Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

I bought this for my mom's backyard. It's very easy to put yard scraps in it (grass clipping, leaves, etc) because of the large opening. Good air circulation and opening to the ground below seems to make the decomposition go very quickly.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

This is nice looking and holds a HUGE amount of leaves. I did need help setting it up, and we added more stakes. Four stakes just aren't enough. We also added zip-tie fasteners around the stakes for more stability. Once assembled and staked, it holds up well and wind won't blow it over. Also, this one costs less than others I have seen.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

I use this to store chopped up leaves for my compost bins. It is large and holds the leaves well, but I wish the "pins" holding it upright were not wood as I'm sure they'll rot with time. I wouldn't compost in this with the open bottom and top.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

This is a simple inexpensive, large capacity composter. It is easy to set up and is perfect for leaves, grass clippings and kitchen scraps can be worked into it. Turning the compost may be difficult for some but I find it's not too necessary because there is so much aeration through the sides and top. It produced perfect compost. I even bought a second one so I can have one finishing while I am filling the second. No other composter can compete in price or capacity.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

The heavy plastic panel are the right weight and construction but should be 1/3 longer for a bin diameter of four feet, the ideal size for a compost pile to heat up properly by protecting the bacteria from drying out or the pile to cool too quickly. The support system is too weak and I make a framework for the bin out of 4" concrete wire and then use this product as a liner. Now it stands on its own and is easy to slip up and off the pile, set to one side and the pile turned back into the bin making sure the outer leaves are turned into the center of the pile at each turning. Once a week is good exercise.

BIN WITH GOOD CAPACITY; PARTS MISSING

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

The anchoring system supplied with the composter is inadequate for a windy area--especially since the clip caps for the tops of the stakes were missing from the parts supplied with BOTH of the compost bins ordered. What should have been a short and simple assembly task became a more lengthy quest for a suitable alternate method of anchoring.

I am a garderner by blood...there were 12 in my family, so planting veggies was always in our back yard or we worked on the farms. I loved this compost and really need another one. Pros:
    Capacity
    Describe Yourself:
    Avid Gardener

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

The overall size and flexibility makes it easy to set up and use. The clips that hold the stakes to the top rim break easily. We have three unboken out of eight and have exercised great care in the assembly, especially with the second one. Please find another solution and send me clips to replace these!

I'm using these exclusively for leaves and am just filling them this fall so have no review of how durable the bins are or how well they aerate and compost the leaves. I have a large 3-bin composter which we made and use for kitchen and garden waste, which I layer with leaves, either fresh or composted.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

I use this product to finish the rough compost that comes out of my compost tumbler. All of my yard "waste" plus last years leaves go two weeks in the tumbler, then into this great product, where it finishes itself until spreading time. I have four in the back yard - two active and two for the next "tossing", which happens once a week (this not only aerates but is also excellent exercise). The flexible plastic material seems very strong, and the bin expands to match your pile size. Put your hand down six inches and feel the heat - this product really encourages complete composting!

Pros- price, fairly easy to put together
Cons- stakes are a laugh, if assembled as directed- they are not long enough to go beyond 2 inches into the ground. They are flimsy and useless. I had to stake mine with heavy duty oak stakes to get it to behave. You have to remove it totally from the pile to use the composted material.
For the price you get what you pay for.
    I would recommend with reservations.

I assembled the bin in less than half an hour, and began raking. I have fifteen acres, however, ten of those acres are wooded and don't need raking. The five that are fairly open, get the leaves from the other ten. I had the bin filled with leaves in about two hours. I followed the directions on the compost maker. Next week I ought to be able to put more leaves in. I love this.

I really like this thing, it was relatively easy to put together and does a super job holding old leaf mulch, winter cleanup and other yard waste. I put mine in easy reach of the vegie garden so I can throw in old potting soil and dead plants from last year and (I hope not) unsuccessful experiments from the new garden. It's close to the water source too and looks good.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

This item is ideal for our needs. We have a small (20' x 30') urban yard outside Boston surrounded by large maple trees. This results in 10-12 bags of leaves annually. Rather than buy bags and letting the city pick them up, we decided to mulch and compost them ourselves. The bin, when set up to its full size, EASILY holds all of our leaves, and most of our neighbor's as well. We also add household kitchen scraps and shredded paper that have partially degraded in our small ComposTumbler whenever that starts to get full. This provides us with a fairly well-balanced pile that should be active throughout the winter. I'd read about the need for better corner posts prior to purchase and just went to the local home center (the one that sponsors the No. 20 car and that whiney driver) and bought 4 steel green-painted fencing stakes for $2 or so apiece. These work perfectly. The compost bin is of a very heavy-gauge and seemingly sturdy plastic, and the nylon nuts and bolts supplied with it are excellent. I had it up by myself and was shoveling shredded leaves into it within 10 minutes. In the spring when the pile is (hopefully) reduced, I'll take the bin down and roll it up for summer storage and just set it up again next fall. All in all, this is a very nice little item that suits our needs perfectly. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a similar solution.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

I have been using the composter for about 3 weeks at a new home to better contain the compost pile I had started. Have not had enough time to evaluate how quickly it will compost, but it has very good capacity for yard waste, raked leaves, kitchen scraps. It was very easy to assemble, and I think the black color and style of the bin (solid-looking/expandable) are good since my backyard is very visible. I read complaints about the supports that came with the bin; so far, I haven't had trouble with them, but I did buy PVC piping in case I need stronger support in the future. I am not tall, but I bought a small pitchfork for turning/adding to the pile, and I've had no trouble with the height of the bin. So far, so good!

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

This product is good. I am happy with the product though the kit does need some improvement. The plastic clips that hold the supports on to the composter are cheap. Mine only came with 3 (supposed to be 4) and 2 were broken. Called customer service and they were very nice about replacing the supports. Easy to put up and use. Should come with extra clips and more nylon hardware.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

I love the fact that I can decide the shape or size this composter will take. The stakes are tall and sturdy, but the tops that hold the stakes to the sides fall off occasionally and don't hold the sides as securely as I had hoped. Otherwise, it's fabulous -- even my husband composts lawn waste, now that it's so easy.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

It it weird to have feelings for a compost bin? I have had a compost pile--emphasis on "pile" in my garden for many months now. It looked untidy and the wind would blow the dry, loose materials all over the yard. It was just uncooperative. Then I discovered the Big Bin Leaf Composter, and my life changed.

First, it is super simple to install. Just unroll the flexible, but sturdy, polyethylene material that creates the container, to the size youy want. DO NOT CUT IT TO SIZE--just overlap what you do not need. This way you can expand the bin as your needs grow.

Next, use the four stablizing stakes to keep it in place.

Finally, fill 'er up. With a capacity of 27 cubic feet, you will be able to make compost till the cows come home. And when they do, harvest a few cow pies to add to the mix.

Sigh...I just wish I could find a man that's as easy to understand, and dependable as my new composter.

Comments about Big Bin Leaf Composter:

In general this is a good product, but the poles or posts which come with it to support it are worthless - they bend immediately - the bin itself is good, and is well worth the money, just plan on buying some better poles at a feed store - I recommend the steel poles used for electric fences - they are sturdy and are quite inexpensive - even with the additional cost of buying posts, this is still a good buy
