Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I bought this window box to use on my deck for lettuce, herbs and strawberries. It sits on the deck railing and fits perfectly. It is very sturdy and well made and it holds plenty of water without the plants being soggy unless I overwater it, and then it drains. I move them if it is very windy or rainy so that they won't be damaged. These are far better quality than the Big Box stores and nicer looking. I'm very happy with these window box planters.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I purchased 5 of these window boxes in various sizes. I am very pleased with them. They work well, and eliminate the need for constant watering. My windows look beautiful! My only concern is that when they are full of soil, plants and water they are very heavy. The bracket support system seems to work well, but I worry about the weight - especially with the 39" box. Perhaps it needs 3 brackets to distribute the weight. Would definately recommend these to others.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

This window box is lovely and durable and best of all, it comes in a wonderful variety of colors. The only drawback I find is that the self watering spout is in the way of arranging the plants the way you would like. I managed to plant around it, but would rather it was on the side of the planter instead of nearly in the middle. Otherwise, it's a great product, and I would buy another.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

This window box was easy to assemble and fit our needs perfectly. Our only suggestion is to tone down the orange in the terra cotta color and use a bit more earthy clay tone mixed in. Overall, it is a great product, especially for cottages where we week-enders can't water during the week. This has the built in watering system. Win-win. Thanks, Debi Shatzer

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Wonderful product, but if left out in winter, the plastic will deteriorate faster. The weakest part is the water gauge, which will crack and come apart in a couple of seasons. They are replaceable, but not cheap. The large tomato and box type self-watering planters have gauges with very flimsy tops that often don't close properly and crack quickly. Prepare to replace those every season or two.

I like to grow my kitchen herbs just outside my back door in a window box. For years I've used a terra cotta window box that dried out daily in Dallas weather. This year I purchased the self-watering window box. It's absolutely brilliant! I fill it on the weekends and enjoy cooking with my herbs all week. Best of all, my herbs are growing better than any time in the past. I love it! I'll be adding more self-watering containers to my deck for flowers.

I live in Arizona ... and You know what I mean if You live here. It's almost impossible to keep a potted plant outside looking nice in the summer. Ya, water it and then it's soon dry again and the plant isn't looking so good. This keeps the plant watered and looking good. The bottom line is .. it works and is easy to set up. I'm going to buy more.

I don't . . . these boxes just makes it look like I'm a master gardener. I'm a pyrotech and haven't had much time to water lately. During this very dry, hot period here in the northeast, my flowers thrived. I would HIGHLY recommend the potting soil for self-watering planters. It drains well and my plants love it.

My summer annuals always suffered from my aversion to really hot humid weather: I just couldn't make myself go out and water! With these windowboxes, I can keep my petunias going strong (including fertilizing them) all summer til frost. My only complaint is that the floats broke after a few winters and I have to eyeball how much water I need, but you can do this easily.

I bought this for my niece, who is not known for watering her plants. I have been overwintering her geraniums in my sunroom for several winters now and they busted out of the original planter, so I bought this for her, transplanted the geraniums in it and they now are filling a window sill outside at her place of business, a beauty shop.
The customers are amazed at how long we have been able to keep these plants going. I give it a 'brush cut' along about mid- March, along with a handful of compost, water her and she takes off with new growth.
At the same time I bought one for myself and the plants in it are doing very well.
I like the sturdiness of the planter and the watering tube with the moisture indicator.

These window boxes are extremely well made. My husband installed them over our porch railings and they were very easy to assemble and install.
They have only been up for about a month now, but so far my plants are growing beautifully. Our porch gets very hot afternoon sun so I'm reserving judgement on the self watering feature as it has been a very cool and wet spring here. I expect, though, that they will perform very well.

I live and breath gardening in the summer in Maine. I recently added a garden shed to my backyard and knew I had to have window boxes. I saw the Gardeners Supply window boxes and knew I had found exactly what I wanted.

I produce a garden show in Maine and I did an entire show demonstrating the window boxes and showed the wonderful flowers that I grew the first time ever in my three new window boxes. I have to say I was thrilled with the product and how it performed.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I love this window box. It looks good; it is easy to use; it is easy to fill and it's easy to see when it needs to be filled. There is nothing more I would want in a window box, unless it watered itself. I use it outside my brownstone window. My only complaint is that it only comes in two sizes, and I would like it larger than this one, but smaller than the large size.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

We hung two of these boxes on our elevated deck, and while one did fine, the other one doesn't hold water in its resevoir. Now the planters (and their plants) have been brought in for the winter, and the one that doesn't hold water is continually filling up a tray we were forced to place beneath it. In all other respects, these planters have performed well, and they look very nice. I consider this a mixed review, not a negative one.

Cons:
Fill tube placement
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Just got the new window box planters expecting them to be like the old ones and am very disappointed. The fill tube is huge and right in the middle of the growing area. The old ones had the fill tube at the end of the planter and was small but at least it didn't take up so much growing room and was at the end of the planter out of the way. Still deciding if I will send them back. I use the old ones to grow things in my sun room and they work great for lettuces and other greens. These are not up to the ones I already have!

I use these for my indoor winter vegetable garden in my sun room. I grow chard, lettuce, salad greens, onion, and beans in them. They make it easy to keep consistent moisture to the vegetables. I have just ordered a couple more for a constant supply of salad for the winter. I don't have them on windows but they work great under grow lights.

I installed my window boxes within 2 weeks of receiving them. I am not handy dandy with tools, but I had no trouble using the strong hardware to install my window boxes to my cute little shed. I wish you could see the plants that grow in these self watering window boxes. They are lush, need very little watering and I believe the window boxes will last for years.

I bought three of these planters for my 71" front window as I couldn't find a window box to fit as well as be economical. They are planted but not installed as yet. They seem sturdy and I like the self-watering feature. The only issue now is that the window boxes are going to sit a bit low under the window because of our lap siding on the house.

I am really enjoying this product. I used to water and watch it drain out the bottom without really soaking the soil. Or I worried whether I needed to water or did I water enough?...now, I don't have those concerns anymore. The only thing that is difficult about it: once your flowers are growing like crazy - they've covered up the gauge and it can be difficult to find and read - but I'm not complaining that my plants are that huge! I would recommend this product HIGHLY!

Pros:
Attractive Design, Drains Well, Holding Capacity
Cons:
Deteriorates/Rots
Best Uses:

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

Excellent window boxes as far as tray construction, self-watering design & capacity and overall appearance; however, the water level tubes and glass level indicators have all broken and not from misuse. Plastic tubes are too fragile, as are the level indicators. Also, the plastic cap which goes over the fill hole is attached to the tray by a thin, curled plastic strip. This easily breaks off at the cap end. In addition, if potting soil material gets into the fill hole, the float mechanism will not work and register properly.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I purchased 3 of the 23" window boxes in white for my deck railing. I use two boxes for flowers and 1 box for herbs. These self watering window boxes are perfect for me the "Lazy" gardener, I love flower boxes, but I do not always have time to maintain/water them, these boxes are the perfect solution. They look great on my deck, the white box really allows the color of the flowers to pop. The only issue I had was securing the brackets to my deck railing/post. Very sturdy brackets are included (lesser quality ones are sold at home stores for [$], these are much better and match the planter boxes) I could not put screws in my deck rails so I used zip ties and it worked great to secure the brackets to my deck railing.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I love the self-watering feature. A different brand of self-watering box that I bought 3 of last year (from Gardener's) had more convenient (in the corner) and smaller fill tubes and a much sturdier method of hanging was offered separately. I had to purchase a support system elsewhere for this year's boxes to avoid drilling holes into our artificial deck material

I substituted these window boxes for the ones offered with the shed I purchased. I have healthy, living plants in these window boxes, since they have a reservoirs that provide consistent watering. The shed is far from the house. Without this system, I know I would have wasted money on plants that would have died from lack of water.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

We get a lot of sun in our yard that will typically fry my window boxes if you forget to water. When its hot, several times a day may be required to keep the plants looking nice rather than becoming crispy-plants. The gauge is easy to keep track of when they should be filled, my plants are very happy, they look great on the house-and you can go camping and not worry about your plants. They replaced pine windowboxes with moisture control potting soil.

We have seven of these self-watering windowboxes on the front windows of our vacation home in New Hampshire. We can fill the resevoirs when we leave on Sunday, and they keep the flowers well watered until we return on Friday. Our windowboxes are gorgeous, the flowers just keep coming, and look beautiful all summer. This is the second year we have used these windowboxes and they have been fabulous each year. We use the Gardener's Supply self-watering soil mix as well with wonderful results. I can't say enough good things about these windowboxes - if you want color all summer, use them!

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

I have a container garden on my deck at my summer place on the lake (with your other self-watering products) and added the window boxes this year. I planted beans in them and, with S-hooks and tacks installed lines of twine from the front lip of the boxes up to the overhang, eight plants in each box. The beans look beautiful running up the twine, they get maximum sun but are protected by the roof overhand from the pummelling thunder storms we have had this June in NH, yet perfectly watered with the self-watering feature. Awesome design for a summer place which isn't frequented much at the beginning of the growing season but just enough to water once in awhile before moving in!

Can't say anything bad about a planter that waters itself! You only need to add water to the reservoir every few days, while the soil always stays nice and moist. It's so much easier than trying to pour water over all the dirt in the container, while splashing it all over your feet as it runs off the flowers! I'm all for anything that makes life this simple and saves time.

Comments about 23" Self-Watering Windowbox:

The self watering window boxes came practically assembled so in no time I was ready to plant my annuals. The brackets were a little more complicated but once you figure out the first one, the rest are assembled very quickly The only down side of these window boxes is that they are quite narrow I believe 6 inches and there are a couple of cylinders that protrude in the interior of the box which limits to some extent the number of plants it will hold via a vis other conventional window boxes. But I'm okay with that since the built in reservoir mechanism effectively keeps the plants from drying out. Makes watering a lot more manageable.
