Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

The three that were not cracked are great. I didn't realize that it had a crack in it till it was planted. I filled it up and it started to leak. I'm going to try to fix it. Hope it works. I hate to go through the return process. I should have gone to the store. It's what I get for ordering online.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Window Box is installed on the outward side of the front deck just below a wood cross-hatched trellis. Planted in it are a climbing passiflora and gardenia jasimine; lobellia, hanging petunia and viola. It sits at eye level by the mail box to enjoy the flowers that are blooming happily in full sun, while the climbers will be seen from the deck. It is planted in an awkward area where a lot of dripping could be a problem, so the self-watering feature is a big plus. And since it is an exposed area, rainwater would fill it, so the overflow feature is also a big plus. The special soils has resulted in vigorous growth and blooms. The 39" box fits a tight spot for installing the hanging mounts. A perfect product for a challenging location.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I've been gardening in Virginia for 40 years and never before have I been able to successfully grow annual flowers, paticularly Petunias, in a planter. Summers are hot and humid and plants in pots don't have a chance. After over a week of 90-95 degree temps and three days of 100+ my plants are beautiful and healthy. What a great product. Thank you.

We planted red geraniums in our white window box planter and it looks great against the gray stucco. We've had it about a month now and gotten many positive comments from neighbors. If not for the self-watering feather, there's no way that we would be able to plant live flowers in this south-facing spot due to the heavy sun exposure.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I installed these at a client's restaurant and they nearly pulled the shingles right off the wall! Installation was difficult because we had to add wood backings so the brackets would hold. But when the reservoirs were filled, they were still much too heavy for the brackets. These need a support that comes up from underneath (attached to the wall) and assists in holding up the box so the brackets aren't doing all the work.
This spring, I saw that the client had removed all the boxes. Very embarrassing.

Very nice design, lots of room for plants, sturdy brackets should last for years. Should include lock washers, as the wing nuts used to tighten the box to the top brackets can't be tightened sufficiently to keep the box tight to the wall without lockwashers.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I was so excited for these boxes, but have had terrible luck with them. Most of the flowers I've tried in them go all sickly within a month. They are too wet.

I thought maybe it was my soil mix, so I cleared them out and used GS's self-watering container mix, but that wasn't enough to make my plants healthy.

In the fall, when I fill the boxes with kale and asters and it's cold out, they look lovely because everything is just suspended in early frost weather. But in summer, when it's hot and sunny, the plants just do terribly.

I've had bad luck with:
Geraniums (makes sense, I guess, as these love dry)
Calibrachoa
Pansies
Petunias
Sweet Potato Vine (vines looked terrible, though I DID grow some pretty impressive tubers in my boxes)

This spring was a little better. The violas I planted actually grew! But now it's time to plant up for summer again. Going on year three and very discouraged.

Any advice on what to plant this year? I'd love to make these work for me!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

The 39" Self-Watering windowboxes are equal in quality to other sizes I have of the same product. The bronze color matches well with a weathered/natural redwood finish. However, I find that an extra bracket supporting the middle is needed to avoid stress and bending of the two brackets brackets provided. I wish these were provided, or available, through Gardner's Supply Company. Otherwise, they work as well as the other, smaller ones I have enjoyed the past few years.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

We bought these planters in hopes of not having to water every other day or day. So far it has worked well, but during the heat of the summer here in North Carolina will see how well it really works. They look really nice and are well made. I expected it to be made of cheap flimsy plastic, but that is not the case at all. They are sturdy and well made. Not sure but the little water level gage looks as if it could get dirt in it and stop working. I suspect it may need to be kept clean in order to work correctly all the time. During the summer we have to water everyday. Our hope is this planter will allow for 3 or 4 days before having to water. I'll know more in a few months and report back again at that time.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I purchased 3 of these to put on the railing of our upstairs deck. I had hoped the color would be unobtrusive until the plants grew in to cover it - the bronze blended perfectly with our brown house. I would have given it 5 stars, but we had to supplement the mounting hardware with some wood blocks and screws, which could have been due to the fact that we didn't use them as window boxes. I would have liked them a couple of inches wider, but I managed to cram a lot of plants in anyway. Only planted 2 weeks ago, so I can't speak to the self-watering aspect yet. Overall, I am very happy with the price, the look and the quality.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Wonderful product, but if left out in winter, the plastic will deteriorate faster. The weakest part is the water gauge, which will crack and come apart in a couple of seasons. They are replaceable, but not cheap. The large tomato and box type self-watering planters have gauges with very flimsy tops that often don't close properly and crack quickly. Prepare to replace those every season or two.

I bought these to use on a shelf in my rooftop vegetable garden, so I am not using the matching hardware for hanging the boxes, but I am impressed that the hardware matches the color of the boxes. I just bought them, so I don't know how they will hold up, but the seem really good so far. I like these water gauges better than the previous self-watering planters I bought, but the placement of them is a little awkward. That is a minor complaint, though. So far I am pleased with my purchase.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

These Self-Watering Windowboxes happen to fit perfectly inside the cedar planters that hang all around the 40 feet of railings that circle three sides of my balcony. I bought a few of them about six years ago as an experiment and they worked so well I bought enough to use all the way around the balcony. I grow geraniums, petunias, and the lushest sweet potato vines you've ever seen and I crowd them in to these window boxes so tight I can hear the ladies' garden club tsk-tsk all the way from the fourth floor. But a few week's later, the garden club's asking me how I get the incredible results I get. The sweet potatoes drink water like a drunk sailer as my grandma would say, but the huge reservoirs in these keep them fresh and growing.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I have had my six 39" self-watering window boxes for seven plus years. I have nothing but good !!!!comments to make about them. Every year my friends and neighbors rave about the beautyof the flowers. And I have to admit that I don`t water as often as I should. Thus, the wonderful self watering boxes. My only con remark is that over the years of putting up and taking down, I have broken a number of the water indicators. However, I decided to call about replacing these and was able to get new ones. We love the way we don't have to worry about frequent watering of the flowers in these containers. We bought 2 about 10 years ago, then 2 more after several years; now just bought 6 more. If I had to pick a fault, it would be that the newer water-level indicators yellow with age, while the oldest (red float) are still clear. That was not a product improvement.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I love these ! I have two boxes hanging from the wooden rails of my front porch. I spaced the brackets to distribute the weight of the planters so I didn't have to screw in the brackets and make holes in the rails. I figured out that the weight of the flower box when filled with soil would be heavy enough to keep the brackets from shifting sideways. I was right. They stayed in place all spring and summer. I purchased the recommended potting mix and planted after the boxes were in place. My flowers and plants stayed beautiful despite the record heat and lack of rain for weeks on end. It was easy to monitor the water reservoir level. I watered when the red pop up stick disappeared. I used self dissolving plant food packets made to dissolve in a gallon of water every other week to keep my petunias lush and full. I also purchased a gallon watering can and removed the spray nozzle so I could easily fill the watering tube. I decided in mid October to remove the boxes and brackets for the fall and winter. Cleanup was easy. The soil was so packed with roots that when I pulled out the plants, the soil came out as well in one big mass. First I sprayed plastic patio furniture spray cleaner all over them and then hosed it down. The cleaner easily removed all stains and remaining dirt without me having to scrub. Cleaning the bottom of the inside was also easy once I figured out how to pop up the grates that covers the water reservoir (which had some roots stuck inside. You have to very carefully pop up the grates from the middle without bending them too far. I removed the roots, hosed it again and then popped the grates back in place. I have the white window boxes and they look brand new with no signs of wear, fading or staining. Last year I had purchased wrought iron window boxes with grass liners at [...]. They dried out too easily, and by the end of the summer the liner leaked dirt. I am very happy with my purchase and am buying more for my back deck.

I have had 2 of these window boxes (used as window boxes) for many years. They stay outside year-round, facing the south sun. They are still working beautifully. My husband built me an oak "flower vendor's cart" and it is not meant to hold soil, so I figured I would have to use many pots and would have to water them constantly. Then I thought about using the window boxes, so I ordered 2 of them and used them in the cart the last 2 seasons. They work like a charm, and I am including a photo of this year's display, which was vibrant all summer long. They're not just for windows anymore!

I bought 3 windowboxes 6 years ago and they are holding up beautifully. I had to find out by trial and error what grows best in spring and summer at the east side of the house, and to fill up the water reservoir regularly. In the winter I let the soil dry out and stick in some greenery and holly which attracks birds. I recently bought 2 smaller ones for deck railings. Hanging hardware is very versatile and sturdy.

I am so impressed by this product! The self watering system makes this window box idiot proof. Since this is my first season with this flower box I planted the same amount of flowers I did with my previous flower boxes. All the plants are watered evenly and flourishing. The flowers are overwhelmingly abundant. Next year I know I can use almost half the flowers and still have a beautiful display.

I debated for a year whether or not to buy the self-watering flower boxes. I finally did so this year, and am thrilled with the purchase. My flower's are so lush and have grown like crazy. I have received tons of compliments from all the neighbors -everyone wants to know what my secret is this year. I live alone and work full-time, so I absolutely love only having to water 1-2 times a week (depends on how hot it has been). The flower boxes are easy to install (I have them on wrought iron railings) and the water level indicator makes it easy to know when to water again. I highly recommend this product to anyone. I loved it so much, I also bought the self watering hanging baskets as well.

We have an 1889 home with a farmer's porch on the south and west-facing sides of the house. We have a very small plot so we use any area we can for
vegetables. We have well-developed perennials all around the foundations.
These window boxes sit on the outside of the porch railings and allow us
to plant glorious colorful annuals. Since they get so much sun, the
self-watering feature is critical.
We recommend these window boxes enthusiastically, although this is our
very first season with them so we can't comment on cracking/mildew, etc.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I bought two of these in 2008 so I'm on my third season with them. I have two of the 31" ones too. The two sizes perform similarly as far as I have seen. Don't be cheap on the potting mix you use in these. I highly recommend using the self-watering container mix that they sell because many other mixes are too heavy and won't dry (at least not here- maybe you wouldn't have to worry about that in a desert). Waterlogging has been a problem for the plants I put in boxes with heavier potting media, even with the overflow holes that are supposed to prevent waterlogging.

I would very much like to see Gardeners.com offer replacement water meters for these, as one of mine broke completely and the others don't seem to be measuring the water properly after a couple of years. The fill tube covers are also relatively breakable and one of mine has gone missing (maybe they should sell separate replacements for those too).

I purchased 2 of the 39" and 5 of the 31" planters for my porch rails and windows, and they look fantastic. They were a little tricky to install on our vinyl siding, but my hubby added some stripping to the brackets that worked well. The neighbors actually bring their guests to see our house, and a gardening club wants to use a picture for their calendar. For someone who'd killed a cactus, these planters make me feel like a professional landscaper. I would recommend the special potting soil for self-watering planters . . . my plants love it.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Boxes look great. Used in an urban setting on deck. Rather difficult to get planted boxes into brackets. Maybe they should have been installed & then planted.
Brackets were a huge pain to install. They had to be taken apart in order to access screw holes to attach to railing.

Our only negative comment would be that the plastic connector to the reservoir cap is flimsy and breaks easily... we own five (5) of these now, and only two (2) aren't broken - but, the up-side is that it is luckily not in any way vital to the function of the planter itself.

The window box is just about perfect... except for a visual feature... when it is hung in a location that the under side of the box is in view, the base does not have a smooth and solid appearance - it has the indented shapes of the plastic mold forms. I for see that once the plants grow and spill out and hang down over the out side of the window box it will be less distracting from the over all appearance.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I love these! I purchased two for our porch railing. I admit I love seasonal flowers, but I work full time and late hours, by the end of the season I usually regret planting so many. These boxes are great-I only have to fill them once or twice a week and my flowers look great. No more coming home to wilted plants and watering in the dark! We will be going on vacation in a few weeks and I am pretty sure my plants will be just fine until I get home! I do wish the support rods on the larger sized boxes were adjustable, it took some creativity in planting to get around the support rods, but they look great! They were easy to hang and the water indicator is easy to find and read - so keeping the boxes watered is simple! I wish I had found these earlier - and a lot of my previous annuals probably do too!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

This windowbox planter is sturdy and well-designed, and the 39" unit holds a lot of plants. I have a fairly typical deck railing with 2x6 cap rail and 2x2 spindles, and the brackets that come with this unit did not fit. I had to cut and install some 2x3 blocks in front of the spindles to provide a lower spot to attach the bracket. Added about an hour to the installation, but in the end, they are very sturdy and reasonably attractive. I also wish I had ordered the bronze or loden color instead of the terra cotta, which is just a bit too "orangy". I ordered two of these, and I'm missing the cap for one of the water fill tubes. I don't know if I misplaced it during installation, or if it was never in the box.

These windowboxes are excellent. They are much larger than anything I have found in the garden stores. Our deck is extremely hot and windy and the selfwatering feature helps to distribute water all day. I still have to water everyday, but at least the plants aren't wilted by the evening. I am thinking of buying the larger boxes for the deck floor.

My window boxes are difficult to get to, to water. I finally broke down and spent, what i thought was alot of $ for the boxes. IT WAS WELL WORTH IT AND I AM GLAD I DID. I can count the times i had to add water and my plants were beautiful.
I can (and have) highly recommend these boxes. Even though the price seems high compared to the $5 cheapies from box stores, they are well worth it. They will make our gardening life easier.

I bought this window box last year with a bag of the self-watering container mix. What an amazing invention! I think I only had to water maybe 3 times in 2 months! The container mix is a must with these types of containers. I left that container mix in it over the winter and just amended the soil when I planted petunias this year. They are exploding! And again...so far I have watered the box once or twice. Excellent product...especially for those who travel a lot during the summer. You will come back to ALIVE plants!

Everyone said a window box wouldn't work in hot, sunny southwest Florida during the summer, but I seem to have the happiest geraniums in the neighborhood, and quite possibly the only window box in town that holds moisture long enough for plants to survive. The heat does seem to soak out all the reservoir's content within about 3 days, while the specialized soil stays adequately damp for a day or 2 beyond. A well-chosen southeast window ledge, this window box, and the special soil is making me a happy experimenter so far!

Lush and beautiful! That is how my window boxes looked all summer long and well into the fall. We put up two side-by-side under a double front window. This side of the house only receives morning sun, so planted part shade annuals, non-stop begonia, coleus, sweet potato vine, variegated vinca vine, creeping jenny, butterfly impatiens, Persian shield, and petunia. During the hottest weeks I did need to fill the reservoir twice, but most of the summer I did not need to fill it but once a week or every other week. The self watering container mix is what I used and it kept my plants well fed and perfectly moist. I saw many other window boxes last summer with small plants, many half dead looking, the boxes only 1/2 filled with plants, which seems to be the norm since boxes dry out so quickly and most tend to be way too small and shallow. I am so thrilled to have found such a fabulous product! I have wanted window boxes under our front window since we moved in 10 years ago and now I finally have them and they are gorgeous! Mine filled up and out so much that they covered up the box! The cascading plants grew down to the ground!

I use the product as directed. I was pleased with the over-all appearance of the product. After installing them, however, I noticed that three of the four window boxes were chipped along the top edge of the side panels. I have noticed that several of the plants that I transplanted into the boxes have rotted from the roots being overly-moist. The water-level indicators have always been just below the "full" indicator. With this said, I think the product is over-priced and that it isn't any better than a regular "off the shelf" window box without the handy water indicators.

I love the self-watering feature and the water indicator which shows the level of water. I use a drip system to save me even more time. I have four of these hanging on my deck railings, growing lettuce, Swiss chard, and now starting strawberries. This is a great way to garden when deer are a problem and you don't want to fence your yard.
I do not have the brackets screwed to the deck railing but if I tried, the screw hole for the 2x4 supporting the railing would be low to use.

I have two sconces, outside my building, under the first floor windows, that I've laid a 2"x6"x84" plank of wood to hold rectangular flower pots, that I've made & bought.
By this time in the summer, the flowers would have long been dead and plenty of weeds taking their place; I've even tried artificial flowers, which blew away.
I am usually in the backyard and forget about the front, since there is a sprinkler system. So it makes me very happy to view my front and see flowers in the pots and thriving. The flowers are growing up and the vines down, it looks like a picture.
Today I was in a big hardware's yard section, looking for large pots to put on the ground in my backyard and I thought about my front pots and said, "get out of here and go order those self watering pots from Gardener's Supply".

Thank You,
Sharlette

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Certainly a nice design, but a little difficultly in using the included hardware to attach to a railing. I like the fact that I don't have to water the plants every day, but during hot days(95 to 100+ degrees) I do have to fill it every other day, so leaving it for a long weekend would not be a good idea. But the plants are thriving... My biggest problem was that the filler tube cap was not included. [...]

These window boxes are WONDERFUL! This is my 2nd set. I rent so couldn't attach them to the house but they look great on my porch railing. I live in a hot climate. The resevoir allows my flowers to be watered without drying out. The tube design for adding water and the float allows me to easily fill the resevoir and if I add too much, the pot will automatically drain.

this was the only windowbox that was the exact deminsions I needed. How did you know? I am very pleased with it. I filled it with bright colored petunias for the first planting and it is such a pleasure to look out of my bedroom window and see the perfect windowbox. It has a white arbor in front of the window covered in wisteria and this just finished off the look I wanted. Thank you so much. My son lives in Burlington and I come to your store when I am there. Have purchased other "treasures" in the past.

The description of the product did not indicate that it required power tools and a board to screw into. I looked at the pictures and found one that seemed to match my situation so I ordered the product, but was soooo disappointed that the planters could not be mounted. Having on the floor of the deck is not the same.
They do do a good job of keeping the plants alive.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

This windowbox needs another bracket to help hold up in the middle. My wall studs where bracket attached only left 3/4" of windowbox to hang over bracket. Nothing was mentioned that this windowbox should not be used over vinyl siding. I installed and box weight pushed in vinyl siding and one bracked bent from box weight.Thumb screws would not stay in position and box was hard to keep level. Finally cut a 15" x 4" cedar fence board, primed and painted and attached metal bracket to this board and screwed into wall stud using 3" screws. Also used lockwashers on thumbscrews as screws kept slipping and lockwashers fixed the problem. So if you install over vinyl siding, put wood over the vinyl and then install the bracket to keep vinyl from pushing in. If installing on wood siding, you should have no problems, but use lockwashers or the box may not keep level.

My husband and I purchased 4 windowboxes a few years ago for our porch rail. We live in SE NC and it gets pretty hot in the summer. These were the answer to keeping the geraniums looking great from April to November. We purchased another one for the tender herbs that I like to use. I hope the thyme doesn't wilt this summer. The boxes are convenient so that I can bring it in if the herbs need to come inside. We also purchased 4 hanging planters for our porch ferns this year. We'll keep your products in mind if we need any more planters.

Perfectly designed for decks because they are lightweight, but strong. You can hold off adding the water until you hang them for ease of lifting. Only problems were quality control and hardware design. We ordered nine to get seven, and had to order half again as many hangers because each needs two of the longer braces for the typical six inch railings on a deck. [...] they LOOK GREAT! I don't have to recommend these to a friend. I just have to let a friend SEE them and they self-recommend!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I had four of these window boxes (white) mounted on the front of my home for about 10 years before I sold it. They made my home look so beautiful, especially at the holidays and during the winter months. These boxes were perfect for me because my plants always flourished and lazy me didn't have to water plants very often. I dreaded leaving the windowboxes on the house when I moved, but I felt they belonged there. Nowadays when I drive by the house I see that the window boxes still look just as new as the day I first installed them, only the new homeowner does not care or know how to decorate them nearly as nice. I unfortunately cannot have my house back, but I recently bought myself two new boxes to mount on the small ranch house I now rent, and they've actually restored a sense of comfort and joy in my new home, not to mention my landlady is also very pleased with them. I highly recommend these windowboxes to anyone who enjoys floral design and who takes pride in beautifying their home, both when looking at the house from the street as well as when inside the house and looking out.

I used the windowboxes to create a pleasant garden effect along two ledges by the windows.
Along with the 39" I purchased one 24" and two 31" to complete the line of plantings. They look wonderful and give me a sense of garden. We live in a condo and all the outside plantings are taken care of by the Association, so no chance to have flowers except in those windowboxes. So nice that I do not have to water them daily, which usually ends up overwatering some.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

This is an attractive planter and it does have the capacity to self water. What you should know is that it is NOT for metal railings. This fact was not written anywhere in the catalog or on the website (to my knowledge). I had to buy hardware brackets to mount the planter (and not just screws, but the whole bracket assembly) on my wrought iron railing. The bracket I bought had two assembly options, one for metal railings which had a curve to fit and another type of mounting hardware for a different set up. I would recommend that this hardware be designed the same, otherwise state plainly that this is not for metal railings. I set it up anyway, but it is not level therefore the self watering function is all off kilter. I decided it was too much trouble to return it, but I wouldnt recommend it for a metal railings.

Best Uses:

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Makes growing plants a snap, minimizing the time spent on maintenance. The brackets, on the other hand, are carbon steel, and although painted will corrode in a couple of years. A little more spent on the use of corrosion resistant materials would greatly enhance the long-term appearance of the product.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

The water gauge was stuck when it arrived and it took several strong taps to get it loose. Easy to fill with water and the filler cap keeps mosquitoes and other bugs out. I did have some problems assembling the mounting bracket. There were no instructions for it. After a couple of failed attempts, I figured it out. It sets far enough away from the side of the house so that I won't have to worry about rot. Overall it seems to be a very good planter.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I love beautiful lush window boxes! After Christmas I feel like my home has lost it's "sparkle" and window boxes give me that all year long. The only problem is when I come up the driveway, starting in about June, instead of magnificent lime green sweet potato vines and vibrant scarlet geraniums, my widow boxes were wilted and starving. I had to water almost twice everyday, and if I didn't, I felt guilty for letting them suffer. That's when I started researching self-watering planters on the web. Some of them looked really fancy but were waaaay out of my budget. Then I ran across the self-waterers on Gardner's Supply. I was a little skeptical (it's my nature). I've been gardening for 30 years and never ran across anything like this. [...] I was willing to gamble. After rounding up my brother and his drill, and spending about 30 minutes on that west facing front porch in the afternoon, I understood why my plants were in such poor condition every afternoon! But a month later, I have only watered my window boxes once or twice a week (they don't get any rain because of the porch) and the plants are lush and beautiful, just the way I love them! Bottom line, these boxes aren't as beautiful as the [$] window boxes, but who cares? My plants cover up the boxes entirely! Thanks Gardner's Supply!

My window boxes look great, and don't require daily watering. Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I like the capacity of the window box in that although it doesn't look big, it will take an adequate amount of soil with manure added for the plants one would want in the space.

The self-watering feature works for much of the box, but I have found there to be drier areas such that I find myself adding water to the soil.
It's a good item to have if one knows that regular watering isn't always possible.

I wish I had purchased these years ago. We took down old wood window boxes 15 years ago because I could never get anything to grow. These are wonderful. Well worth the cost of this product, these windowboxes perform much better than your standard everyday boxes whether purchased or homemade. They will keep plants well watered for a longer period and plants absolutely love growing in these boxes. The plants have never been healthier (Wave Petunias) and they are plants that can consume a lot of water on hot, sunny days.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

At first I wasn't sure I would like these, but they have turned out to be really terrific. They hold a lot of water, which makes them heavy (not for light railings), but the built-in water gauge is ingenious, and the fill spout large enough to avoid spilling a lot. We travel frequently, and it's nice to not have to worry at least about the outdoor plants

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

When we moved into our new home a big concern was how to keep the two windowboxes (one in front, one in back yard) from falling off the walls, they were not looking too sturdy and a neighbor had warned us that if we used real flowers, the dirt would drip down and make a mess on the sidewalk and patio. My husband anchored them and painted them and two of your largest self watering window boxes fit inside each one perfectly! No mess, no damage to existing wooden
windowboxes, and flowers galore!

You won't find a better window box for this price. I'm horrible at watering my containers, so this is a flower-saver! In my environment, I only have to water it every few weeks. Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

So far, this has worked well during this year's drought and early watering ban. I simply fill the reservoir with (relatively clean) waste water collected in a bowl from the kitchen sink. It is heavy when loaded with dirt & water, but the brackets hold it just fine. You do have to put four heavy duty screws into the house. Haven't stored it yet for the winter, and not sure how I'll like seeing the empty brackets, but we'll see.

I have had a window box for years and despite my best effort the plants just barely survive these 98 degree days in Georgia. These new window boxes are great! I only water every 3 days and the plants are thriving and I don't have to put my finger in the soil to check for moisture, I love the floats that tell me at a glance when I need to water. I needed inserts for my iron window boxes and found these interesting because of the water reservoir. My pots generally dry out on our hot days and I am always looking for ways to avoid losing flowers. I must admit, when they arrived I was leary. The boxes themselves were beautiful and sturdy, but how was the moisture to stay in the soil and not in the bottom of the pot. It works!! In 90+ days, I am only watering once per week. Unbelievable! I highly recommend it.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I have recommended these so very often as well as purchased for gifts. I just love mine at 4 of my windows, still raising color and my flowers for indoor enjoyment at higher windows in my cottage home.

When I first moved in, before remodeling with my now open to the floor and earth "garden room" views, these boxes were a divine relief from living "confined." I had had to stand at an open door or at a window to enjoy my flowers and yard. I think anyone who loves flowers, plants, and gardening as I do, can relate if they have had to be separated from such joys. All homes, personal and retirement, would benefit all by bringing nature so carefreely up close and personal. Watering is needed only every 1 - 1 1/2 weeks...even in high summer dry heat, so when I travel, care is minimal for others as well. With even the North window sun exposures varying, I can also keep growth even by switching the boxes from window to window. What more can I say? I just love these boxes and mine have already lasted three summers and no repainting!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I have 4 of these on my porch set up with a drip irrigation system hooked to a rainbarrel. I view the resevoir as backup for really windy dry days. It was a bit of a puzzle to figure out the correct configuration for the hanging supports (no instructions included), but they are quite sturdy, considering the amount of weight these hold. My one complaint is the fill tube for the resevoir is in the middle of the box, and the plants have overgrown it; This makes it difficult to read the marker or fill it up without damaging the plants.

I thought I was really going to like this, but I've been having a hard time figuring out what plants I can use. They are all beautiful at first, but they die--rot, I think. I've used pansies, petunias, impatiens, vinca major and asparagus fern. The asparagus fern is the only thing that seems to do well. I haven't had to pull out the impatiens yet, so maybe I have something that will work, BUT, I have quit "filling" the reservoir--I just water it like a normal pot--but the reservoir DOES keep the water from draining on the deck. I LOVE the flowers outside my kitchen window (when they are "new") and I haven't given up yet, but I'm getting closer to calling. I recommended them at first, but now am backing off that recommendation.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

My window boxes are filled with plants that love water. In Missouri the summer heat usually requires containers to be watered 2x a day. The reservior in the window boxes lets weeks go by in the spring and days go by in the summer without having to add water. The Begonias are the biggest I've ever grown! I have even rooted some cuttings without rooting hormone and watched them grow into great healthy plants. The 39" boxes did so well, I bought 5 more 31" boxes for my deck. I am replacing regular window boxes that require watering 2x a day. Even in the direct sun, the window boxes perform awesomely! My thirteen year old daughter is in charge of watering since I am out of town during the week. She loves them and wants all my containers to be the same as the window boxes so she wouldn't have to water as often. They are the best product you sell!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I have found the self-watering feature to be fabulous for our dry, hot summers in Colorado. Just keep the reservoir above the minimum fill line and it works even in direct sun. It is heavy once it is filled with dirt and water, so be sure you have it where you want it before putting anything in it. The only drawback I have seen is that the arm braces are not designed for thin rails (short side of a 2x4 inch). So, I had to use the braces a little differently than designed. They are holding but on one side the nut and bolt are not holding the braket in place tightly so it keeps slipping. So it is nearly perfect!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I have about 30 planters going this year. Two are these self watering window boxes. The plants in these boxes are by far better than any others. I plan to add more of these self watering planters every year.

My only complaint was that when they came the cross braces were difficult to remove and put in place. I ended up breaking the first one I tried to remove.

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I hung the boxes in front of my garage windows. I am not really happy with the amount of water that remains in the box after it rains. They do have drains but I killed a whole box full of plants after a few major rains. The soil was so wet and the box was almost completly full of water. The plants were new and eventually died. The other box had the same water issue and the plants are fine. Who knows!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I used these window boxes on the back deck of my house. I didn't want water to drain on the wood deck every time I watered, and this solves that problem. Once you fill up the boxes, you can go a long time between waterings, which is great, and the plants still have consistent moisture. I wish all my planters were like this.

I love to travel. With this window box, I can go away for 5 or more days during the hottest time of summer and not worry that my window box plants will be dead. I never have to water the planter everyday as I did before. It is also a beautiful addition to the house and matches my green shutters perfectly!

Comments about 39" Self-Watering Windowbox:

The convenience of the water well sounds like a great idea but the plants stayed soggy most of the time. Have grown very little and some have even died within the first month of planting. Perhaps there is a key to this that i have not figured out yet... still hopeful.
