Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

These self-watering containers are terrific! They hold many plants and look beautiful. The water container is large enough that I can water every other day (unless it is extremely hot & then I must refill more frequently). We have a terrace that gets lots of sun and wind and my flowers look lovely in this planter.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I live in a townhouse with an association with lots of covenants restricting what I can do. Since this stand and planter is not permanently affixed to anything this product fits my needs perfectly. It adds nice eye appeal and looks attractive. The two-tiered stand fits perfectly just under my window and the stand is innocuous enough to not look out of place with other plantings. It is easy to put the stand together, it uses only two screws. But, the joints came apart very easily when I tried to put the planter in place. I used black electrical tape, or duct tape would work, to tape each joint - which was a little tedious - but now the unit has much greater stablility and allows me to adjust its placement. The window boxes fit the stand perfectly and the water reservoir is a very useful feature. I'm considering buying a second one next spring.

Good and bad
By RobVerified Purchaser from Redondo Beach, CA on 2/24/2011
Pros:
Attractive Design, Drains Well, Holding Capacity
Cons:
Expensive for value, Flimsy
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I've only had them for a couple of weeks. The boxes themselves seem like they work well enough. The rack is lacking. Assembly is essentially male/female square couplings but with nothing holding them together but friction. You can put the whole thing together, sans boxes, pick it up by the top and have the whole bottom fall apart. For me, it's not like to be moved, but pretty shabby construction for the price paid. You pay a lot of money for the concept but I bet the frame and molded plastic boxes cost only a few dollars to actually make.

I can't speak to how well it will hold up. The boxes look like they will work well for my herbs and peppers. Still worth recommending if you don't mind paying too much.

Great but Don't use as self watering

Cons:
Doesn't self water well, Too much water
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I bought two of these to create an indoor winter garden in front of a slider by our wood stove. Unfortuantely I intended to use the self watering feature to cut back on watering time. However, the design kept the dirt too wet causing some of my seedlings to drown, some of my plants to rot, and invite the wonderful gnats that love wet soil. I have since stopped using that feature and water as I see fit and my gnats are gone and the plants are starting to recover. Overall a great addition as a pot set up. (I'll soon have fresh cucumbers and cherry tomatoes from my set up. And already have lots of fresh herbs and peppers)

We wanted something to add beauty outside of our new spa room. This was a perfect choice. Our area is quite windy. We planted flowers "off" the ground and the item rests against our pavilion shed nicely. We get both the beauty of the arrangement, neatness of the shelves, and yet is easy to weedeat around the bottom posts to keep our yard looking grand. Thanks

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

We had a deck built this year and wanted attractive planters to display annuals and herbs. The self-watering planter boxes are attractive and practical since they can be moved as needed to either follow or avoid the sun. We were so pleased with the first box that we bought a second one, and they look very nice displayed either side by side, separated, or at right angles.

We have 10 different herbs growing in the three tiers. They are thriving; I have had to thin several times already. I believe this is in part due to the consistent water availability to the roots. The water level indicator seems fairly accurate.
We have had several compliments regarding how attractive the planter looks. It has been a perfect addition to our garden.

Great patio garden solution

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I have lately restricted my gardening ambitions to patio pots because of health reasons. This planter is an attractive solution for a space saving garden. The raised boxes minimize bending, maximize sun exposure and are very good looking. Yes, the stand is flimsy, as some have reported, but that is by design. Only gravity holds the support together, but the advantage is the whole thing can be broken down and nested for winter storage.

My planters now hold a variety of herbs and some pepper plants. The water capacity is excellent, and the plants are thriving--the peppers set blossoms in less than two weeks. I've very pleased with this purchase.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I wanted to try growing cherry tomatoes and basil. Being disabled, a self-watering planter that would not need daily water added sounded ideal. This planter is attractive and with the plants up off the ground the critters do not eat them. However, the planter needs water added at least every other day and that is a tremendous disappointment.

I couldn't find these planters anywhere but here!! This is my second purchase of these planters and I recommend them to everyone. I manage a senior living community that is housed in an historic brick building. These planters bring such vibrant life to the building - everyone just raves about the beauty of the two-tiered flowers and how it compliments the building. They hold water and drain well so I don't have to water everyday - helpful to a busy manager. Thanks for selling such a great product!

I've set mine up on the small balcony of my condo as a kitchen garden - radishes, carrots, and a variety of greens planted as seeds. All are up and thriving. It's serving dual duty, providing some privacy from the neighbors. I haven't given it 5 stars only because I've just set it up. We'll see how it survives the soggy NW winter - I have great hopes!

Resently assembled the item for the new sun room. Since I bought it several months ago I could not return it. I'm shocked that it's so flimsy, can't move it around without removing the planters for fear of it collapsing.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I've moved to a home on a small piece of property and needed something to take the place of a greenhouse. I have been propagating plants from cuttings and leaving the planters on my window edge. I would mist them twice a day for 20 minutes. These cascade planters have wonderfully taken the place of my window edge. I have filled the bottom with small pebbles so there is no access to standing water for the mosquitoes. I have attached a misting hose in between the the two planters with electrical ties and set a timer. It is perfect, and I do not have to worry about any water damage to my window edge.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I love this planter. I used to grow my herbs in pots on my porch, but it is under construction this summer so I needed an alternative. I wanted to keep my herbs off the ground. I am very pleased that it comes with the self-watering pots, as that is quite a savings. The only drawback (and it's a small one) is that the assembly instructions could be a bit clearer. I highly recommend this product.

Best Uses:
Outdoor Plants
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

Self watering planters are very nice and work well. The stand is terrible. It is steel and not very well painted so it arrived already rusting. Even well painted I cannot imagine stands of this price being made of steel (vs. aluminum or at least poweder-coated). In addition the pieces primarily just sit inside each other so if you lift it to move it the pieces all start to fall out except for the one or two that actual do screw together.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I purchased this product for my elderly mother who can not bend to garden anymore. She is delighted to be able to plant her veggies and flowers without having to wait for someone to come over to her house to weed for her.She is shorter so the top planter is just the right height for her. If the lower planter was just a little higher it would be perfect. It would be wonderful if all the legs on the planter could be adjusted (telescoped) and still remained sturdy.
I am very pleased with my purchase as is my mother. Thank you

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I really liked the look of this product in the catalog and was really intrigued by the self watering feature. I decided to try it out and I must say I love it. I have it on a side deck and believe it or not I am growing leaf lettuce in one level and geraniums in the second level. When I need a salad, I just go out and snip a few leaves right from the planter on my deck. The self watering feature is great for busy people and the unit was easy to assemble and attractive. I would like more color choices though for the actual pots (possibly green).

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

The planters display well outside our sunroom, to the point that we purchased 3 units to have one each under our windows.
Assembly was very easy. The only issue I have is minor, and that being that the water cap is connected to the printer using the same plastic material that the planter is fabricated from. It is like an umbilical cord for the cap, but it is so rigid that it easily cracked on one of the planters. The design was obviously done to keep down material cost but it definitely can be improved.

The planter was very easy to assemble; light enough to move around when assembled, but very sturdy when soil was added. I put the planter next to the front door and planted both potted herbs and herb seeds. I really like the water level indicators, but my dogs ate them. I was happy to find out that Gardener's Supply has them available for sale separately.
My pre-grown herbs are thriving, I have seedings coming up, and nothing is over or under watered. I really find the planter to be very useful. Now if it could just make me a better cook...

I received this product as a Mother's Day present. Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

This is an excellent value! It is very sturdy. At first I was concerned it wouldn't hold all the weight of the water, the soil and the plants but it has worked out beautifully! It was also extremely easy to assemble. It went together in less than 20 minutes. If I had the room I would order two more!

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I wanted this unit because it is attractive and fits under the kitchen window. I thought the screws were missing and I planned to purchase the two I needed. Found them screwed into the holes so they wouldn't get lost! Great idea! I really like this unit, was very easy to put together and is very attractive.

This is perfect for planting herbs and tomatoes on the deck - away from the deer and rabbits!

So far the self watering is working well. We'll have to wait and see how it performs in the heat of summer.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

This tiered planter is exactly what I was looking for. I have the three-tier planter outside my kitchen window with herbs and lettuce in the bottom box. These seem to drain well, there are holes for drainage and they hold a lot. Would highly recommend these.

We use the two-tier set to grow herbs on the patio. They stay out of the reach of rabbits and easy to harvest. The self-watering feature preserves plants through short trips when we're away and can't water.

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I just tried these for the first time. I really like them so far:
>They were easy to assemble, not flimsy
> the frame is a really nice height especially for cutting herbs
>The 2 tier is especially nice for someone in a chair with mobility problems
>the water fill tube and indicator are more user friendly than some other products.
I would love to see handles on either side of the box similar to those on tubtrugs making the box easier to lift or lower into the frame.

The only untested situation yet is how they will handle downpours... I will get back to you...

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

I love having my own herbs and vegetables; but in the past, I have either over watered or under watered and eventually killed them all. This wonderful product makes sure everything is perfectly watered. The planter has taken the stress out of vegetable and herb gardening for me. All of my plants are thriving in spite of me and I have already enjoyed my first home grown salad of the season!

Comments about Self-Watering Cascade Planters:

Last year I purchased the outdoor trellis planters that contained these plastic, self watering planters. I was hooked. These planters grow beautiful flowers since they drain well and don't need to be filled every day. I prefer this type of planter over the circular self-watering planters that you can pick up at your local stores. I've already set up the three tier frame and it looks great on the patio. I can't wait to add some flowers to it!
