I thought it would take me forever to sift compost with this but it was actually very fast. It has a large capacity and is easy to use. It works best if you only fill it half way. I filled a wheelbarrow with fine compost in no time. I love it!

I am a backyard gardener with a single compost bin and no room for more. I had hoped to use this to sift shovelsful of soggy compost, but it's really designed for scoops of well-rotted compost. What I need is something bigger, sturdier and coarser all around. I find it hard to imagine a use for this; compost, it seems to me, does not need to be quite so fine in order to be useful.

I debated with myself for 6 months before I finally ordered the compost sifter. I am so glad I did.

I use it to sift my compost into a fine, pebble free mix. The holes are just the right size to let the finished compost fall through with just a few shakes, leaving behind the chunks which are easily added back into the compost pile.

Another great use: My Arizona desert backyard is covered in gravel which, no matter how careful I am, finds its way into my garden. The compost sifter is perfect for removing the rocks that I used to pick out by hand. I just scrape off a layer of soil and rocks, sift out the rocks, and let the soil fall gently back into the garden,ready for the next planting.

The sifter rinses easily with the hose and is still clean after many uses.

Excellent sifter! Nice size. I love its handles! I often use them to attach the sifter to another container I'm sifting into. (None of my other sifters have handles.) I sift everything--compost, leaf mold, mulch, dried leaves. A winner!!

I LOVE this product. I have a compost barrel that I constantly am adding to. This is such a great tool to sort out the items that are not done 'cooking' yet while the 'done' parts can be added to my soil. My plants are so happy right now.
I used it with wet compost also (right after a rain) and still loved it. I just put on gloves and smooshed the compost around in the sifter and beautiful black compost came out the bottom. All the yucky uncooked stuff (branches, leaves, grass clippings, peels,etc) stayed behind in the sifter and could be thrown back into the composter. A bit more effort but well worth it.

This sifter is perfect for sifting compost household/yard waste. The galvanized material it is constructed of is cheap and flimsy. I can't see it last more than a few years. I would gladly spend more money for better product quality

Overall, I am disappointed with this sifter. The biggest beef I have with it are the small holes that make up the bottom of the sifter. Their small size makes it difficult to sift very much compost at a time especially if it is at all wet. You really have to work to get the compost through the bottom screen, and the result is very fine textured. I would prefer an easier to use screen over very fine textured compost.

This was my first try using a compost sifter. As another reviewer stated, the label on the item says bulb sifter. The product worked fine but is relatively small. Sifting an entire batch of compost would be tedious.

This works! I can sift a nice compost as well as fine dirt from old sod, and as a bonus, I get a bit of a work out, too. Have to love manual tools - quiet! I like how it looks and it feels sturdy. Comfortable to use. So far I've used it to make compost for spreading in my beds and to make a nice compost/dirt mixture for planting new shrubs. Works well over a big bucket or a wheelbarrow.

I bought 3 so my kids could be in on this project. Sifting the soil makes sure we get out the very many rocks that occur naturally in our area. We end up with fine, beautiful black dirt in our garden boxes and raised beds. It also places a fine layer over newly sewn seeds. Lettuces, spinach, radishes and beets are all happier this year and I am looking forward to carrots that are nice and straight!

Perhaps my compost is too think, wet or just not ready, but the holes were too small to sift through it easily. Had to work in very small batches, which makes it next to impossible to harvest a full composter.

Handles are a little small for me. Otherwise I like thew shape and size of the unit. I used to make them from wood and hardware cloth. This is much better.

I throw everything I can into my compost bin. But not everything decomposes at the same rate. Large sticks, even broken into smaller pieces take longer. This sifter lets me get the compost that is mixed in and put the sticks back in for longer "cooking".

I have 1 stationary compost bin and toss everything compostable into it all year. Since it fills up somewhat quickly and I can't always get at the bottom, I use a shovel to dig out some compost and sift it through this. Then I can either dump the fine compost right into the garden or bag it up for later use. This is the only way to ensure I'm only putting the finish stuff in the garden and keeping the chunks in the bin.

I use the Compost Sifter to do just that - sort out finished compost for my yard from the chunks that aren't ready to go yet. I tried to fashion a sifter of my own, but this tool works better than anything I could come up with. The handles are OK, but I find I'm holding onto the bowl and shaking it more effectively without using the handles. A good purchase!
