(based on 201 ratings)
Located in:Gardening, Vegetable Gardening, Terrific Tomatoes
These are the sturdiest tomato plant supports that you can buy. Made with 7mm steel verticals and 6mm cross pieces, they're 20% thicker than other supports on the market. Seven cradle-shaped cross-members give multiple places for vines to rest, and the small footprint makes the most of garden space.

  • Like our original —only red!
  • Ladders hold a huge harvest — over 100 pounds
  • Ladders cradle fruit-laden vines more effectively than stakes
  • V-shaped design protects each plant's main stem
  • Ladders nest for compact off-season storage

These tomato towers are terrific. They stand up to the weight of enormous Brandywines and do not pull out of the soil nor tip over. I do tie the tomato vines to them at the beginning of the season to keep them somewhat confined. I only wish they were a foot or two taller for those really BIG tomato plants.

I also use them for peas and cucumbers to keep these plants growing upwards, saving space on the ground.

At the end of the season I simply hose them off. They take very little space to store.

I found that I needed to use more than one ladder to hold up my medium to larger fruits and veggies.I still had to tie them to the ladder or they would fall out. Stakes on the bottom bend easier than I thought they would. I'm afraid over a season or two they might break off. I enjoyed the ease of stacking them up for storage after this summers use.Easy to hose off.Nice colors.

These tomato ladders grew the largest crop of succulent tomatoes I have seen in my garden. I grew them along side of other tomatoes in wire trellises. The ladders produced larger tomatoes and in greater amounts than in trellises. I highly recommend these tomato ladders. They will last for years.

I am now midway through tomato season. The indeterminate plants have sprawled outside their small cages with tomato laden branches on ground. The depth of the enclosure not adequate for a bushy plant. I hope they can be redesigned as the sturdiness is certainly a big plus. I may attempt to use two facing one another next year.

Red is not a good color for tomato cage - I should have chosen green, but failed to note that color was available when I ordered.

Best use as support for single stem plants such as peppers and eggplants. May be OK for determinate tomatoes.

To use as support of our numerous tomato plants.Kept the tomato plants upright, fruit off the dirt, fruit grew to approximately 2lbs per tomato. The plants were able to get more air and sunlight to them. Allowed us to be able to walk between the rows of tomato plants without breaking the plants. Marvelous invention.

These tomato ladders do not adequately support a full plant with lots of branches. I have had to add a variety of stakes to try to support tomato-laden branches shooting out from these ladders. I had better success with the small vegetable ladders for smaller plants, such as basil, eggplant, etc.

I used these tomato ladders for growing tomatoes for the first time this season. I also used the round metal tomato rings to grow tomatoes next to them. My tomatoes that grew in the red ladders were the strongest, and hardiest plants and bore an amazing amount of good size tomatoes. The other tomato plants that were on the old round rings fell out of the rings, trailed on the ground and didn't produce as many tomatoes. The ladders are so sturdy and will last for many years. You can train your plants to grow into the ladders without much effort at all.
    * Note: I planned on ordering more ladders during this sale, but found that not only were they NOT on sale, they went up in price by $10. What a shame!

I'm a senior and I love the independence these give me. Easy to carry, install, remove and store without needing a second person. Reuseable year after year. What a truly great product! Thank you Gardener's Supply!

We replaced most of the old wire cages with 10 new ladders this year. They look nice and we were able to better organize our tomato plants. It also gets quite windy where we live and these ladders stand up to the challenge. Friends from Ohio saw our ladders on a recent visit and went home and ordered some for their garden. Impressive!

It's great for small plants, but not for beefsteak tomatoes. The vines were too tall (6'+) and the tomatoes were too heavy for the small cage. The vines would collapse on the side or fall through the opening (even after they were trained).

Recommend that you list the possible types of tomatoes that are appropriate to grow with it.

These tomato ladders looked beautiful even before the tomatoes grew up through them. The color blends perfectly with the zinnias, dahlias, and sunflowers of summer! I've had many people ask where I purchased them.

I will now look forward to growing tomatoes each season with the tomato ladders to easily support my tomato plants. It is so easy to guide the plants through the ladder as they grow and the construction of this product is perfect for support due to the size and vinyl coating.

THe tomato ladders are a big improvement over the old fence system I was using. They are very strong and easy to install. My tomato plants sometimes get too big for them. That is the only problem I've had so far.

I love these tomato supports. I live in PA and have lots of shale making it difficult to get thin tomato cage supports into the ground. These tomato cages went in easily as they are quite rigid. Exactly what I was looking for!
My tomato plants get very large, so an even wider tomato support could be even better. Yet these are the pest supports I have ever tried. Thanks for a superior product.

No need to tie branches like I did with flimsy tomato cages that were too short and didn't hold up to heavy tomatoes.

Very easy to use and they look great too.

I have used "tie ups" for many years, and then tried another product from your catalog last year which was not strong enough for my tomato plants, but these are terrific--strong enough to hold up the plants without needing tying and easy to put up in the garden with little or no effort. I plan to get more for some of my flowering plants as well.

Every year my tomato cages collapse under the weight of the fruit. This system is staying erect and is easy to tie the plants to without damaging branches. It's staying erect and it's kinda pretty in the garden. My yard is on a garden walk this summer and I'm glad I switched to this type of support.

I've used a variety of tomato supports over the years and I fell in love with these tomato ladders. I don't have to support them with a fence post like I used to do with my old tomato cages. Picking tomatoes out of these cages is a snap also. These are fantastic!

Requires more work than tomato cages but they are ideal for smaller plants (peppers, eggplants & patio tomatoes) and they are attractive. Can't comment on longevity but I'm impressed that none have toppled in relatively high winds.

I purchased 10 of the red tomato ladders for the first time this year after trying every other kind of flimsy thing in years past. My tomato plants (9 in all) are thriving and have grown 2 ft.over the top of the 5ft.tall ladders. The supports for the vines are wonderful, it is easy to tie the vines to and the ladders don't wiggle or sway at all. These are the best things I have seen for this job! Add the coating over the steel and I figure these will last many years.

Our garden is in the front yard since that's the only place we get enough sun. My husband thought the bamboo poles I used last year were tacky. I got these so our garden would look neater and meet my husbands approval. He liked them a lot and I was very pleased at how well they worked. No more twine. They are sturdy and we've had a lot of wind this year. I'm very pleased. Everyone asks me where we got them.

I'm very pleased with these ladders. Although I would perfer them to be widder and taller, I am able to tie my tomato plants up to the ladder and the ladder is strong and study enough to support all this growth. This year I have grown the largest and fullest tomato plants ever using these ladders. A few of my plants are now so large you can no longer see the ladder at all.
