Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I have these across my deck in the front of my house. This is the first summer for them! I was worried about the wind blowing them off...(I live in Kansas on a hill in the country) I placed them on my deck rail empty to make sure they would stay put. I had them out for early spring empty (very windy) and empty they never moved. Have them full and can't wait till my flowers get big!!!!!

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I splurged on four rail planters to liven up my deck at the beginning of the summer. My one concern was whether or not the planters would tip from the railing since there is no installation to speak of; you literally just place the planter on the rail. We just weathered the biggest thunderstorm I've ever seen, complete with intense gusts of wind and rain, and the planters did not budge. Amazing! Oh, and they look lovely too!

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I love these planters for my front patio, bought 3 and they really add a nice touch. However, one of that planters (the one facing North) does not want to stay on the railing when there is a strong wind - it has become my nemesis. I live in NYC- Long Island and it's not like we have ridiculous storms, but it just refuses to stay on and reluctantly has ruined all my beautiful plantings in it from falling to the ground. Yesterday was a windy day- rainstorm pending, it fell over 2x's. I found a bungee cord and tied it around and it still flip-flopped front to back- but at least did not fall over completely. The planter fits nicely over the railing, but be forewarned it is not a 'snug' fit. With all that being said, I still really likethem b/c they do not damage the vinyl railing and look nice.

Cons:
Not deep enough
Best Uses:

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I have had these planters for two years. They do hold up well but there is no room for a root system. Everything dries up even with watering twice a day. I watered so much that the run off ruined part of my deck. The pictures of the planters are deceiving as you cannot grow those plants in them.

Overall Great....but.....
By CJDVerified Reviewer from Kansas City, MO on 4/21/2010

Cons:
Dries out too fast, Shallow, Soil gets too hot
Best Uses:
Outdoor Plants
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I've had several of these for years. Holds up to sunlight, wind etc. Shallow, need to be deeper. Dry out too fast in sunlight and dirt gets too hot. Another couple of inches in height would be perfect. I just bought 6 more...and have spent the entire afternoon trying to get the residual glue off them after removing the labels which delaminated as I slowly and carefully peeled them. Someone at gardner's neds to ask the manufacterer to try and peel these suckers off themselves to see what it's like.....not good! I have better things to do, like grow plants!

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I have been searching for this type of planter for quite a while; the only "con" is that my porch railing is rounded on top and not the flat type of railing...therefore, the planters tend to rock a little, but I don't forsee their tumbling or falling off the railing especially once they are completely full of soil and plants. Once the plants have been watered that little extra weight seems to help as it compacts the soil even more. The planters really are attractive and overall I am well pleased.

I like this design and it fits perfectly; the only 'con' is that the center of planter is shallow; no deep rooted plants here - best for small, starter plants as opposed to transplanting mature (plants). They look good once installed and I would buy more.

This is the second set of this product that I have purchased. I had the first set in white which lasted outside year round for nearly 5 years. Would have lasted longer if my husband had not tried to lift them from deck rail by the lip while full of dirt. I loved them so much I immediately bought two new ones to replace the old ones. Good design, holds a lot, looks great on deck rail.

We recently moved from a house with a yard to a condo. Since we always had flower gardens at home, we jealously admired our friends gardens. With these flower boxes, and because we now live in the south, we can even have winter flowers! So, without the garden, this is a perfect way to enjoy live flowers all year round while relaxing on our deck.

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

My husband & I love the new saddle planter boxes we ordered and they look GREAT on our new front porch/deck railing.... they are the perfect touch. However, we WERE disappointed that they drain onto the deck itself on the one side, so we chose to plug the drain holes on the deck side. Also, when I ordered these planters, I thought they were the self-watering type that you sell, of which we have MANY already, and love. That feature is very important to us as we can be gone for a week or two at a time, and because we live in an area where we often have lots of wind in the summer that dry out the hanging baskets and pots very quickly.

use on banister deck display for now.
more creative ideas for next yr.; white is perfect,
cleans easily, drain system is inferior design,
drain holes too small, attracts insects, misquitos in left over water - mold, more cleaning required, time consuming. other than the drain and slight imperfect fit which my son will work on, it's very pretty, soft round corners, easy to clean.

I was previously using the planters that hang over the side of the deck rail. Our deck however, is a second story deck and those planters always made me nervous (especially since one had fallen already). These rail planters are great and much more stable than the regular 'hang over the side' types.

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I live in a town house and my deck is my garden. For years I'd searched unsuccessfully for a container that would sit on top of the deck railing to maximize my growing area, so I was delighted to find it at Gardener's Supply Co. I use one of mine for herbs, and can move it easily along the railing to follow my limited amount of sun. The other sits on the railing between my deck and that of my neighbor, and, filled with tall plants and flowers, it provides me with a little privacy.

I have a 25 foot deck and used to have 3 wooden planters on the 5.5" railing. I had to replace them every 5 years or so because they rotted out and they shifted on the railing. I was looking for something that would last, not rot, sit comfortably on the railing, water would run through it nicely and most of all look nice. My questions were answered and now I have 5 beautiful planters. Plus I have been getting a lot of compliments which is always nice!!!

We've had some fearsome storms this summer, with high winds, and the planters stayed put! Everyone who has visited us has commented on them. The railing planters are the most convenient, efficient, and effective solution for adding space to deck gardens. We love them!

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I use these planters with iron trellis's for my sweet peas to climb on providing shade for my south facing deck. I leave them up year round changing out seasonal floral and veggies for decoration and in Anchorage AK that means holding up to 20 below zero in the winter! Absolutely great and many of my neighbors have begun to use them as well.

The railing planters that I have used in the past were hung by metal hangers. The screws would come loose, the planter would fall have to be fixed, etc. This kind is more user friendly.

I love the two railing planters that I bought. I live on the side of a mountain with extremely poor soil and a very steep grade. Having these plantes on my deck railing makes gardening easy for me and attractive to all that pass our home.I love opening my shades in the morning and seeing my flowers right in front of me.As with all of their products, they are of a high quality. I have 2 of them and have them filled with herbs on the railing right outside my kitchen for easy access. Before buying these I had herbs in a traditional window box and when I was at the house every couple of weeks, they were alive but barely. With the reservoir, my herbs are now much healthier.

When we completed our new deck, these boxes seemed ideal to use for planting my small herb garden just outside the kitchen door. They looked so nice that I've purchased three more. My only regret is that they don't come in a shorter length. Love the color options and the way they fit snugly on my deck railings.

Comments about 24" Railing Planters:

I bought 3 railing planters last year & like them very much, though I did add a few drainage holes. I also had to wrap the railing with bubble wrap, as they became lopsided with the wind. This took care of the problem nicely. It's nice that you don't need extra holders for it. I used the hydro mats inside so I don't need to water as much. Any flower plant looks great in it. My neighbor liked mine so much she had me order 2 for her in this current order.
