Comments about Rodent Screen:

Despite precautions, a rat has been feeding on our bird and peanut feeders. He quickly discovered the new composter and its yard bag full of dried leaves. He shredded the paper sack but has been unable to get up inside the compost, thanks to this screen! A simple yet effective solution.

Perfect fit
By adaseVerified Purchaser from austin, texas on 11/29/2010
Pros:
Easy Assembly
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

This purchase replaced the exact same rodent screen, which had lasted about 10 years. Pretty good considering all the weight it bears, water it takes on, and churning of compost that takes place. It fit on first try, just like the last one did. Made especially for the deluxe pyramid composter that is also 10 years old

Bottom Line:

Comments about Rodent Screen:

I had a real problem with moles getting under my old composter. Probably after earthworms that had worked their way into the compost material. The screen is heavy-duty and should eliminate this nusiance.

Describe Yourself:

This fits nicely in the bottom of the composter and once compost is added it holds neatly in place to where the rodents can't get through. I purchased one for each composter.

too small!
By Nancy from McLean, VA on 3/2/2010
Describe Yourself:
Getting Started
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

I purchased the rodent screen because it was recommended to go with the compost bin I bought. However, the screen isn't large enough to cover the bottom of the bin, leaving a gap between the screen and the bin. Any slight movement of the bin caused by lifting the lid (which sticks) to deposit scraps causes the bin and the rodent screen to become misaligned. I have evidence of bore holes at the edges of my compost bin, which leads me to believe that the rodent screen is not working...

Comments about Rodent Screen:

The rodent screen is sturdy and made to last.
I only wish it was slightly larger. It does not cover the entire ground space at the base unless it is placed very precisely. I would be happier with it if it were large enough to rest on the bottom edge of the composter.

The screen is doing it's job perfectly
By krazynanaVerified Purchaser from Chesterland, Oh on 9/1/2009
Describe Yourself:
Getting Started
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

The screen just dropped into the bottom of the compostor . I think the screen should be larger by 1" on 2 sides so the overlap is greater. As it is now my screen didn't really have much of an overlap, maybe 1/4". I haven't taken any dirt out yet so I'm not sure if the screen will shift exposing openning for critters.

Comments about Rodent Screen:

I just purchased the compost bin. It was easy to assemble and seems to be the perfect size for my large yard and gardens(5 acres). The rodent screen was loose fitting so my husband tied it down with plastic ties. I am using it for kithcen scraps and garden waste.

Rodent Screen for your Composter
By CherylVerified Purchaser from Spring, Tx on 6/23/2009
Pros:
Grids are Small
Cons:
Not big enough
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

I haven't had any rodents, so I don't know how well it works. I guess the weight from the compost will keep it down. I just couldn't see buying a composter without it. I give it 3 stars because it doesn't cover the entire bottom of the composter.

Well constructed but not snug.
By Top FlowerVerified Purchaser from Chicago, IL on 6/8/2009
Pros:
Attractive, Sturdy, Tight mesh
Cons:
A bit small
Best Uses:
Keeps critters out
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

The fit of the Rodent Screen was not as snug as I had hoped. It was well constructed with a tight mesh and edged, but I ended up placing a piece of garden screen down first and placed the Rodent Screen on top. I live in an urban environment and wanted to be sure I did not attract undesirable rodents. It is working well. No rodents!

Comments about Rodent Screen:

after reading other reviews on "epinions" I was somewhat hesitant to order composter and screen, but as I needed a composter I took a chance. I am very happy with product and it seems you modified hardware as it was very easy to put together. I did it myself in about 15 minutes with just a pair of pliers and a drift pin for minor alignment. Too early to indicate how well and fast it composts.

Might need some duct tape
By RappaVerified Purchaser from Benton, GA on 11/20/2008
Pros:
Seems sturdy
Cons:
Too small
Describe Yourself:
Getting Started
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

Although the screen seemed fairly sturdy it is too small for the pyramid composter and will therefore allow passage of the very rodents you're trying to keep out. Perhaps some duct tape will keep it in place and patch up the spaces.

This is a rodent screen for the composter, the screen is well made and looks fine, but the composter is not. The composter was very hard to put together and the cover doesn't even fix the box.

Not a good fit
By LeeVerified Purchaser from Birmingham, AL on 9/5/2008
Pros:
Fine mesh, Well constructed
Cons:
Does not fit well, Will fall out
Best Uses:
Fertilizer Production
Describe Yourself:
Avid Gardener
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Rodent Screen:

My compost bins were homemade. I live on heavily wooded subdivision lot that is a little less than an acre. My bins are an attractive home to both a type of venomous snake and food for them. Having one say hello when I opened my garage door one night made me order the enclosed bins and screens. The screens can "fit" one of two styles and they did not completely cover the bottom of the larger. Keeping rodents out was a primary goal. I could make a crude screen easily that would work better.

Comments about Rodent Screen:

I wrestled the rodent screens into place (which involved emptying my composters and then refilling them) but found that they didn't fit tightly enough to keep out the rodent life. Luckily it's a resident vole and not a rat, so I decided to give the guy a name and live with him instead.

Comments about Rodent Screen:

My yard backs up to open fields so putting the screen in was very important. I almost fell into the composter trying to fit the screen in the bottom. However, a taller neighbor with longer arms popped it right in place. It's done a great job for me!

Comments about Rodent Screen:

The screen does not fill all of the space in the bottom of the composer. You would be much better off with cut hardware cloth instead. The screen itself leaves significant gaps in the bottom of hte frame.
