    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

This composter is not made of very durable material. I don't expect it will last long. I bought it because it was inexpensive, but it is so cheaply made that the plastic was cracking as I snapped the sides together. The only thing nice about it is the spring on the lid that makes it easy to open when your hands are full. It's not even very attractive, because I had to use half a roll of duct tape to keep it from falling apart,

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I purchased one of these composters last year, and added another this year. Due to the racoons in the neighborhood, I used pavers against the four doors--this prevents the racoons from opening them at night and emptying the bins. So convenient. I added red worms this year to each bin and all yard & household waste is converted even more quickly than before. Great value!

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

When I first tried to put it together I didn't give myself enough room which made it nearly impossible, but once I moved to a larger open space it went together without a problem. Mine has held up to desert high winds, sun and harsh thunderstorms. I was concerened that I might have diffuculty aerating the compost because of my slight size but that has not been a problem. The compost seems to be coming along nicely

The corners don't fit right and very difficult to put together and keep together. I finally had to use large cable ties on the corners to keep it together. Product came with broken pieces which they quickly replaced (took 2 times to get all the parts though). Worked great when first starting out but once you actually fill it up or try to aerate it, it falls apart at the corners. Got so fed up that that I actually had to glue the corners. The corners slide together but they cannot handle any type of force.

    Looking to get a refund.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I bought this last year. The product wasn't difficult for me to put together, but I wouldn't say easy either. I had it about three quarters complete when I needed assistance holding it together while I finished it. The plastic "wires" that keep the lid from flying back pop out, but I have not really needed them and don't care if the lid were to flip back. The plastic pieces do not go together as well as it should, but it seems to work for me. Right now, my bin is a little better than half full and I don't need additional materials to keep it together. It seems to be holding up fine.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I've been trying to use this composter for 3 years now and still have not really had what I would consider a 'successful' batch. It was difficult to assemble and comes apart all the time -- after 3 years of putting it back together, I guess I've gotten the hang of it. I've even tried the gardener's "super hot" compost starter - still didn't get a good batch of compost. I was blaming it on living in the high dessert, but now that I've read other reviews, I think I'm going to poke some holes in the old garbage bin I've got and see if I don't get better results.

The "easy unloading" is actually not all that easy, unless you have enough room to put your composter in the middle of your yard, you really will only be able to get at the front and maybe one of the sides.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I would not recommend this item at all. It is impossible to put together by yourself & even once you get help putting it together, it will not stay together. Once you get one corner attached, the other corner pops off. I gave up with it 3/4 ways done, only to have the first windy day blow it over & break it apart completely! This item was the most frustrating thing I've come across in years. [...]. What a waste of money, might as well throw your money into it! I will probably end up building one out of wood myself instead.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

Plastic material flexes, and the corner joint releases (irreparably) when the composter is full of leaves. Impossible to fix at that point. Door panels also flex, and come off when a full load is in the bin. Might be okay half-full, but when filled to top with wetted leaves and grass clipping, sit will not last

Bought my first one in 2007 and have loved it-has cut down greatly on my kitchen & lawn waste and my flower beds & pots love what it produces. Just have to turn it over occasionally with my pitch fork and forget it. Would still have it if an accident with a hydraulic boom lift hadn't accidently crushed it a few weeks ago. So, I have purchased my second one. I think I will wait to put it in the yard until the trees have been finished being trimmed so nothing will happen to my new one.

This is pretty easy to use. We just keep dropping stuff into it. It's hard to stir though. It's also starting to fall apart. The orange plastic handle that you push to release the lid even snapped off in the cold this winter, so we have a brick on top to keep the lid down. The sides are starting to split too. We've had it for about 8 months now and it's a bit disappointing that it's starting to fall apart.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

This composter is assembled by slipping the sides into each other. This is a very difficult proccess. The sides are then held together at the top with four small plastic clips. These clips do not stay attached very well. Once a clip is gone, there is nothing to prevent the sides from coming apart, and come apart they will every time you aerate the pile or add a large amount of material to the compost bin.
The lid on top also warps making it difficult to open.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

A hassle to turn the compost.

While it is not that difficult to assemble it tends to come apart when trying to turn the compost. The only way to turn it without popping the sides apart is to open the bottom doors and dig it all out from the bottom then shovel it back in the top.

Others have said it is difficult to assemble but I had no problems at all and since it was a demo model I had no instructions. The hinge strap did break so had to take it apart and move the sides around.

This started out okay. It was a bit more difficult to stir up the compost. Then the sides started coming apart. I tried encircling it with twine, it lost its form again. Next my dad tried twine, fell apart again. Now my dad put wire in the corners and it hasn't fallen apart, but it is even harder to stir, because I catch on the wires. Also the lid never stayed on, it blew open all the time. We did keep a rock on it, but over the winter, we've lost the lid. We'll have to go searching our neighbor's yards when the snow melts.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

Once I get this composter together I think it will work well for me. I especially like the doors at the bottom for easy access.
The panels do not fit together properly so the top is not flush. The clips to hold the composter square cannot be attached because of this flaw.
I will get my college-aged son to work on it so that I can begin composting soon.

This is inexpensive but is pretty flimsy. It took me an my husband lots of time to set up because we'd attach a panel and then it would come off. We finally got it together. So expect a bit of frustration. But I was pleased with the price and it is getting me started in my new composting endeavors.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

Assembly not intuitive. Wish I had read other reviews before buying as it is difficult to get hard plastic pieces to fit over various tabs. Once I reviewed assembly instructions, got the sides together. Still working on the pop open lid. Don't think I'll ever get the red plastic tabs to slide over the corners, though. Too much flex in them and too bulky for the precise fit needed for hard plastic tabs. Will it do the job? Time will tell.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I bought this composter because our old composter had big holes that the rats kept getting into. This one appeared to be better suited to our needs. In fact, it does have rat-size holes, but after I sealed off the holes on the sliding doors, and the holes at the bottom, the rats now seem not to have found a way into it. So, so far it is working. However it is quite a bit lighter, that is, flimsier, than our old one. And the clever mechanism that locks the sides in place comes apart if I rock the box (for example cutting apart yard waste with a shovel after it is inside the composter). Bottom line, it works fine, but requires more gentle treatment than I think a durable garden tool should require.

A good beginner level composter. The pyramid composter is a better product, i think, but this certainly a good place to start. It took some work and minor aggravation to get it together, but once it's set up it works just fine. The pop open lid is a nice touch.

    Bottom Line:

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

Assembly was somewhat tricky which required inserting tabs into depressions to secure the panels together to make the "box". But once I got it assembled I thought it worked quite well, until about 4 months later when it was about 1/2 full it started to bust at the panel seams. There is no way this unit is going to remain intact, it just won't hold the load of the compost and stay together. It's a poor design and I would not buy it even on sale. I have a different composter that is about 10 years old that remains as good as new.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

The product went together fairly easily, but within a week, had blown across the yard. We tacked it down with tent stakes - it has no bottom, so it basically just sits OVER the compost. When I tried to turn the mulch with a pitchfork, I leaned against the side, and it popped right off. During a recent thunderstorm, we awoke to find the entire composter blown apart and half-done compost strewn about and exposed to the elements. And not very pleasant-smelling. We will be buying another composter, but not this one again.

This is our second composter and, though we love the first (barrell type), we are very disappointed with this one. The lower doors are not secured well enough, so the squirrels can easily remove the doors. We have had multiple occasions where we are picking up compost materials strewn all over our yard. They are also able to chew through the vents in the sides.

I use the product for kitchen scraps and yard waste. We had not had the product for even a month when the hinges connecting two of the sides broke. My husband drilled holes in each of the sides and wired them together. The same thing happened recently to two of the other sides.

Stirring the compost is also difficult because the bin is deep and wide. It is necessary to stir to avoid maggots and to speed the composting process.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

We bought the composter to help our neighbor. He's trying to sell his house and our open pile system wasn't very attractive. The composter had a lot of flash (leftover plastic along it's edges that wasn't trimmed off after the manufacturing process). This made it a little rough on my fingertips when putting it together but didn't interfer with assembly. I did notice that when we filled it a lot of material collected around the hinges. I didn't have a brush handy so it took a little time to clean the area enough so we could close the lid properly. Maybe a soft plastic cover over the hinges would be helpful. But all in all it's a great size and very easy to use. And it looks much better than our old system. I'm very happy with it, and so is our neighbor.

I'm new to composting and this is very easy to use. The wide top opening makes it easy to get a pitch fork in to mix and also to add more waste. Although it's not anywhere near full, I already get the smell of rich compost when I open it. One potential drawback is the lid which snaps open very quickly when unlatched and may break the plastic hinges. To prevent damage, I hold my full hand over the lid, unlatch with the other, then take the lid with my free hand and raise it more slowly. Overall, I like the composter and am glad I purchased it.

I am disappointed as the sides don't stay together. I have had to empty the contents on to a tarp, take the composter apart and put the whole thing back together and put everything back into the composter. I wish that I would have purchased another product.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I bought the composter to help reduce the organic waste I was putting the the garbage and for a place to put my yard waste. The capacity is good but the construction is not. During assembly, one of the pieces holding the corners together broke very easily. Now the composter comes apart at the corner all of the time and I have to try to slide the corner back together. I was dissapointed that the plastic of this wasn't stronger.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

A pain to put together. Then when you walk up to dump some materials into it, you need two hands to deal with the "easy" open lid! One to push the button and the other to pull the lid up--does not function as advertised. Not sure about how the compost will turn out--haven't gotten that far yet...we'll see....

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

The orange hinge in the left back, cracked after about 3 weeks. The tie down straps that hold the top, constantly came off. Aerating is difficult when there are vegetable scraps in the composter. I thought the composter was easy to assemble, it took me and my husband almost an hour to get the sides to stay together, because the side tabs would not interlock as per your directions. We ended up putting a bunge cord on the bottom to hold it together. I'm really disappointed in the construction and quality.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I like the flip-up lid, which makes it easy to use when I'm carrying down full compost buckets for dumping. Don't like that there are big holes (on the handles for the lower doors/leaf scoops) that are big enough for pests (racoons, skunks?) to get into the compost.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

This composter is made of flimsy plastic and was difficult to snap together. The attachments to keep the lid from flying off keep coming off, so I have to be careful when I open it up. Other than that, I haven't had it long enough to see how well it composts. It does have a larger capacity than it looks. Overall, now that it's in it's place, never to be moved, I am somewhat satisfied with the product.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I was not impressed by this product. It looks much better in the picture than in actuality. When I got it all set up, I was disappointed in how unattractive it looked. It seemed like it would be easy to assemble, but as soon as I got one side put together, and began working on the next side, the first side would pop apart! This happened several times before I finally managed to outwit it. It has a nice large capacity, which is why I bought it, as well as inventive doors which double as leaf scoops.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

Getting this composter assembled properly was something of a challenge. At first it seemed easy but it also fell apart. After a few tries it is tight and doing it's job. The little doors on the bottom come off very easily and you have to watch that. But it is serving it's purpose. I would recommend it but be patient in assembling it.

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I am an avid gardner who had been looking for the right composter for my lifestyle. I chose this one because it did not look like it required alot of work (and it does not) but the instruction manuel does no give a very defined list of things that you can compost (like teabags? and all newspaper) the design is not bulky and fits in my outdoor theme very well. I am anxious to see what king of compost that it produces.

    Bottom Line:

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

The capacity of this composter is quite high - I was able to put in the unfinished compost from my former "heap", as well as adding additional pulled weeds, lawn clippings, and organic kitchen waste, and not over-fill it. It seems to keep the compost hot.
One con - The plastic "strings" that are suppost to keep the spring-loaded lid from flying back all the way keep on coming loose. Otherwise, a good, well-designed composter.

    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Easy-Open Composter:

I was disappointed in this product. However, I continue to use it for composting. It's just not in the same condition that it arrived in. It was difficult to assemble and won't stay connected at the sides so I've tied to together. I do like using the side doors for scoops when picking up leaves in the fall. The body plastic is OK, but the "bell and whistles" plastic has not held up to freezing temps. My recommendation would be that if you can spend a little more money, get a better composter.
