Gardener's Supply Company works with customers from around the country to test its products in different growing zones and situations. Fountain House, a community-based, self-help program in New York City, is one of our testers. A small group of members and staff from their horticulture unit has been tending a vegetable garden on the roof of one of the residences.

In 2011, product developer Frank Oliver met people from Fountain House at a conference of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont. Frank talked with Norman Feldman, who explained the challenges of keeping their plants on the rooftop well-watered in the intense heat of the summer.

Frank asked Norman if Fountain House would like to test a prototype of a raised bed watering system. Instead of spending one to two hours hand-watering, Fountain House installed an automatic system that allowed them to expand and improve their garden.

With feedback from Norman and Fountain House, we were able to perfect our new product, the Aquacorner™ soaker system, which made its debut in our spring 2012 catalog. Watch the video and learn more about our collaboration.
