advertised as self watering. Mine came without this feature. They are cute, but overpriced, especially considering I didn't get self watering ones. They are just tin pots.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Over all, it is really pretty, but the SW part was really difficult to assemble and didn't work well, so I ended up just using without the self watering feature.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
These are perfect for anchoring to our wood railings. I do not use the self watering pieces - just drilled a couple holes at the bottom for drainage. Easy to paint and the simple design does not detract from the plants. I originally ordered 2, they did the job so well I ordered 10 more!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The pot is too tall and narrow for the self-watering feature to function. It would only work with plants with long, developed root systems, and even that would take some time to fully function.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The size and function would be great but don't expect it to look like the pictures. In a very short time the nice copper color was gone and now I see rust spots in less than a season.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I didn't like self watering system, had to figure out myself. Pots looked great on my fence, but some plants dried out too fast and others didn't drain and plants drowned, even though I drilled hole in bottom as instructed. Would recommend not using self waterer and put in other draining options. Love the look though
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The whole system is difficult to figure out, there are no instructions that come with the pots. They hold to much water, you must drill holes through the bottom of the sap bucket as well as the water holding device, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the self water aspect of this item. They turned white almost right away, I am hoping they weather much better then I think they will.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
It took awhile to assemble the self-watering features, although the directions were easy enough to follow. I like the way they look, I don't think the self-watering feature is very reliable however, I continue to have to water the plants despite there being water in the reservoir below. The soil on top still gets dry quickly, not sure why.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Very, very pleased with how well my summer flowers are growing and overflowing these containers. Really gives a "country feel" to my garden fence.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have grown plants for more than 40 years. I have yet to have any plant survive in this container for more than a couple days. The container is lovely to look at, but has not functioned as described.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I love how this planter looks and thought that the self-watering feature was a great idea. The only problem is that the water in the reserve stays there and doesn't keep the plant soil moist. I was hoping not to have to water everyday or sometimes twice a day, but I do. Maybe when the roots develop it will work. The next time I use the containers I'm going to include some type of wick to draw the water up to the soil.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have two of these hanging on my fence and the petunias are loving them. I don't worry about them getting dried out. They are useful and attractive, a very good purchase.

We have a tall back fence in our small urban garden and it always needed something to spice it up. These buckets are just the thing! And we love how they tied in all the other copper accents together in our small yard!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I'm growing multi color nasteriums in the copper color bucket mounted on a porch post. It's really lovely and I plan to get a couple more.
On the down side, the self watering apperatus needs to be put together and there are no directions or drawings included. I ended up throwing out the long thin 'thingy' and only just now realized how it should be used..... by viewing a photograph in the catalog.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Planters look great on my fence by my driveway.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
These sap buckets look adorable on my white picket fence. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because the watering tube on one of them does not close properly.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The self water fill tube site to low.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Usually a planter such as this dries out fast in the sun. Because it has it's own reservoir of water the plants will stay healthy longer and allow a beautiful display where ever you locate it.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Last year's model, which is very similar to this year's, was completely rusted out this spring--after a single year's use! They looked great for that one year, though. These would perhaps do better inside the house.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
It's one of several "self-watering" items that I am delighted to own from Gardener's Supply

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
We have a driveway with a white picket fence alongside it, and I thought these sap buckets would dress it up. I bought 3 and affixed them to the fenceposts with a long screw, which has held them well. I was a bit confused by the self watering system set up instructions, they were not very clear, but I "winged it" and it seems fine. My plants grew pretty big and lush (celosia, petunias and sage) and it was nice to not worry about watering the containers daily in the hot summer. I left the planters out there this winter, and filled them with greenery, pinecones and added a decorative swag to the front, and they are the perfect holiday touch as you come up our driveway. I would buy more of these for other areas of our garden, as I love the look against the picket fence.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I plan to try these again next year and will plant the plants much deeper in the pot. They dried out very easily and I ended up having to water them every day (even when the reservoir was full). These pots have a hole punched in the side for hanging, but come with nothing to hang them with. They look great, though!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Very attractive, but the self-watering system is poor. The system is not the one described in the directions and does not self-water until the roots have had time to grow to the bottom. Also, for drainage, instructions tell you to drill holes in bottom. Annoying. Nonetheless, I have 3 of the buckets, filled with flowers, mounted on my weathered fence, and they are stunning!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Like most people we are not using the self watering feature because it did not drain at all and the plants were stooping in water. We drilled holes in the bottoms. They look really nice but they are not self watering. I'd have to say this is pricey for a plant container.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I really like this planter. I have a small terrace and I have this hanging on my railing to maximize the space for gardening. It has been great thus far.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I bought two of these "sap buckets" -- one to use as a vase on my back porch -- the other as a planter -- they look great -- I think they're wonderful!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I love the look of them and while the design was pretty self explanatory, the cover to the water reservoir kept popping off whenever I would push it down into the container. It only happened to one of the three buckets I purchased, so it may have just been a problem with one of the clips. The tube was also a little unwieldy. Once that was done (all in all, only 20-25 minutes to assemble 3 buckets), they were easy to put up on my fences and brighten up the side of my yard to much - I really love them.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Assembly of plastic grid into pail and attachment of water fill tube were difficult. Tube is TOO SHORT for the bucket, when it is firmly attached to the grid. Once securely installed, top of fill tube is 3 inches below rim of bucket. It was hard to plant annuals and stay away from cap on fill tube. Potting soil ended up covering the cap, which will make filling the tube with water very difficult.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
after filling the reservoir, we had a few days of rain. my daughter was taking care of the gardening for us while we were away, and she didn't know that the water could build up and cause the plant to rot. i've pourd out the water, but i'm not sure the plants will recover.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
We found the instructions less than adequate about how to put together and use the watering features of the sap buckets. Some attention to this would be greatly helpful to future purchasers.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Looks really great on the front of my garage!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I love the way the planters look on my fence. I haven't been able to tell if they are really self-watering since it has been raining for the past few weeks. The instructions were somewhat confusing on how to put the planter together. Overall, I am really pleased with the planters.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I purchased this product a couple of years ago, the water reserve and assembly has changed, I am not for sure if I like the newer design.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
love the product. However, they were packed so tightly inside each other that I had a very difficult time separating them in the packing box
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The two pots I purchased look lovely on the fence in my garden. I couldn't figure out where the water indicator, long white tube with styrofoam on one end, went until I called customer service. I think adding written instructions and diagrams would help. I have high hopes that everything will work like it should and I will have beautiful flowers hanging on my fence.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Very decorative, flowers grow well.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have it on a covered porch and I put house plants in it for the summer. It's much larger than pictured. Good quality. Easy to assemble. I also bought one to give as a gift.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
These look really nice on my white fence. Now I will wait and see how the plants do in the hot July weather!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have 3 lined along my fence. I can see them from the house and are also visible from the street. Just love them!!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I love this bucket and can't wait to get flowers in it and hang it on my fence. However, putting it together is a problem. When I called customer service they told me they can't get the longer tubes anymore so now you get a short tube that will in no way reach to above the soil line - all bad! At the suggestion of the customer service agent, I've placed some pebbles in the bottom of the bucket to raise the level of the reservoir and make this system work. It certainly is not perfect but hopefully it will be worth it. I plan to hang the buckets on fence posts of my cedar fence above flower beds. Can't wait to see how they look!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I bought this product for my daughter and me. I love how it looks! Planned to give it to her, filled, for Mother's Day. However, my husband and I tried to figure out how to put the self-watering pieces in today for one hour, and neither one of us could figure it out. We are not stupid people, but one must need to be an engineer to figure it out. [...] We finally figured out we were sent the wrong self-watering device for this sap bucket, plus something we didn't need. No wonder we couldn't figure it out!!! We were trying to follow the instructions that came with it, but you ABSOLUTELY NEED ILLUSTRATIONS to go with them. We didn't know one piece from another and finally got out the catalog and saw that the self-watering device we had wasn't what was shown in the catalog. I really can't rate it until I see how it works this summer. I hope it works better than the instructions that came with it!! Please, please, for other customers' sake, get some illustrations in the instructions, labeled with the names of the parts. I would recommend it to a friend only if you improve the instructions.

I hang the buckets on my front and back gates, loaded with plants that spill over the side and plants that are summer proof here in Texas--the ice plant cometh.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
This is the planter I have been looking for to use at my fence and wild flowers are perfect in it. Thanks
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
These sap buckets are authentic looking and should be beautiful once my flowers start growing!!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Looked great hanging in a corner of the fence that gets sun up top but not on the bottom... easy way to add some color with perenials.
It took me a minute, however, to figure out how to hang it and set it all up.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
One of the best I have owned. Bought this one for my daughter who loved mine last year and you were out of them
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
When you walk up the path to our back deck, the color of the flowers in these pots just HIT you! I've had so many peop0le ask me where I got them. Just can't tell you how HAPPY I am with the easy maintenance, quick to put up each year, and the overall warm and inviting look it give our deck.
I've NEVER been disappointed by anything I've purchased from you.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I bought five of the sap buckets and have put cascading flowers in them to beautify the cedar fence. They look fantastic; I made sure I drilled a hole in the bottom so that they would drain well after a heavy rain.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
They add so much color to a drab fence behind my pool. It has been such a bad area to plant in since it is difficult to reach. The self-watering feature should reduce watering to once a week. I have had your window boxes for years now and love them. During the hot dry season here in Miami I am the only one with beautiful color!! The envy of many neighbors! My homeowners association is purchasing your big planters for the front of our development. They now see the value of your self-watering containers!!!!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I think you should throw out the self watering system... drill holes in the bottom and sell it for less :) It's very pretty!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I am currently using the sap bucket as a free standing planter, which I have situated under a bird bath. It adds a very rustic touch.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I should be a professional gardner.I've been gardening since I was a child helping my mother. This container is the best and so attractive that it fits in the smallest places and you can add flowers anywhere,I had empatients in this in the sun on my mailbox last summer. It was magnificant.Winter was on it's way and they were still in full bloom.I didn't want to take it down. You can put such a wonderful display of flowers in here. I love it and plan on getting more this year. This had no drainage holes so I added my own. I just love it.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I plant Impatiens in them and you can see the pots and flowers from my neighbors house! Everyone comments on how beautiful they are. Our back deck (which is in the woods) really stands out with color! What a great invention. I have 4 and I'm ordering 2 more.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I and my husband have several of these buckets that
create a beautiful design in the garden section of our restaurant serving comfortable food.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I bought two and have thoroughly enjoyed them in my backyard deck area. The self-watering aspect is fantastic. I would certainly consider buying as a gift.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I love this pot. It is my first self watering product and it works great. The pot was much bigger than I expected it to be. I love it!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I was going to use this as a hanging self-watering planter, but found that the sturdy bottom works well as a space filler in the garden as other annuals die out. I like being able to move this self watering container -with it's arrangement of a grape tomato plant and nasturtiams - around in my garden. The metal is a nice contrast with the green leaves and brown soil of the garden.

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The picture showed this planter being used over a gate, but then did not come with any kind of hook or device for adhering it to the gate. Also, the pieces were inside another item so I was confused as to the use. No directions were included. I'm a bit disappointed. But with flowers the planters are very attractive.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have 2 of them hanging from a post with trailing plants -- they appear to give off a different color dependent on the intensity of the light they receive
Very happy with them as they are unique and can fit with a variety of garden and patio themes
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have two and they hang on my backyard fence. They really brighten it up. And I don't have to water every day as I used to.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
This sap bucket is too cute!! Self watering is the best thing for the busy gardener!!! I only wish that the water indicator was like that of the window box planters. I highly recommend all self watering containers for better looking and healthier plants!!!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
This item is simply adorable, but I found that there are no drainage holes and if it is hung in an area where it receives rain as well as the self-watering, it can quickly become waterlogged.
I resolved this problem by drilling a few small holes in the sides just above the water storage area for the self-watering feature.
Overall, it is a nice product and I would recommend it with that one improvement.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
A lovely accent to my garden gate and inner walls.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Looks good on the fence of my faux Italian garden in MD!

Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I Love the Sap Buckets. The only problem is they don't drain well. I have other self watering products and they work fine, but the design is different on this one. It seems the "resevoir" covers the whole bottom and doesn't allow excess water to drain out. I had to add my own drain holes in the bottom of the sap bucket for the overflow. If I didn't the flowers stayed too wet. I STILL LOVE THEM!!!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Self-watering device is cheap. Need a cover on water spout and a water level indicator. Not worth price paid.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I have 2 sap buckets on my front porch railing planted with ivy geraniums--looking good!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Classic sap bucket looks with a great self watering feature! This is a total winner!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
A wonderful addition to any garden. I have one by my front door and one in a tree. I filled them with bright pink impatiens and lime green creeping jenny. They really stand out. I've had many wonderful comments from people passing by. They are really easy care, just fill the tank every so often and let them bloom. I love them!
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I was very pleased upon receiving this! It was much bigger than it appeared! I have petunia's vining out of mine now. The only thing I will do next year is add a vine to drap down it. LOVE the self watering feature too!! My friend ordered one too.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
The quality of the item is good but difficult to use for growing plants.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I love how I can add color to wherever I want - I just hang them on the fence outside of a window and voila'... instant color. I change them around from kitchen window viewing to the fence outside the front door to greet guests.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
Plants died immediately - not what I thought
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
this sap bucket has allowed me to add flowers to an otherwise sunny and hot front porch. the self-watering reservoir allows me to forget about maintenance for up to 2 weeks.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I painted the sap buckets tomato red, planted blue plants in the buckets and hung them on the backyard fence which is painted a soft gold. A great Tuscan look.
Comments about Self-Watering Sap Bucket Planters:
I bought this as a gift to my mom who is the most dedicated gardener I know. She loves the classic look of it and the fact that it is low maintenance. It was a great price for a lovely planter!
