This Advent Calendar is delightful. All 24 door compartments not only have very well made woodland resin animals behind each door, but the compartments are big enough to add your own individual presents too. Maybe something hand made or chocolate or a little china animal perhaps? It can be passed down through the generations and the children will always love it.

I bought two of them when they were half price and mailed one back to the UK for my two grandchildren. They can't wait to start opening the little doors this Christmas, 2011.

So I really recommend this wonderful advent calendar, it even comes on an affixed turntable so that children can turn the cabin when they need to get to the next numbered door. My son keeps it in the loft in its box, and will bring it down ready for each Christmas. Once you have this cabin you will never have to buy another advent calendar ever again!

Mine is in our walk-in closet in the basement, and it will come out for all the children I look after, ( I run a daycare nursery) this Christmas for the first time. I can't wait to see all the children's faces!

I had seen this in the catalog for a long time, but my budget didn't have room for it. When it went on sale after Christmas this year, I went ahead and got one. After seeing it "in person", I understand why it was priced the way it was. It's just adorable, and looks like it will last through many grand-children.

I purched this item after the holidays so we did not use it this year. I opened it when I got it just to make sure it arrived undmaged. My three year old loved it and wanted to check out all of the items in the doors. We can't wait till next holiday season to set it up and use it. The only thing that I don't love is the scale of some of the animals. I am just that way and have done many things to scale. So bears that are the same size as a cardinal kind of bother me...... but I am sure I will get over it. :)

Wondering what to get my wonderful new daughter-in-law for Christmas, I recalled the traditions that my son (now her dear husband) had enjoyed. Every year there was an advent calendar- sometimes paper, sometimes 3-D. When I found this cabin with its high quality woodland figures, I knew I'd found a gem. They aren't cutesy or religious, they are just animals and birds. Anyway, she LOVES it. A perfect gift for any young (or really for ANY) family. It will last for years and years. I've wanted to purchase this cabin since it first came out and ordered it immediately when it went on sale. It IS cute, and the animals are great, but we will have to put it back together before we display it next year. The porch is in pieces and the whole bottom is disconnected from the base. Nevertheless, we will enjoy it after a few applications with our trusty glue gun. I'm quite happy that I did not pay full retail.

Great nature advent calendar! Really love the nature theme of this item. It is well made and easy to use. We moved the tree to the other corner so that the window was easier to view. Love that it is on a swivel base. Perfect for the family that loves the outdoors, lives in the woods etc. Children love all the animals. Doors are definitely not magnetic as advertised. They just open and shut on a hinge, which is fine.

The kids love the cabin. They have been playingn with it since we set it out. We had to develop a schedule for who gets to open the next door. The animals are very cute and I don't have to worry about the kids breaking them.

Only negative is the cabin turns too easily. The kids accidently spun the cabin and the animals went flying.

I was disappointed that the tree covers the only shutter on the back window of the cabin (it would have been cute to have that shutter showing. This advent calendar is cute. I was disappointed with the quality of the animals and the cabin. The cabin could have been smaller in my opinion and it's a little difficult to get the animals out of the compartments. With such a large cabin a light could have been fixed inside to light the top window up. The door could have opened. I think there should have been more done to the outside of the cabin, ie. trees, outdoor stuff to put the animals on. I think the quality of the advent calendar does not live up to the price.

I saw this calendar in the catalog a few years ago and I am a huge animal lover so naturally I fell in love with it. I didn't have any children at the time so I didn't purchase one. Since then I have had a daughter and I spent about 2 full days on the internet searching for it because I couldn't remember where I originally saw it. I was SO excited when I finally found it. I purchased it for my daughter and although she is only 2 she LOVES it! She loves animals as much as I do so it is the perfect advent calendar for her. We have it on our kitchen table and every night she is more than willing to eat her dinner in anticipation of opening another door. We also use it as a counting tool because after we open the daily door, we count how many more doors we get to open before Christmas. The only down side and the reason why I only rated 4 stars is because the animals are pretty fragile. We already have a deer with no horns and a bunny with no ears but of course our daughter is only 2 and we've tried hard to teach her that she can't play with the animals. Other than that, I love the cabin and especially love the variety of animals.

I have several similar wooden advent calendars in my collection. I was very disappointed in the quality of this one, primarily of the little animals. Some were so delicate some broke (antlers, etc) just unwrapping them[...]. Also, the dimensions were very off: a very tiny moose and a deer, smaller than the large squirrel and chipmunk for example. Lastly, and of less importance, it comes with a tree to attach to the base "with provided hardware" which was not provided.

I always loved opening the windows on an advent calendar when I was a child, so I bought this for my grandson to start the tradition in his family. It was an especially appropriate choice since we have a mountain cabin that he loves visiting. An advent cabin doesn't get any better than this. The cabin itself is beautiful with nice detailing, the doors have a magnetic catch so they close firmly and are fun to open and shut, the woodland critters are very cute (and much better than chocolate!), and the cabin comes on a rotating stand. With each new animal, my grandson decides whether to hang it on the big Christmas tree behind the cabin or to put it on the base around the cabin. He even settled the bear cub into the chair on the front porch. I wouldn't normally spend this much on an advent calendar, but this was really worth it because it is a fun and educational Christmas tradition that I expect to last for years.

I bought this for my 5 year old, great-niece who is being treated for leukemia at a hospital during this Christmas season. I wanted something that she could enjoy as she counts down to this holiday. Her mother said she loved opening all the little doors to find out what was behind them!

It's resin, so the quality of workmanship isn't as fine as some materials can be. Still, the detail is sweet, and you get the right feeling looking at it. The doors open to reveal tiny animals that are of the same quality of the house - not ceramic, not hand carved wood, but well done - and made so that we can afford them (if only barely—anticipating DECADES of use). I anticipate that children will find this cabin fascinating. I've tried a lot of concept calendars over the years, but I think this is finally one I can keep for years and be delighted with.

Very cute, daughters love it. Seems of durable quality (just bought it). Only real complaint is that there's really nowhere to put most of the animals as you take them out. Granted, some hang by strings, but other than those few, the rest just kind of get stuck on the surface around the cottage, and they get knocked around when the cottage spins. I think previous models had a surface to put them on, and that seems a better design.

I think the concept is fantastic. I purchased this for my 4 year old as an alternative to chocolate advent calendars with the idea it could become an annual tradition and family collectible. I think my expectations were unrealistic given the age of my son. I love the magnetic doors and numbers, they're good quality. He's counting and so it's very fun this year. The animals look and feel different than pictured in the catalog. The quality is disappointing and I sense once they're dropped a few times, they'll break. I will keep the cabin as I think we'll enjoy it but I anticipate needing to replace the animals, wish they looked nicer, were scaled-to-size better, were more durable, etc. Especially for the price. Note - the product was made in China and looks like it.

It is a great cabin with easy to open doors that stay closed with magnet. There is plenty of room to place the contents of the doors, but the cabin is not bulky. Fun for the kids especially.

This is a really lovely addition to our house decorations for the holiday season. I have not seen anything like it at all before, and the fact that it's on a swivel base is great. Only caution is that because all the animals have to fit in the little compartments, they are not exactly to scale--the bullfrog is about as big as the moose! But I think that just adds to the rusticness of it. I am expecting a lot of "ooohs" and "cool" when people & kids see it this season.

I love this. I took it to my office, and soon had a group of people stop by each morning to see what the new animal would be. I do wish that the animals were all at close to the same scale (forget the mooses -- ducks, rabbits, etc., would work better together).

Actually, I unpacked my Woodland Cabin and checked it out, but have not used it yet as I got it after Christmas. It seems to be very well made and per other reviews it seems to handle being played with by grandchildren. This was purchased as a December birthday present for my daughter. She and her family are hikers and campers and I thought this would be a nice keepsake for her to use yearly. Fits in well with their 'woodsy' theme. We were all delighted when she openned it. It is very well built and absolutely lovely. Only negative is that some of the animals are broken or maybe were not cast perfectly. Part of the deer's antler is missing and several other animals have little broken parts. She is delighted with it though.

This is the most unique advent calendar I have ever seen. A lovely, well built cabin with a big tree next to it. The tree has hanging buds on it for hanging the few items that have a string hanger. Beautiful detail and easy set up. It even has a lazy susan on the bottom for rotating to view. Wonderful for yourself or as a gift. If you give as a gift, unwrap each of the cabin door items before hand. They are wrapped nicely in little bubble pack wrappers. Very impressive!

I bought this for my daughter who has been wanting an unusual advent calendar for years. The woodland theme is perfect and very different. I was thrilled that the cabin itself is wood and not plastic, which you can't tell from the catalog. The only disadavantage is that when it's put together, the wooden tree at the back sticks up in such a way that it's a little difficult to store. But that's not a huge problem.

I was pleasantly surprised by how large this product was and features such as the rotating surface that the cabin sits on allowing you to display all sides of the cabin. It is great fun to pull out day by day the different creatures not knowing first time out what you are going to get. The animals/birds are adorable and the cabin detailing very real. Well built and living in the northwest I could probably keep this out in my family room year round seeing as how it fits my decor in the room. Very happy with it overall. We wanted to get an advent calendar that wasn't chocolate oriented, and wanted one that could be used every year. I had actually ordered a different one from another place as it was the best I could find at the time when lo and behold the GSC catalog came along in the mail. I ordered this one and returned the previously purchased one and I'm SO glad I did. Our daughter is 21 months old and she LOVES it! Every night right before dinner we say it's time to count down another day and she gets a big smile on her face and holds her hand up to ours to go over and open the next door! She gets so excited when she opens the door and peeks in and gasps and smiles and pulls out the creature and puts it on the porch, or hangs it in the tree. Such a delight - highly recommend!

I was looking for a way for my son to participate in the approach of Christmas. He isn't at that age to understand the advent candle and lighting a candle each week doesn't give us enough continuity. Most advent calendars have chocolate and other candies and I didn't want to do THAT either. So I love him opening each door. Today is December 2nd and yesterday and this morning was the first thing he did when he got up! The quality of the piece is good--I wasn't expecting each animal to be absolutely pristine. There are seam ridges in the moulding of the animals. The item is pricey, but because we will be using it for many many years I feel it is more than worth it. I liked the other advent calendars (birdhouse, gingerbread house, potting shed), but we travel to Wyoming and to the mountains of Washington State where we stay in log cabins--the theme was perfect!

I purchased two advent calendars, the Birdhouse for my mother and this one for myself. I now wish I had gotten two birdhouses! Both are quite large and heavy (much bigger than I had expected). The swivel base is great (and necessary). With the birdhouse, each bird comes out and "perches" on it's own door. The cabin animals are small pieces to place anywhere. Not good if you have small hands or paws to steal or scatter them around!

I could hardly wait to open mine to set it up. I wanted to put it out for Christmas but it was a little too early for that. I also bought one for each of my two daughters. One daughter has a birthday on Nov 4 and I plan to give it to her then. I knew the other daughter would have a fit when she saw her sister's so I bought her one also.
