    Comments about Backyard Recycler:

I like how it looks, it doesn't stink, and the assembly is easy. The only thing I would change is that I would like it to have a bottom (like maybe screen) and I thought the directions for assembly were a little unclear. Great overall.

    Not what I was hoping
By R&M Trinity LoftsVerified Purchaser from Durham, NC on 2/22/2010
    Pros:
    Attractive, Capacity, Easy Assembly
    Cons:
Doesn't sift old from new, Not sturdy, Rickety
    Describe Yourself:

    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Backyard Recycler:

The product photos are very misleading. It seems as though there must be some sort of sifting mechanism in between the two compartments (upper and lower halves), since there is a nice pile of fully decomposed compost all by its lonesome in the photo. In reality, the door, when opened, would cause all of the contents to spill out. This composter is basically one large bin without a base and two doors on both sides at the bottom. However it does have a nice hinged top, designed to shed water.

My husband and I had to retro-fit this composter by adding our own sifting device (3/8" chicken wire) inside the middle of the bin. This should help sift broken down material from new material, and actually allow for easy access to finished compost (as implied by the photos).

Considering the price, I would not recommend this product. It seems very fragile and we had to invest much more time/money into its assembly than anticipated, simply because it didn't provide what the photo and vague product description implied.

    Comments about Backyard Recycler:

My husband is very pleased with his gift. He had no trouble with assembly. We both like the easy access doors. Our granddaughter likes to dispose of her fruit peels etc.. Never too young to enjoy gardening etc.... We live in a rural area and the composter blends into the landscape.

    Comments about Backyard Recycler:

This one is big enough for everything from egg shells to heaps of fall leaves. I realized after ordering that I'll want it to be within easy reach of a hose, since I can't leave the lid open for moistening by rainfall. So I sited it in an open area, but it's so attractive I don't mind. I also like that the finished compost will be available from two sides.
