Applied the nematodes the day I received them. Haven't seen any reduction in the gnat population in the last few weeks. [...] Maybe nematodes died in transit? Felt it was a waste of money.

I tried this several years ago and it worked really well. Then the fungus gnats returned this last year and I decided to purchase again as am sure it doesn't last forever. It seems to have been very effective again. Will see how long it lasts this time. I do like the fact that it is not a pesticide

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I bought some of these in spring 2009 to treat my houseplants because we had a crazy fungus gnat problem in our apartment. It was terrible. These nematodes were expensive, and I was a bit skeptical, but it worked wonders. We have had virtually no fungus gnats since then. If I get them again, I'll offer to split the batch with a friend because it can treat way more than I needed it to.

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I spent months trying to get rid of these annoying fungus gnats. This product does work. It's been a month since I applied it to all of my house plants and I see no gnats! The only downfall is that this product is a one time application. Once you mix the product it makes one gallon which is more than needed given the amount that is applied to each houseplant. The product is only good for 2 hours once mixed so for[$]it is expensive. But it did work.

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I have been ordering from Gardener's for many years and have always been very satisfied with EVERYTHING I have ordered! This product is effective and arrived in a timely fashion. Since I used it for established houseplants and seedlings I have a mixed impression. It worked fast on the seedlings. I am still waiting for all of the fungus gnat larva to go away on the larger plants. So, as long as I start new seedlings I have to re-order fresh nematodes and treat each new plant. Maybe once all the gnats are gone I would not need more. Time will tell.

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

Being a city dweller who loves the earth and gardening, I decided to start an indoor compost to reduce my waste and produce rich compost for my plants. I've been composting using "The Worm Factory" worm bin for two years now. I also run an additional worm bin for my office. Overall both bins have done very well except for a reoccurring infestation of fungus gnats every 6-8 months. The gnat guard works great in getting rid of them. I usually cut the sponge in half and do two doses just to be safe. They usually go away for a little while, but they always come back, frequently at the end of the winter (Feb-Mar) before gnat guard is available for the season.[$] isn't a lot, but when I have to keep reapplying it, it makes me wonder if composting isn't for the outdoors. We even freeze all our food scraps before putting them in the bin. Is there a better long term solution to getting rid of these pests or am I doing something wrong?

I have tried them all...neem soil drenches, bacteria applications, isolation of each plant in bags and fogging, replacement of upper soil layer with sand, etc. I had always heard that the nematodes were the way to go, but could never find them on an affortable, non-commercial scale. When I saw Gardeners was selling them, I immediately pick them up and have FINALLY cured a 2 year infestation!! They're finally gone!!

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I followed the instructions exactly as others cautioned in reviews. It made one gallon (no way to make less),and the directions said that it doesn't keep; so you have to use it all at once. If you need another application, you'll have to buy more and that's expensive if you only have a few houseplants. It also took 3 1/2 weeks before the gnats were gone and maybe it's because I threw out the offending plant!

Started a vegetable container garden on my screened in patio last fall. The gnats were growing better than the plants particularly with the cold winter. Bought my first batch of gnat guard [...] in February. Did not notice a decrease in the gnats but thought it might be due to continued cold weather at night. Bought a second batch two weeks ago and applied it the same day. With a magnifying glass could see the nemotodes were alive. However, still have a healthy batch of gnats. Still searching for something that will work and is, hopefully, organic.

I must admit I wasn't sure that little sponge could get rid of the fungus gnats that were driving us 'buggy'. But after months of having the yellow 'white fly' strips laying around to catch them (which didn't solve anything) I think we are about done with them. I will watch my watering more closely in the future.

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I have had troubles with fungus gnats for years, as soon as I bring home plants from a nursery. I have asked at many nurseries and no one even knew what I was describing. Last summer I took a class from a Master Gardener, who told us about them. When I saw Gnat Guard in the Gardener's Supply catalog, I ordered it immediately. When it came, we were having bad weather and I had to keep it in the refrigerator for the 2 weeks as described in the instructions. It worked spectacularly! TWO DAYS after I applied it to my pots, I saw no more gnats. I am about to plant some more pots, and I will order more Gnat Guard as soon as I have finished. So many "natural" remedies don't work, that it is wonderful to find one that really does what it's said to do. I don't have to fear breathing in or getting some poison on my skin or near where birds and other wildlife feed. It is easy to use and there is no harmful residue to worry about in a container or where it is mixed. It is a naturally occurring life form and will not cause a problem like not having a natural predator, etc. It doesn't fly out of my yard after I have bought it to eat my problem bugs! I would say it is perfect! I am glad it is available to regular people through Gardener's Supply. THANK YOU!

LAST year I bought one order of these and it worked like a charm! Gnats obiliterated and continued to work all year. When the gnats began to show up this year, I ordered again (in spite of bad reviews this year) and I think this batch of nematodes WEREN'T ALIVE or active - even though I used them the same day I received them. I still have gnats, and noticed I don't see the tiny little "carcass" remnants in the drainage tray that I saw last year. Think I need a new batch or a refund!

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I think the gnats ate the nematodes! Just kidding but I was very disappointed. I applied as directed as soon as it arrived. It's been 3 weeks and I still have not seen a decrease in those pesky little gnats. I would like to give it another try but at the price I cannot afford it.

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

I gave up on all other solutions and tried this a couple of years ago. Worked GREAT and lasted a long time. Now (2 years later) we are seeing gnats flying around (perhaps a new plant infested us?) so tried some other remedies (vinegar - fly strips) and decided to bite the bullet and get the Gnat Guard again. We look forward to relief, FINALLY! Ordering TODAY!

I applied as directed, and then reapplied in two weeks. Never got rid of the gnats. I don't know if the nematodes "survived" shipping. Great idea, though.

I bought gnat guard for some house plants. It arrived in a styrofoam box to keep it cold. Although I followed the directions mixing it up and applying it to the plants, the gnats are still around.

    Comments about Gnat Guard:

We bought a houseplant, which we later discovered was gnat infested. We tried several chemical solutions purchased elsewhere, and nothing helped. Gnats were flying all over our home, and we were also in danger of losing our plant. This product took care of the problem with one application. [...] a great natural product!

After applying this, those pesty knats quit flying around my house. So it had to work! I will be purchasing it again this year when it gets cold and I bring my houseplants in doors for the winter.
