Nice product. Our company used the scooter as a promo at a professional horticulture show. Show participants were attracted to the cute appearance of the scooter and registered enthusiastically to win it.

I assembled it at the show and wish I had more tools than I had. Would be good to have someone to assist in holding parts while putting together. Assembly was not difficult, but an extra hand would have been helpful.

Most of the registrants agreed that a beverage holder of some sort would have been a nice addition.

Great for working along the edge, if going straight and on level ground. It needs a brake so it wouldn't move when getting on and off. Cannot turn it when you are on it. I like the storage space under and behind.

I have raised garden beds, so the seat is at a perfect hight for weeding, thinning, etc. I even use it when I'm putting up fencing so I don't have to bend over for the lowest connections. I was surprised at how much assembly was required. I didn't remember reading about that in the catalog descripition. It looks good once assembled. The seat is comfortable. It's easy to pull and position, and the handle does provide support when you're sitting down or standing up from the Scoot. However, I found it impossible to steer while sitting on it, which sort of defeats the purpose of a scoot, since I had to keep lowering the handle and semi-rising to change the direction of the wheels. Positioning it became a little easier after about 20 minutes of using it, as I got used to the mechanics of it. Overall, it's a good product, just not the total answer to gardening woes the description makes it out to be. I'm keeping it, so that says something. I'd give it three and a half stars.

I bought this scooter for my wife to use. She has two artificial knees and bending down is a problem and causes back problems. She can use this scooter and the strain on her back is substantially decreased making her time in the garden and working in her flower beds much more enjoyable for her. She loads up her baskets and the seat to get to her project for the day so she has less lifting to do and she unloads the seat when she gets to her garden or flower bed. She hasn't had it very long and so far hasn't found any things she doesn't like about it.

No parts left over after putting it together (always a good thing). Seems to be sturdy enough, although the steering is not easy to use when moving along the flower beds; kind of awkward. I ordered this several months ago but was afraid to try and assemble it because of some of the reviews. They were correct. If you are not handy this is extremely difficulty as there are many bolts with nuts that instruct you to hold with the pliers or wrench and the screw with the other hand. Once assembled, it looks like it will function as illustrated. Comfortable to sit in. The basket in the back is very small.

I have a number of health issues that normally would prevent me from doing a lot of gardening and this handy dandy Scoot came to my rescue! It saves my knees and back and allows me to garden for longer periods of time without taking a break. I am a large woman and it is very sturdy and I feel very safe on it, although adding a brake would be helpful for gardeners who garden on inclines.

It took me about an hour to assemble the scooter, by myself, with only a little bit of swearing; with a second set of hands, it would probably have taken 30-40 minutes. After putting it together, I took it right out to the pea patch b/c picking 5 rows of peas is really tough on my 75-yr-old back and knees. The scooter is wonderful for this job! I'm short (5'4"), so I've got the seat turned down all the way, and that height it's just right. It would be too high, though, for weeding or planting. After the first use, I took the rear basket off b/c that allowed me to face backward and propel the scooter that way if I wanted to. But even scooting sideways isn't too difficult, unless I hit a really uneven patch of mulch (shredded pine bark). I also discovered that if I left the handle extended, I could indeed do some steering while seated, at least enough to keep the scooter going straight between rows. Maneuvering the beast while standing takes a bit of practice, but it does have a fairly tight turning circle, which is good in most gardens. I've been using it for about three weeks now, and all in all, I'm quite happy with this item. For my size it could have been a bit smaller, but you can't have everything!

Overall very good. Adjustable seating is a plus. Steering is marginal. One problem is an inability to work downslope. There ia no brake and it is very free rolling. My solution was to put a brick in the basket to use as a chock.

I have bad knees and a problematic back and this device takes a lot of the discomfort away from gardening. So far it has exceded expectations. It rolls well without rolling out from under me as past devices have done. It is steerable while I'm sitting on it which is a real benefit in my garden.
My one suggestion is to put soft coverings on the pull handle, the existing handles are an accident waiting to happen.

This garden cart is what I have been needing to get down to my herbs and vegetables. It is great for serious weeding as well as careful seeding and transplanting. I bought this for my mom who lives out of town since the catalog suggested it would be great Mother's Day gift. I initially did not notice this thing weighs close to 40 lbs and also that it needs to be put together. The tires also emit this weird smell but after opening the box there was a note to keep it outside until the vulcanized rubber smell dissipates. My mom felt it was too much for her so I brought it home and my husband assembled it. Putting the gas grill together was easier than assembling this scooter. Slightly over an hour later it was assembled and ready for use. Now that it's assembled I have to say I love it. It is very comfortable to sit on and will most likely last forever. I would recommend this to a friend who is able to assemble it.

The product itself is very sturdy. They should include at least one extra of the nuts/bolts etc as when your putting it together it's easy to misplace one. The pins were a bit cheap that hold the wheels in place, it broke while I was putting it together and had to use wire till I got to the store to buy a replacement. I purchased this for my 85 year old mother who loves to be out in the yard working on her flowers, etc, but can't stand for long. She was so excited when I put it together for her. It's been very helpful for her and she absolutely loves it. She calls it her "John Deer Tractor, Jr) because of it being green. The seat is comfortable and makes it nice to be able to adjust according to one's height. In our case, it is on the lowest level and fits perfectly for 5'4". This was definitely a good investment for her so she can do more things outside plus giving her more sense of independence and dignity.

I have used it a couple of times myself and I am 46. It definitely aids with back, hip, or knee problems. The seat was more comfortable than I perceived. I have used it with gardening and when I wash the vehicle.

As to the construction it is very sturdy. It took me longer to put together because I am not exactly tool savy, but learning. I would recommend using wing bolts in some areas.

I purchased this for a gift. Over all the Tractor Scoot is of sturdy construction, adjustable and easy to use. The product does need assembly (aprox. 30-45 min) but is worth the time. The only exception is the three position handle that broke(poor weld) after only three months of light use. I spoke to a neighbor and he had the same complaint with his Tractor Scoot. Caution should be exercised when using the product on a even a slight slope.

If the design was improved in the handle I would recommend this tool.

I bought this because I have back problems. It helps immensely to be able to sit and plant or weed. It's very sturdy and you can swivel around. The handle turns and that is sometimes a problem when it collapses on you. It has a great little basket attached. (It would be even better if the basket was about twice the size.) I will redesign part of my garden so I can get this in because right now I can't reach 'into' the gardens. I have another garden stool that is fine if you don't want to move. I am a 53 year old avid gardener who is also a physical therapist who works with many people who are interested in gardening... both seniors and adults. The seat is extremely comfortable, adjustable height is a huge plus, and it is easy to pull/steer. It's great for working on raised beds.
The catalog completely neglected to mention anything about "assembly required". It took me around 2-3 hours, and only because my husband bailed me out . Not at all easy to assemble... not that it was complicated or anything, but I would really think twice before recommending it to a senior who was not mechanically inclined.
Also the tires were really, really toxic smelling. As a gardening magazine, I would think you would be more inclined to be more environmentally minded. I realize they were probably cheaper, and that you passed these savings down to us, but I'd rather pay more and not expose myself and the environment to that level of toxicity!!!
I have one and I use it all the time now, we fight over who gets to sit in it, it's so comfortable! I will be recommending it to those people who could actually assemble it, or have someone they could hire to do it, or a family member who is "handy".

Look over all pieces before you assemble! I received my Scoot and put it all together as per instructions. The last piece to go on was the handle assembly. After I attached it and tried to move the scoot using the handle, it snapped off. One of the welds broke. Rather than unassembling and repacking and shipping it all back, I got a friend to tack weld the piece back on for me. So make sure all pieces are right before you go through all that assembly.

Hello, I am a 65 year old woman who thought she was going to have to give up both my flowers and vegetables with my bad back, neck, knees and feet. I thought it would be helpful to use in the garden and landscaping since I have terrible arthritis in the knees and back. I received this tractor scoot about a month ago. I unpacked it and thought this is more than I care to deal with. My brother visited and assembled it in about half an hour, said it was not hard to do. I have yet to try it other than scooting in the garage. It will take some getting used to. I got it because I have arthritis and two artificial knees and it is so hard for me to pull weeds and plant and I can no longer kneel. I purchased this for my 85 year old mother who wants to be outside and help with gardening, but finds it difficult to stand long, bend, and hard to get up. This product has added more dignity, independence, and quality of life for her so she can go outside and work on the plants and enjoy nature. She is absolutely thrilled and loves her little tractor. When you spend as much time in the garden as I do and have a bad knee, you occassionally need a place to sit down or a hand up off the ground. This is the perfect tool for those uses. It is sturdy, holds tools and other items used in the garden, and it easy to pull and use. I love the locking handle for the times when you need an extra hand up. It took us about 2 days to assemble this scooter. All parts were there, but tools to use were not clear.........it took many more. Finally our 9 yr. old grandson with smaller hands was able to help us tighten all the screws and bolts.

I purchased my tractor scoot about three years ago. When I purchased my tractor scoot, the long handle was not available, however, Gardner's Supply now has the retro handle available. I bought this item because my other garden scooters were too low to the ground, and I was having trouble getting up and down with my aging knees. In that regard, this scooter has been wonderful. Much easier to get up and down, and being able to swivel the seat means I don't have to get up and down much anyway. But I find the seat shape ackward. Maybe it's just the shape of my bottom but I am always working not to slip off. That is the only thing that makes this scooter not perfect, in my mind.

This is a heavy duty product that performs very well. I highly recommend the product with the following comments about assembly. The downside is that is a difficulty in assembly that could have been easily addressed by the manufacturer. The 6x15mm bolts used to attach the plastic tray are too short. The tray does not actually fit between the support tubes so by the time you add the depth required by the 2 support brackets, the tray itself, and the gap created by the tubes, the bolts do not extend through enough to get the washer and nut attached. You have to deform the plastic. This requires a fair amount of pressure on the assembled pieces while holding them in place and trying to fit the nut at the same time. Two hands are not enough. Clamps help. This is not covered in the assembly instructions. (I think this is one of those products where the product people at the selling company have not actually tried to assemble it or they would have noticed and corrected this.)

I needed a sturdy but functional seat to use when I garden due to knee pain and this seems to fit the bill. I also am over 325 pounds and it appears to be handling my weight better than others I've tried.

Cons:

The handle can be unwieldy and difficult to "unlock" and lengthen. I suspect it is something that will improve over time (and WD-40). It also has caught my pants pocket several times causing issues with me standing up.

The tires STINK! Even after sitting outside for 3 months the tires still smell badly and give me a headache. This is a disappointment.

Have not got to use as much as I would have like outside before reviewing (bad weather). It works well inside too. Makes washing lower kitchen cabinets and window a breeze! My wife has rheumatoid arthritis making it very difficult for her to get down to ground level without extreme pain. This Scoot was made for her, giving her the ability to work and move around while remaining relatively pain free. I found the Deluxe Tractor Scoot(er) was made and finished extremely well with excellent directions. The only trouble I had was in the assembling of the tractor. There wasn't enough room in the areas given for your hands, tools, nuts & bolts for ease of assembly; was not impossible but difficult. Once the assembling was accomplished I'm very please with the results.

I bought 2 of these as Christmas gifts for my dad and my father-in-law. Both have back problems and have knee replacement surgery, yet still enjoy working in the yard. They are thrilled with them! Spring will give them a better work out, but for right now, we are very pleased with our purchase.

After knee surgery I wasn't able to kneel to garden. Without the scooter, I would have had to give up my life long hobby. Now I can continue to plant seeds and plants, weed and do other garden chores that I love while comfortable seated on the sturdy scooter. I'm now a long way from being slim and trim, but this baby is robust enough to allow me to still do what I love most: work in my gardens. Assembly was a bit challenging for this old broad (no one to help) but I got er done. Also, it's not little so storage could be a problem for some.

I purchased it for my daughter who recently had a accident & she has a hematoma/scar tissue on her hip & leg.She loves to be outside/do landscaping. She has a greenhouse & it allows her to get to the plants without having to bend causing pain. She was so excited when she opened it. she can roll from stand to stand & store in it. I thought my gardening days were over. The arthritis in my hips had kept me out of the garden for the past 2 years. Then last spring I asked for this scoot for Mother's Day. Since the day it arrived, I was back out in the garden and enjoying every minute. I found it easy to weed, prune and plant all while sitting on the ample-size seat. There's lots of room to hold tools, drink and phone etc. Hubby even found a way to attach a small wagon to the back so I could put flowers etc. in it as I worked around in the flower/veggie beds. We did have to keep the stiring handle well lubricated as it got harder to "drive" with repeated use.

I can't wait for the snow to melt and spring to arrive so I can get back outside and enjoy gardening from my little scoot.

I got this when I had my leg in a cast and needed to continue gardening. It worked out perfectly for my raised bed gardens - not sure if you have short arms how it would be for ground level gardening. It was just what I needed and next year it will keep me from constantly bending over. Steering could be better but manageable.

I had problems with the steering at first due to a lack of shims on the steering arm. An additional large diameter Washer of the proper thickness was all that was needed to correct the problem. The scooter is well built and solid and should last for many years.

wheels and very easy to guide.

I was very disappointed to find that the nuts and bolts on this product did not finger tighten at all. I was able to tighten the nut about 1/8" to 1/4" and it was a much longer bolt/screw. I haven't yet had time to go back and try to use tools to force it to tighten further. This was true for EVERY connection except the seat, which finger-tightened just fine.

I find this little scooter made it possible to keep my gardens weed free and blooming all summer. Dead headding and weeding are activities that can be very hard on backs. And I was always losing or misplacing the tools I needed. The storage on the bottom kept even my cell phone in a handy, reachable place. The adjustable height of the seat made it possible to reach plants both close to the ground and in rows farther away.

I got this for weeding while sitting since I am partialy handicapted. It might be good on flat hardscape but my weeding in the garden or flower beds are a problem since I need to get up each time in order to pull the scoot into a new position. When I try to steer it while sitting on it, the front wheels turn on contact with any small item and will not go straight. It's sturdy and I like the concept and the storage areas but do not use it because of the difficulty I have with standing.

This product has allowed me to enjoy my yard and garden again. With arthritis in my knees it was impossible to weed and attend to other gardening chores. This is a sturdy product and works well for moving in a straight line across an area. The frame is too large for an avg-small person, making maneuvering with legs difficult on an uneven surface like a backyard lawn. For example, my legs would get brushed by the tires while trying to scoot forward.

The assembly instructions that were included were not accurate, they showed the under the seat bin in a backward position. And the nuts, bolts, and washers that were included were not well identified. In fact I think that there were not the variety that the directions said there should be. They worked, but it did cause some concern.

This is a very sturdy garden cart. The main drawback is that the wheels cannot change direction so the cart can not turn.

The scoot is difficult to move on uneven ground. The steering is so short that when you try to pull it behind you, it kicks you in the calf. The baskets are permanently affixed, so that if you use if for harvesting, you have to move your produce a second time. It would work fine on raised beds, but not so well in my garden.

It's great to sit at flower height to trim the deadheads off without getting a backache. I will have to plan my garden a bit less haphazardly next year to get between all the rows, though. I had some problem with steering where I have left the walkway a bit too rough from digging bindweed. My husband thinks it would be 'fun' to coast down the highway on it -- I don't think so!

I use my product to save my back when weeding. I ordered one for myself and my girlfriend who has a crushed disc in her back and who had been hiring local boys to do her weeding. She loves it! It can be a little hard to steer, however, once you sit down on it. Would recommend manufacturer incorporate bearings or something to make steering glide easier when turning stick from side-to-side.

This is a really useful product for those who have difficulty kneeling or bending over for long periods of time. It took a while to assemble, but it is a solid piece of equipment. The seat is comfortable and it swivels, which is a big plus. There are two sections to hold equipment, both convenient. My biggest issue is with steering and movement, which isn't too easy on grassy surfaces or if you have weak legs.

After knee replacement surgery, kneeling to weed in the garden was impossible. I was thrilled to find the Tractor Scoot. The adjustable seat makes it perfect to set where my knees are comfortable. The tool tray under the seat is perfect for storing my EZ digger and gloves between weedings, and I love having the basket to set my thermal cup in so I always have fresh cold water along with me as I work. The tractor scoot makes it possible for me to get out and "play" in my gardens again.

I find the product very hard to use in a normal garden environment. Maybe it would be more beneficial to someone who was merely flower gardening in suburbia. It is too hard to manuever and still too far to reach to the ground to pull weeds when sitting on the seat.
