Comments about Kitchen Crock Filters, Set of 2:

We have been using the compost crock in the kitchen for a couple of years now.It replaced a topless Tupperware bowl that we had always used. The crock is nice ,but it is the filter that makes it great. We were gone for a few days, and emptying the compost crock was over looked. We returned to a kitchen that smelled fresh ,but when the top came off the crock the smell knocked your socks off. The charcoal filter does the job, even when getting old . I like it very much.

Comments about Kitchen Crock Filters, Set of 2:

I purchased the kitchen crock several years ago. Now I get replacement filters, enough to last for several months. Since I am a vegan, I have no kitchen waste that won't compost. The crock (with a filter) is odorless and looks attractive. The only problem with the outside compost is that it attracts raccoons, skunks, and breeding (warmth) snakes. I only empty the kitchen crock during daylight hours! The filters are washable, so each one lasts for more than one use.

Compost crock is kept near sink to receive much of the waste formerly sent down the disposal. The filters keep the odors down except when the crock is opened to receive a new deposit. Using the filters with the crock is helping us enrich our soil in the various flower beds around our house.

New problem with filters
By LindyVerified Purchaser from St Petersburg Florida on 10/25/2010
Pros:
Odor Free

Comments about Kitchen Crock Filters, Set of 2:

Mold is accumulating on the filter. Have not had trouble with this previously. Have been using the crock for several years with what I thought were the same kind of filters, purchased from you.

I do wish I could purchase the filters locally. Paying the postage and handling for such a small item makes the filters expensive, especially if I am going to have to change them so frequently because of the mold.

I purchased these to keep on hand as refills. I am very pleased with the filter that came with the compost bucket I purchased awhile back. I wanted to have these on hand for refills. I now have the complete system, the compost bucket, which is mounted on the inside of my cabnet door under my sink, the carbon filter and the biodegradable bags. I put my scraps directly into the bagged bucket and close it. The carbon filter stops the odor, and I can take bag and all out to the composter.

Comments about Kitchen Crock Filters, Set of 2:

Too late I discovered the original filter in my crock is as large as the entire cover and is held in place by its snug fit. The Gardener Supply filters are just large enough to cover the holes in the lid, so I have to keep them in place w/ duct tape...which occasionally breaks loose...not recommended unless you come up with a better fix.

We use these carbon filters in the stainless steel compost crock we purchased from Gardener's years ago. The filters eliminate odors from leaking out of the crock and outlive their expected useful life. We own and operate a very busy compost business so composting is our way of life. The combination of this crock and the filters are so successful that many visitng guests notice it on our kitchen counter and soon after buy one for themselves.

The filters were made for and fit the metal kitchen compost collector that I also purchased here. We have really tested these filters several times when we left home for several days without emptying the container first. We came home to find great amounts of mold and decay happening in the bucket, but only after we opened it to LOOK at the contents. You would never had known because there was NO odor!

It's hard to wax poetic about a carbon filter. One truism is that this product doesn't stink. They definitely make a sometimes unpleasant job into one that does not become fragrant with time. Scraps in the crock are now less obvious than when we were using the garbage disposal. A lot less water usage too.

This works so well. I'm new at composting and it is so convenient to sit on my counter and use as a "garbage bowl" while I'm preparing meals. I can empty it right outside my kitchen door into my composter and it NEVER smells up the house.
It has reduced my garbage bills (we have to buy stickers for $3.45 for each garbage can) as I compost most of my garbage now and the recycling is free. Now I only put out 1 can a month instead of a week. It's great.

Comments about Kitchen Crock Filters, Set of 2:

I've had my compost crock on the countertop for eight years and have used, oh, a handful or so of these filters, mainly because I start to pity them their long service, not because they start leaking odors. The only time we had odor was when some helpful neophyte accidentally dumped the carbon filter with the compost. After a day or two of strange smells, I looked under the lid to see what was wrong with the filter, and found nothing! (The intact filter turned up later on a pitchfork.) Inevitably, some food gets stuck to the mesh when we stuff the compost crock to the top, and that food may get moldy. A little flick and rinse is helpful. So is looking away. Even with accumulated food-flecks that stick to crock or filter, these little dandies block the odors of coffee grounds, garlic, rotting tomatoes, etc for all the months we leave them in place. Dandy product, outlasting description. Way to go, Gardener's Supply.
