Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

Really enjoy my trips to the compost pile. The copper pail holds a lot of stuff. I know the copper on the inside will deteriorate quickly because I don't use a liner, but I'm sure it will keep looking great on the outside. Like the way the lid sits tight on the pale - maybe fewer fruit flies this summer.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

It is as beautiful in person as in the picture. It holds approximately one week of kitchen scraps for our family of four. As we are "hole" composting in an area being readied for raised beds, it is the perfect size for my son to practice his two-foot hole digging skills! Thanks for selling great products.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

As the mother of 5 children, I collect a large amount of kitchen scraps. I had been collecting them in a plastic kitchen container, but the lid was difficult to remove one-handed and it was unattractive on the countertop. This copper pail arrived in the mail and I was thrilled! It is a good size; large enough to fit all my daily scraps, but small enough to fit nicely under the cabinets. The lid is easy to remove with one hand and fits well enough that there is no odor. Great product!

The pail sits in my kitchen and is not only beautiful to look at, but perfect for my needs, ie to carry my compost scraps to the green bin. The capacity is perfect so that I can take it out every other day, and it's not so big that it gets too heavy. I cut a paper towel into quarters and leave one in the bottom which makes it very easy to keep clean.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I gave this as a gift to my son and his wife. They love it! It has replaced a clear plastic tub sitting on the kitchen counter which they used for collecting kitchen scraps. This holds more, looks incredibly attractive and doesn't smell! The fact that it is unbreakable is a great plus. My son can tap it against his compost bin in the backyard without worry of it breaking. And his two-year-old can carry it without fear of any injury.

NOT Dishwasher-safe
By Genoa Deby from Genoa NV on 4/24/2011
Pros:
Attractive at First, Capacity, Easy Assembly, Odor Free
Cons:
Copper Oxidizes, Metal Breaks Down, Mulch Not Fine Enough, Needs Solution Added
Best Uses:
Kitchen Scraps
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This initially attractive, large capacity kitchen composter oxidizes way too quickly (particularly considering that it's not real copper) is NOT dishwasher-safe at all stains heavily on the inside. The cheap metal deteriorates and pits, the finish comes off and unless you are okay with that in the design of your kitchen, would be a very poor choice. There are no aeration holes for true decomposition in this container. Overall, the only plus is the large capacity. Any copper container with a loose fitting lid would work just as well though. The composter on the left has been run through the dishwasher; the composter on the right has not. Both are less than a year old.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

It looks great on my kitchen counter. I don't mind having it there and being seen. While it doesn't have anything for the odors, that hasn't been a problem for me. I haven't used the bags yet because I don't have my composter yet and I'm sure they'd melt in my garbage can so I'm using brown plastic bags which work great.

When we had to replace our old indoor compost container, I saw this one and coveted it but didn't buy it because it was $10 more than the others. When I went back to purchase, it was marked down. Yippee!

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This product virtually eliminates everything negative about composting kitchen waste. I asked for a nice looking countertop compost for my birthday a few years ago, and my mother had seen one of these at a friend's house and bought it for me. My sister, who comes over a lot, fell in love with it, and asked for one for HER birthday. My mother moved a year later, and had to leave her "in drawer" kitchen composter, so she asked for one for HER birthday. We all still adore our copper compost pails. It's a wonderful gift, a wonderful product- so well designed, beautiful and not smelly at all. It makes composting a joy.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I first looked locally for a countertop compost that would fit my needs but after not finding what I was looking for I decided to look online. Even online I noticed that everything I found was either: A) cute but not large enough or B) had enough room but looked industrial. This is a beautiful piece that will work well if you create a lot of compost. It is also easy to clean - I just spray it out in the sink with hot water every time I empty it and - so far so good - no odor!

I wanted a pail type container to hold our compost until we could take it to the compost pile. The copper is absolutely perfect for my kitchen. But the part I like best is that it's not a breakable pottery and carries just like a pail making it quite easy. It holds quite a bit and is perfect for us.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

We were given one as a present. We liked it enough to give another one as a gift.
People who complain about the smell should empty the bucket. It is not for making compost in the house.
The finish is a thin plating of copper. You cannot expect the inside to stay pristine. It is a compost bucket after all, not a dining room decoration. Just don't use steel wool to clean.
Good size. Lid fits, not an airtight seal. But when it smells, empty it. How lazy can you get?

A sophisticated way to hide kitchen scraps, and it is very pretty to look at. Took the advice of other reviewers and got biobags to line it in case it leaks (haven't had that problem yet), but that just makes it easier since I don't have to rinse the container.

This is a nice looking compost pail that fits the style of our kitchen well. There are over-priced "one-size-fits-all" compostable liner bags available, but we are lining it with used produce bags instead. They are a perfect fit, free, and now get used twice rather than once.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

The Copper Finish Compost Pail sits on a black granite countertop in a genuine log cabin and looks so beautiful that new guests recognize this new addition to the kitchen and invariably express compliments. The pail's depth is more than adequate to accept the residuals of the most heavily trimmed vegetables. I've broken several ceramic compost containers while delivering trimmings and coffee grounds to the garden compost during winter months. This pail is not only made to last, it is beautiful as well as efficient.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I had read reviews about leaking and smells and yes, you should empty it every two to three days and at least occasionally wash - or at least rinse - it out, but it's the best looking compost pail/holder I've seen! It is losing some copper color from the inside bottom so I wish there was more protection there, but it really is a good looking piece and feels pretty solid.
I've only had it about a month so "time will tell, but for now, it looks like a good investment and still looks good!

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I have had many types of compost pails over the years both plain pails and fancier ones with odor filters. All have been relatively easy to clean and attractive, but all have had disadvantages as well. I wanted a larger capacity pail to use with biobags. Metal pails are lighter and less likely to hold odors. This one is attractive and simple and should be easy to clean. We'll see how to holds up over time.

Looks beautiful. It is supposed to be dishwasher-safe and keep its copper finish. I loved it until it started to smell and I had to put it in the dishwasher. The finish was not as pretty as before and it leaks - making it unusable after only a year or so. I'm very disappointed. It looked great in my kitchen and was easy to to use and very handy to have when cooking.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I use this pail to take my kitchen scraps to my large composter in the backyard. Before I was using a plastic plate which held little and scraps were falling on the floor. This pail, although on the heavy side, is large enough for lots of scraps and keeps them hidden until it's time to empty the pail. It's easy to keep clean as well. I also like the attractive design and finish.

years ago, i purchased a solid copper bucket from here. recently, we decided to add a 2nd bucket to our kitchen for chicken scraps so i came here and purchased this bucket, noticing it was different but thought it would be ok.

well, about a month later, the finish is rubbing off. what happened to the promise "Copper finish will keep its shine and color over time"?! if i'd have wanted a stainless steel bucket, i would have purchased one elsewhere for a lot less. what a rip off! same price as before, but now without quality.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This looks gorgeous when you take it out of the box, and no one would believe it's a compost pail. It looks more like a lovely, expensive ice bucket. But over a few months, the copper coating begins to deteriorate and come off, so that you're left with a mottled silver, green, and brown mess. Mine also leaks all over the kitchen counter, and draws ants (which a simple closed Cool Whip bowl full of scraps does not). I would not recommend.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This is a good pail and the size is perfect for our family. However, this is not copper metal. It is copper finish. The compost will react with the metal finish and the metal and will emit a smell especially if you leave it sit. You should definitively use compostable bags with this pail. I also purchased some odor disks to put in the bottom of the pail. That also keeps the odor down. Overall a good unit with precautions.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

We compost all natural scraps and I could never, ever get my husband to put the ugly tuperware container in a cupboard. We have copper accents so this is a perfect compliment to kitchen. We empty this whenever it gets full, which is maybe every other day so there is no real composting going on. We've had no odor problems, no leaking, no real deteriation. The inside finish is now starting to wear but its over a year old so I expect that. All in all - we love it.

I bought 2 of these. While the compost does not smell with the lid on, the clean pail smells with the lid off, even when it has gone through the dishwasher 3 times. They both got holes in them after only a few months of use. Now they leak compost juice all over the counter. I am still using them with a plate under them, but what a pain! The handle on one has lost paint in places and is rusty.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I use the compost pail on my kitchen counter near the sink. We put all of our compostable kitchen waste in it and take it out to the compost pile almost daily. I think the people having trouble with it are either not emptying it frequently enough or they are actually trying to compost in it. I don't think that is what it is intended for. I really like the compost pail. It is exactly what I wanted. The only thing wrong with it is that the paint on the inside is peeling off. That obviously doesn't harm the way it looks but I don't want paint in my compost.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I bought this as a gift to my son and daughter in law as he started a compost pile a year and 1/2 ago and they were keeping their kitchen scraps in a plastic cottage cheese container until taken to the compost. So, I thought they could really use this and since she likes pretty things in her kitchen but is very particular and has classy good taste she would like this. They both seemed to like it really well and my son says it is very functional and easy to use. Even though the lid does not lock in place it fits very tight and well and no odor noted at all he says. I thought it was very beautiful for her and functional for him as it won't break on trips he takes to the compost like a ceramic one would. It would also make a nice ice bucket for wine or a holder for kindling at a fireplace and look good.

I have exchanged this pail 3 times - the first time it started tarnishing within a month so I exchanged it for a new one,. which was tarnished on arrival so I requested another exchange. When I got the 3rd one, I sprayed it with a clear varnish inside and out. I thought I had the corrosion fixed until it started leaking all over the counter 4 months later - the bottom had corroded all the way through in one place. [...]

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

We bought this bucket to replace the cobalt blue ceramic one we also purchased from Gardeners Supply. (It was chipped on the bottom and lid from daily use.) This has much lighter weight and greater capacity, so trips to the composter are less frequent. We have not had the peeling the other reviewers have reported so far. I have not seen any faults with this product at all.

This model works much better than the last version I'd purchased. The bags are easy to remove (as they got stuck in the old model . ..since the top was more narrow than the belly of the crock). This style is easier to load (wide top) and unload. I would highly recommend it for kitchen use.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I bought this a few years back. It looks nice on the counter but I don't store my compost on the kitchen counter. I have a large garden and because of that generate a lot of compost. I found I was emptying this every day, sometimes every meal. After a few months usage the interior started to corrode, doesn't take fruit scraps very well. I also didn't like the lid since it didn't fit tightly and attracts fruit flies. To be honest, I put this in a garage sale and am perfectly happy with plastic Ice cream buckets, they store a lot, the lid fits tightly, goes in the dishwasher, are free, and when they break I can recycle them. I store the bucket under the sink so I don't care what it looks like. I compost in a large 3 bin compost bin which has yard, garden and kitchen scraps.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I bought this as a gift for my husband, after 14 days of use one of the rivets on the handle is already coming out. Now to decide if I want to fix the rivet or pay to have it shipped back for exchange. I didn't think that would happen after only 2 weeks. This looks great in my kitchen though, but does need something put beneath so it doesn't scrape your counter. The lid, even though it just sits on top, stays on tight and doesn't let any odors out. It holds quite a bit and is easy to dump out and clean. Other than the handle coming off I am pleased.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This is a beautiful looking pail and I was so happy when it arrived about a year ago! However, my husband and I just began to notice a ring on our kitchen floor and have now noticed that the pail leaks. We empty it when the pail gets full, and there are times when coffee grounds from the french press go into the pail with a small amount of liquid. The pail is metal and shouldn't leak, so I'm very disappointed in it. Today I'm on line looking for a substitute since this pail is now in the garbage.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

We purchased one of these pails from you a couple of years ago and needed a second one to provide extra capacity before taking out the scraps to the compost pile. The pail has an excellent capacity, but we just generate so much kitchen scrap that a second one was needed. The two best things about the product is it's sturdiness and ease to clean - squirt it out with the hose on the way in from the pile and its good to go!

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

Great for collecting kitchen waste and tossing it into the compost pile every few days. Looks nice and hasn't corroded. Don't bother with bags because it's easy to rinse out. The lid seats on the bucket well so smells and fruit flies have not been a problem. The only very minor complaint might be its somewhat overzealous, heavy duty handle (can be a bit noisy). There is some kind of clearcoat or nonstick-like finish on the metal that makes cleaning a breeze, so we'll see how it holds up over time.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I really liked the product, but after 8 months of use it's starting to leak onto my kitchen counter. I don't empty the pail on a regular basis, just when it's full... so water does seep out of the biobag liners onto the pail itself. Today when I emptied it, I noticed that the paint at the bottom of the inside of the pail has begun to bubble and peel. The only complaint I have about smell, would be a metallic odor left on my hands after emptying the pail.

Leaky Pail

Pros:
Attractive
Cons:
Cheap finish, Leaky
Best Uses:
Kitchen Scraps
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

The copper finish came off almost immediately with the first washing. So much for long lasting and developing a nice patina with time. The "stainless steel" core is thin and cheap. Very quickly the seam along the bottom started to rust. Then the pail began to leak in multiple spots, along the bottom seam and randomly on the sides. Holding the pail up to the sunlight reveals dozens of pin holes. Coffee grounds, vegetable scraps and egg shells make great compost & worm food, but also make for a disgusting mess when it leaks from this pail all over your kitchen counter. This is a poorly made product that will soon disappoint. [...] ... I've bought lots of other things from Gardeners in the past. They were OK, but not stellar. Maybe someone else will offer better products with better service.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This compost pail is almost too attractive to fill with scraps--I hate to hide it under the sink because it's gorgeous! It holds enough kitchen scraps from *at least* two days' worth of meals so I'm not constantly running out to empty it. The lids fits tightly, so there is no odor at all, and the handles are attached well and in no danger of falling off as with some other crocks I've seen. I also love the fact that it won't break if I drop it. This is simply a beautiful and well-made container, and it is definitely worth the price.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

My brother gave us a compost bin last holiday season, so I bought this kitchen container as an incentive to start composting by having something attractive with easy access in the kitchen rather than using a plastic tub or big coffee can. It's really beautiful--matches our copper sink--and the capacity is terrific, such that we only have to empty it once or twice/week (and we make a lot of kitchen scraps). Other reviewers complained a bit about the interior surface eroding, and while that hasn't happened yet (we've been using this for about a month now), even if it does, I think we'll still be happy with the purchase. The handle is sturdy too, which is nice, and so far the lid rests securely on the top and doesn't emit odor, my biggest concern about buying a pail without a filter. We are very pleased with this purchase!

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This compost pail is very attractive, the right size for a family of 3-5, and seems quite durable. The lid does not fit tightly though; indeed it just "rests" atop the pail. So far it doesn't seem to be letting fruit flies in or odors out, but is not what I had expected. So a nice pail, but room for improvement.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This is a very attractive Chinese-produced copper vessel that matches our hammered copper sink perfectly. Our last try at a compost pail was a ceramic product with a flaky handle that eventually was dropped and broke. This one is robustly built and does an excellent job. The only down side is it has no deodorizer in the top, and can get a little stinky if not emptied often.

My family just started composting this spring, so this is our first kitchen scrap collector (other than an ordinary bowl). I love the size of this pail. We can fit a few days worth of scraps in it before dumping it in to our composter. We haven't had any problems with odors even without a charcoal filter, although I would have preferred to have that option. I really like the finish and think it looks attractive on our kitchen counter.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This is one of the most attractive kitchen compost pails out there, and a great size. I only use it as temporary storage, mainly for kitchen scraps, which I then dump in the main compost bin outside. You do need to clean it out every so often due to sludge/smell build-up. I haven't tried aerating it or composting in the house, so I can't speak to those aspects. But I love the size-- you can actually use it for a few days to a week in the kitchen before it fills up and you have to dump it outside.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

It looks great on the counter. I'm hoping the top fits tight enough to prevent those obnoxious fruit flies which were not a problem with the container I had before. The handle design is a bit cumbersome on the counter, enlarges the footprint which it isn't needed. More to report as the summer approaches, but for now it seems well made and it's doing its job.

This copper pail is heavy-duty, well-designed and looks great! While this may sound silly, I admire the pail more and more every time I make the trip to the compost bin to empty it. I also bought the biodegradable bags to go with it, and they fit perfectly.

I was surprised at how much compostable waste we had been putting in our garbage or down the disposal before getting this pail. Odor hasn't been a problem, but we fill it almost every other day so it doesn't have much of a chance.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I use this compost bucket every day, and store it under my counter. It is larger than my previous ceramic one and the lid is tight enough to be odor-free. It is really pretty and the handle is sturdy. I line it with recycled fruit and veggie bags, which makes it easy to dump the scraps into my outdoor composter. Then I throw the used bag away.

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

This is a really lovely container. It looks great on our countertop and can hold a couple days of kitchen scraps. The only down side is that the copper on the inside bottom of container has peeled off. I liked the fact that I could put it in the dishwasher, but since the copper bottom has peeled off, I now hand wash it. Still, I would buy it again and if I thought it compromised the function of the container, I would have asked for a replacement or refund. So far, so good.

This is absolutely beautiful on the counter, and the handle is hefty enough for me to carry it across the field to my compost pile. As someone else posted, it did discolor fairly easily on the inside (perhaps due to the acids? We put a lot of fruit scraps in there). But, as long as the outside stays nice, I'm just thrilled with this!

The pail is the perfect size to sit along side your cutting board. It can hold a whole days scraps. Easy to clean and I just love the copper which fits with all my copper pots and pans. Has a nice weight to it (not cheap tin) and the handle is very strong.

I love it !

This is gorgeous. Handle makes it easy to carry out to the compost pile. Tall and narrow means that it holds alot but doesn't take up too much counter space. Lid fits well so those little fruit flies can't get in. Worth the money.

This is a great pail! It looks nice in my rustic kitchen! I also purchased biobags which fit this pail nicely. The only problem is there is no where to put a carbon filter, so sometimes it gets stinky.
Otherwise, I love it!

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

I keep this pail on the counter in my kitchen; it goes perfectly with the country/copper decor. (Which is why I was willing to spend a bit more for it and stop using an old coffee can, lol.) Although there's nowhere to put a carbon filter under the pail's lid, smells haven't been an issue, even in summer with no air conditioning. The pail holds a week's worth or more of compostables for a family of 3. The price is a little high, otherwise I'd have rated it 5 stars.

This has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen. It is so pretty and stays right near the sink - because it is so accessible the whole family now puts the food waster in there! The rim of the lid really keeps the smell down, add a BioBag as a liner and you have a great solution to food waste in the kitchen!

Comments about Copper Finish Compost Pail:

My mom was tired of my dad leaving his household compost on the kitchen counter in various containers. I bought this because it is attractive (slender enough that it doesn't take up too much counter space), needed no extra equipment, larger capacity, and easy to carry out to the compost pile. Best design for the money. Oh, I just bought one for my house too!
