I use this to work into my garden soil in the spring. It is great.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Coir has so many uses, I wish it was cheaper. I use it in such quantity that the price adds up. I use it as a base for worm composting. I add it to potting soil to help the soil not dry out. Wyoming is so dry, normally you need to water almost everyday otherwise. I add it to my poor gardening soil (though not as much as would be ideal because of cost). Although it expands a lot, I use it in so many ways that I can't afford to buy as much as I want.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I used sawdust pellets in the past, but this stuff is the best when it comes to compost filler. I have also used it as mulch, but prefer it mostly as an additive for compost.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Great product to add to my sandy soil.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I use this as part of my composte and as an additive to my container garden soil. It works great and was easy to use.

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
These bricks are so easy to use and store. Reconstituting them doesn't get any easier. For a female in her late 50's who does not like to maneuver large and heavy things anymore this product is perfect. I am just starting a compost pile so this is the only thing I have used this product for so far but from the other reviews I see where adding it to potting soil would work very nicely.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Love the bricks. Easy to use and store on the shelf until needed. Quickly helped add "brown" to my compost pile with too much "green".
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I use this product as a bedding in my worm compost bin.
I also mix it in with my potting soil to enrich the soil. It is very light and airy and it gives the soil a good texture.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Great stuff for starting plants from seed and for using as bedding in worm composters.
And I really like that they're already cut in half for me!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I've added this to soil mixture for water retention, and it works perfectly. More environmentally friendly than peat. I also add some to my comnpost for "brown" materials to aid in composting.

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I'm not a big girl and trying to haul gigantic bags of bark and such for mulching is not fun. These blocks are light as air and once you add water *poof* you have a bucket full of husk. Great coverage and I like the way it looks in the flower beds. I'll definitely be ordering more in the spring.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I use the Coir Bricks regularly in my drum type composter, as brown matter and it works really well!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Added to mixture in composter. It is heavy when full of moisture, but separates very easily.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I'm a junior high teacher with 2 worm bins in my classroom. My Environmental Lab class learns about vermicomposting, then sorts the worms & changes the bedding to the brick coir.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Use it to add carbon to the composter as the garden has mostly green waste and needs more brown dry waste. Easier than shredding paper bags and adding them to composter. Keeps the compost balanced between too wet and dry enough. Good idea.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
There is so much in the bricks that they come in 2 halves. One is plenty to start the worm farm and it is perfect consistency to keep moisture perfect. I'm adding about a 1/2 c. each time I add food and it keeps the fruit flies from coming. Much better than cardboard and it's natural and I don't have to worry about what's been added like with cardboard. My worms are very happily reproducing!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
In our high pH black "clay" soil, peatmoss as a conditioner does not last a year. this material lasts several growing seasons. Unlike peatmoss it is a more renewable resource.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Keeps material out of landfills. Loosens soil. Adds organic material to soil. Good for composting. Keeps valuable peat in bogs where it belongs.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Repotted houseplants a few months ago and not happy with the regular potting soil, so, purchased this to mix with remaining unopened bags next Spring to repot again. This should make the soil much lighter and it should not compact like the current potting soil is doing. I expect this to work quite well.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I have been unhappy with my houseplants since being repotted using two of the usual potting soil mixes, so, purchased these to mix half and half with the unopened bags of potting soil I still have on hand so that I can repot the houseplants, once again. Will not do that till Spring as the first repotting was not that many months ago, so, feel should not disturb them with repotting again so soon. That is why I cannot give any pros or cons on this product, yet. I expect it to work quite well, thought.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I always seem to lack enough brown matter in my compost. This was the perfect solution for me. I sprinkle a little on top of green matter and I am good to go.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I use this product to add brown material to the green in our bin. The most recent shipment was of half-size coir bricks, which I thought would be easier to "dissolve" into loose material than the full-size ones. However, the surface is harder than before and I had to soak the bricks, rather than merely train a hose on them. Not a big deal, but it's marginally less practicable.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I used this in my garden, especially around my tomato plants. The water doesn't run off, just soaks right in around the base of the plant. From the looks of my plants this year, I am going to have a good crop of tomato's!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I needed a way to keep moisture from evaporating quickly from my raised bed in the Texas heat. At the beginning of the season, I incorporated lots of compost and expanded shale, as well as soil amendments to improve on the Texas dirt, but it was still like watering a sieve. I read about the benefits of choir and hunted for a source. Very pleased to find that Gardner's Supply carried this product, since we had ordered other products and been pleased.
Since there was a special on a pack of 10 bricks, I ordered two batches, expecting to use one full batch this spring and the rest in the fall. However, it only took 5 blocks to put a ½ inch mulch on the 4'x8' bed. The bed is now able to retain moisture much better and the vegetables are getting a good start. The best part is that the bricks are easy to store for the next season.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Works great as the brown component of worm composting when mixing kitchen scraps and paper to form a nice environment for the worms to live in and produce the rich castings so valuable to gardens. Also has been a nice amendment to our garden soil. Retains moisture extremely well. Is also light and airy.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I bought coir brciks recently and I am using them in my compost tumbler. They are clean, odor free and take up much last space to store than the loose hay I had previously been using in my compost production.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I like to add coir to my worm factory. It makes the best compost. I've purchased bricks from pet stores and [...]. Gardener's 10 pack is the best and cheapest deal I've found anywhere.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Living in Ohio, I have an ample supply of clay soil. The Coir bricks when reconstituted with water, and mixed w/ compost have enabled me to build a raised bed for carrots, beets, onions and parsnips, above the clay.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
A useful product for balancing my compost pile and a weed-free mulch for the vegetable garden.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I purchased some bricks to add to my compost. I just put the brick in a 5 gal bucket and added enough water to hydrate. Doesn't get easier than that.

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
These coir bricks are really good to add to a peat potting soil mixture. I use about 3 parts coir to 5 parts potting soil. The potting soils I use will repel water when they dry out on the surface and it takes some work to get it to start absorbing water again. Since coir attracts water when it's dry, it is the perfect additive to get water into the potting soil again. The recommendation for a lot of house plants is to let the potting medium dry out before watering so the coir/peat combination is perfect for these plants.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Very compact; it's easier to carry than a large bag of potting soil.
It stacks easily and takes up very little space.
It's pleasant to work with, it's clean and not dirty or smelly and has a better feel in your hands than dirt or standard garden soil.
Finally, it's very economical.

Just add water!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I have an earthworm compost farm and use coir as the bedding when starting new trays in the bin. The quality of the product from Gardener's certainly equals any I've purchased from other sources and came at a much better price than I've paid so far. Barring any major price hikes, I'll be re-ordering.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I bought these bricks to supplement my two compost barrels. Whenever I put a load of kitchen scraps in, I pour some of the brick matter on top and stir with a pitchfork. I put a brick in a large cat litter plastic container, add the water and presto. I keep the container by the compost barrels. Meanwhile, the other bricks are stored nicely on some metal shelving in my pantry.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
So easy to store compact bricks and wonderfully easy to use...I keep one brick ready to add to my composting at all times, which is really handy to get the proper balance in my composter. NO ODOR when used with baking soda!

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
The compost from my electric composter is extremely concentrated. I add the contents of one coir brick to a finished batch to make garden-ready compost. It's a messy process: I reconstitute the brick first with water, then mix the wet coir material with my finished compost to create usable garden fertilizer with great consistency. I had hoped to add the coir material directly into the composter as "brown matter" but the dry, hard-packed brick doesn't break apart easily. Perhaps if some directions for how to use the product came with it, it would have helped.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:

Ease of use in adding brown to the composter.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
When I couldn't find this producd for a while I was really disturbed. My husband went on line and did an inquiry through your company and the item showed up. I promptly ordered a box of 10 and will be ordering more without question. I have shared it with friends. It expands quickly, is easy to work with, and blends extremely well with the items I use in potting. Don't get rid of it!!!!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Its easy to use - just break it open, wet it, wait 5 minutes and its ready to go. And, its light & easy to store, too - even on that top shelf, you won't need a fork lift to get it down.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
This product is perfect for use in creating a vermicomposting bin, which is how I am currently using it, both for initial use and occasional replenishment.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
These blocks are great to easily add organic matter to soil, particularly to hanging planters. The coir is lighter than soil and holds water well so I mix in a lot to hanging planters. Blocks expand quickly once water is added. Size is easy to store - nice to keep a couple on hand in case I need them right away.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
It's always difficult to identify what makes the composter start composting efficiently -- heat, moisture, worms, dried leaves -- but these coir blocks seemed to help. Each expands into a couple of gallons of nice, fluffy brown matter, like peat without the guilt. I think they balanced the kitchen scraps and green matter and therefore accelerated my composting.

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
We bought this because it was recommended for use with the NatureMill electric composter, but don't agree that it is good for that purpose. The brick cannot easily be broken apart, so must be reconsistuted whole, but this makes far more brown matter than needed for the small sized NatureMill. Thus you must store the reconstituted product somewhere for later use. We prefer sawdust pellets for our situation. These are fine for larger yard compost situations.

Compost & mulch

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Good for the money. Brick, when wet, produces alot of mulch type material. I wasn't sure how much to put in my composter, but figured out that 3 cups per about 5 cups of food works well and controls odor.

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Worm bedding. Going to try to use it for plant medium for my orchids. I imagine I will have to use fertilizers including worm tea to ensure my orchids have enough nutriments.
The only con I came across was that the brick was so solid that I had to soak the entire brick when I needed only part of it. I figured out, however, that next time I am going to only emerse the amount I need in water and when softened would break off that piece.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I placed it in my compost...and within days a huge difference... my compost is sweet smelling and rich!! absolutely love this product
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:

This is the first year I have used this product and I am very pleased. Not only does it help make better compost, it can be used as a seed starter and if mixed with potting soil will help retain water for your potted plants. Great stuff!

I used this matter as part of the foundation for my newly formed raised bed. It combined well with the Vermont Compost and some additional organic topsoil to provide a great raised bed.

Keep these on hand. Not onlu do I add this to my compost I also add it to my raised beds each spring.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
The bricks are easy to store until needed, and if it smells, I didn't notice it. My problem was I wanted it as dry stuff and it is impossible to break apart dry. Wet it and it virtually falls apart and expands and then I let it dry out, mixed it in the compost box and it appears to be doing just fine! Great to have on hand when you run out of "brown stuff" for composting.

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
This is a far more sustainable way to lighten clay soils and improve water capacity of sandy soils. Would like it to come in larger blocks for garden use.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Coir is necessary for me in my worm composting trays. This is a great way to purchase multiple bricks at a good value and ensure that I'll have what I need as my worms work through their layers of kitchen scraps. Coir bricks are a little messy to use, but are clean and have no noticeable odor. My worms are happy!
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
This makes a great mulch, I use in the composter
as "brown matter". It is difficult to break off a small piece - you have to hydrate the entire brick
which I don't want to do if I just need a little
for re-potting.

Renewable substitute for peat.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
good as worm composting bin bedding or as a mulch in the garden
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I use this for seed starting, for soil amendments, for worm bedding, and for mulch. These are the easiest to hydrate and break apart of any I've tried. Great to use in pots with potting soil. Easy way to store it when compacted.

These bricks are small but absorb water to make it useful for covering freshly added compost.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
Pretty easy to use, and once I got the hang of it I could not believe how fast the stuff I was putting into the composter was breaking down. I am going for the lawn and garden magazine cover page next year. See you there. Thanks for such a great product. Susan
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I have been using Coco Coir for quite some time now , and usually it takes a half hour or so once water is applied for the coir to break up into a usable form, but this stuff becomes hydrated quite quickly within 10 mins or less. Also different from prior coir that I have used it does not have much other junk in it, nice clean, fine ground coir.
Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
i have used several of these in both my tumbler and my compost pile. they are handy and great if you need to add an easy brown to your mix to dry things out or balance your greens. love them! i purchased two sets of 10 bricks and will definitely buy more!

Comments about Coir Bricks, Pack of 10:
I have maintained a compost barrel for several years and have always had excess moisture resulting in clumps of compost. After mixing in coir bricks (following directions on pkg.) contents in barrel are looking more like finished "gold" seen in advertisements. They absorbed excess moisture, maintaining an even balance while material is composting. Easy to use. I also have a worm bin (plastic container with holes drilled) which was getting too wet. The coir brick fixed that problem and my worm bin is doing great. It's so easy to add to worm bin - I dampen a handful and sprinkle it in. The same with the composter. I wish I knew of this years ago as I struggled with my compost barrel.
Thanks Gardener's Supply for solving two problems. I was ready to give away my compost barrel but not now.
