This product works great. I use it regulary and never have odors. It holds plenty of kitchen scraps,eggshells and coffee grinds. I cannot recommend this product enough. I put two plastic grocery bags to line it and it still closes perfectly.

I debated buying a pretty top-of-counter pail or this not-so-pretty inside cabinet pail, and opted for this one. I like it. It does a nice job of collecting things for the composter, and it does keep the stuff from smelling until I get it outside. We use this bucket for all of our compostable kitchen scraps. The size is great for our family of 6 so that we only need to empty it 1or 2 times per week. We love that it's durable since we have small children, and very hard granite countertops. It's not as attractive as a ceramic pail, but I can easily put it under the sink when we have company over. It's lightweight, easy to carry, and very easy to clean. It's nice that the lid stays attached and will stay open by itself as well. And, the price can't be beat. Although the neutral color is fine, it would be nice if there were more color options.

I bought this bucket because I was tired of my husband throwing out my compost that I placed in an open container before taking outside. :) Problem solved with this product. I get to take my compost out every few days and the hubby doesn't have to see it. The bucket is large and easy to open and close. If you do not use bags it does need to be cleaned and wiped down so there will not be an odor. I can't really comment on the actual composting ability of this bucked becasue I use it mostly for transport. I enjoyed this so much I bought one for my father.

I purchased this product for compostable recycling here in San Francisco because it is described as air tight. Other similar products allowed for air circulation and therefore were more suseptable to flies and maggots. I say so far so good because it is still winter and we have little problem with flies this time of year. I reserve final judgement until summer. If it keeps the maggots out during hot summer weather, then I will give it 5 stars.

I love my new compost pail. I previously had a ceramic pail, but it fell and broke, so this time I found this plastic one and it is great! My husband and I have had so many arguments over composting kitchen scraps. He can't stand the smell and seeing them, even for a day, and if I put the bowl outside the kitchen door, raccoons get into it at night. This pail was the perfect solution. It holds enough compost for a week, so I don't have to go out to the composter every night, but it doesn't stink. I still leave it just outside the kitchen door, but since it clicks shut & contains odor, the racoons have left it alone.

This is a sturdy little pail that seals well so no fly problem. Capacity is reasonable for the kitchen. The lid will stay open as in the picture, but it takes two hands to lock it in that position, so have to open it 1st before you put your scraps in.

I do not have a garbage disposal, so this container works well for all my food scraps. I do use a plastic bag inside of it to make it easy to take trash to the garbage can, but I really like this product...roomy and keeps odors out of the kitchen.

A sturdy no frills bucket for storing kitchen compostables before taking them out to the pile. I would be happier with a lid that removes fully; it is somewhat cumbersome to empty because the lid gets in the way. I'll be interested to see how long the little plastic tabs that keep the lid open for filling last--I've had several versions of Gardeners Supply's plastic compost pails, and eventually some little part of the top breaks off, making the pail essentially useless.

I make salads five days a week and this is the perfect size to collect my scraps for the week and transport to the compost. The tight closure does not allow odors to leak out during this time frame nor does it absorb the odors. I was skeptical of using a plastic product but so far it's performance is great and I hope it's qualities last a long time.

This pail has it all - a nice size, fits under my sink counter and hides away. It has no odor despite the fact it doesn't use a filter. Holds a lot - coffee ground, scraps, and we only have to empty it into our larger outdoor compost about once per week. Easy to clean since it's heavy molded plastic. Love this product.

This is the first compost pail I've bought and like this one. The lid has a stop point where the lid will stay open to fill the container. The pail has a large capacity and I use store plastic bags as a liner. The handle is also a nice feature. This is the one to buy!

This pail was just the right size to fit under my kitchen sink and pull out to use when I'm cleaning up. It's easy to open and clicks shut tightly. The wide opening makes it easy to load all my cooking and meal scraps. I like the fact that it is plastic instead of ceramic so I don't have to worry about breaking it when I'm using it or taking it outside. The carry handle is nice to have for that as well. Most the cute ceramic ones don't have a handle.

This composter is made of sturdy plastic, neutral colors & the lid really does stay open! We love that it's fairly large and being vegans we appreciate that it holds lots & lots of veggie scraps reducing trips out to the garden composter. However, it does need a bit more counter space, so if your kitchen is very small that is definitely a consideration.

I set this pail under my sink for easy access during food preparations. It would look attractive on the counter; I prefer a clutter free look, though, and that is why I put it under the sink. One of the best features is the adjustable lid. It can be "clicked" to an upright position to allow easy disposal of scraps. When the lid is shut, there is NO odor. The plastic does seem to retain an odor, but that is only detectable when the lid is open after I empty the contents into my larger year-round compost bin. I have not tried thoroughly cleaning it between uses to get rid of the odor because that seems pointless--once the lid is shut, no odors!

We've been composting kitchen scraps for 8+ years and have gone through several compost bins. We had the pretty white ceramic one for on top of the counter that was too heavy and chipped easily. Then we had the big green one with the charcoal filters. It last a long time, but the top finally broke. This one is much better than the others- wide opening for scraping plates, lid stays open on it's own for easier filing, lid clamps shut well, and lightweight. And the price is great! Thanks Gardener's Supply!

We use this pail for putting our daily kitchen garbage scraps in and then when it gets full(in about 1 week)we dump it in our big outside compost bin. We love it because it stays open while we scrape the food from our dishes into it and then lid snaps shut. The neutral color goes very well with our kitchen. Very satisfied with this pail.

This kitchen compost pail is lightweight, inexpensive and its neutral color blends in with my kitchen. It can also be hung up. The lid latches very well and there is no assembly or pieces to come off and loose. I also love the fact it is dishwasher safe. I have seen prettier stainless steel ones, but they are heavier and smudge, and often have separate parts which require care.
For our vegan family of 3-4, it will hold a weeks worth of kitchen scraps, mostly salad, garlic, onion and banana, lemon , sweet potato and avocado peels. I find I get more mileage out of it by chopping things up with a knife before adding. When it is half full, I push down and stir it to blend it, so it and breaks down better. This way it provides additional space to put more in as it shrinks. I noticed some mold within a weeks time. However, odor was kept at bay by adding the garlic or lemon that we use at various times during the week. Overall, I am very happy to have this inexpensive solution, as I hated using plastic bags. You can easily rinse this out quickly by hand to reuse. I like the fact it is not wasteful and is practical. Also, it would makes a different holiday gift for other avid gardeners.
The only downside if any may be the need for two if one fills us too quickly, but at this price, I do not see that as any huge problem as the size being not overly large to begin with enables them to be stored conveniently in so many places. I would not want one really big one because it would be heavy and not look attractive on my counter top. You could put larger pieces of vegetables and fruits, cabbage and broccoli in a separate container making the best use of two. All is all, I am extremely pleased with this purchase.
