Seedling Heat Mat

Comments about Heat Mats:

The small seedling heat mat is just large enough for two APS trays. The mat is contructed well and helps to heat the ambient air around the seed trays. We saw our tomato seedlings appear in 5 days and are very happy with the mat. I would buy this again when we want to increase our seedlings.

Comments about Heat Mats:

I have found that with small seed sprouting pots the soil temperature at the surface can get over 90 degrees with an ambient air temperature of about 68, while the soil closer to the bottom of the pot may be well over 110. With a humidity dome on the temperatures got much hotter - up to 110 at the surface. I would imagine that such temperatures could be harmful to some varieties. By leaving the humidity dome off and not leaving the mat on for long periods I can keep the temperature in a reasonable range, and my seedlings are thriving. You could also experiment with different amounts of insulation between the pots and the mat.

Comments about Heat Mats:

I started my seeds in the garage in February in zone 6 region which is still a very cold time of year here. The Heat Mat was a great addition to my seed starting processand since I was able to set it up in the garage with my grow light it kept my germinating seeds warm and all the mess out of the house. My seeds germinated quickly and are strong healthy plants. I really love everything about the mat except the price I felt like it was a little pricey for it size, product directions and size.

Keeps plants and worms warm
By GailVerified Purchaser from Wyoming on 2/28/2011
Pros:
Extends Season
Best Uses:
Warms roots, Warm worm bed
Describe Yourself:
Do-It-Yourself
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Heat Mats:

This is my second mat, my worms have been kept warm thru 2 winters now (to -30) by placing the mat under their bed, and covering the whole thing with a comforter, in our shop, that is heated only part time. This second mat is for my plants, that will be in my unheated greenhouse. I also used the first mat in the greenhouse over another winter to keep some pots warm, (so it is 3 years old) up on a bench, they were also covered at night with a sheet. The mat it a bit expensive but worth it and so far I am very happy with how long they are lasting.

I keep my house well below 70 deg in the early spring, so seeds have a tough time germinating, then growing. This product is expected to help.

Exactly what I needed
By Ohio GardenerVerified Purchaser from Loveland, OH on 3/6/2010
Pros:
Attractive Design, Extends Season
Best Uses:
Seed-starting
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Heat Mats:

When we bought our first heating mat elsewhere, it was square rather than rectangular, and did not fit well below our seed trays. This mat is exactly the right size, and the prunella in our trays sprouted at least a week earlier than the package said. I am very pleased with the mat's performance.

Best Uses:
Rooting cuttings, Seed Starter

Comments about Heat Mats:

I love to stick cuttings of landscape plants, houseplants and such. This heat pad has helped me get good root growth. I start seeds toward spring each year and use my trusty heat pad with great results.

Last spring I even used my pad to heat an emergency brooder for newly hatched baby chicks.

The pad is easy to clean and use. I plan to buy the larger size in my nest order.
