acorn feeders and hang them up. The birds just love it! They hang on the feeders and work away on the suet.
