Gardening has come a long way over the last twenty-five years. When we started our business it was difficult to find a bag of organic fertilizer or a good pair of gardening gloves. It's great to have been part of the "greening" of gardening and to know it's now America's #1 leisure time activity!
As we look to the future, we are more enthusiastic than ever about serving
America's gardeners and promoting the pleasures and rewards of gardening. To learn more about Gardener's Supply and what we're up to, go to About Us.
We pride ourselves on offering innovative solutions for gardeners. But we also know that sometimes it's hard to improve on a good thing. Some of the original gardening products that we carried back in 1982 are still some of our most popular. To make sure you're not missing any of these tried-and-true favorites, check out our new online department: 25-Year Favorites.
A Partner in Your Gardening Success
When we founded Gardener's Supply back in 1982, our goal was to provide high-quality tools and other gardening essentials for avid gardeners. 25 years later, we're still focused on the same goal: offering garden-tested products, practical information and friendly service that will help people enjoy more beautiful, bountiful, earth-friendly gardens.
As gardeners ourselves, we like nothing better than meeting fellow gardeners and learning about what they're doing in their backyards. If you'd like get inspired by what some of our customers are up to, we encourage you to read a few of our Customer Success Stories.
Detlef Vandermeer produces three crops of vegetables a year in his all-organic, raised-bed garden. He says, "I like gardening here in Florida because I can grow food year-round."
Every Garden Tells a Story
During the summer of 2006, we visited several long time customers and filmed them in their gardens. They chatted with us about things like how they got into gardening, their favorite Gardener's Supply products, and what they enjoy most about their garden. To meet some of these folks and get a short tour of their gardens, see our Video Clips .
Is Your Garden Wildlife-Friendly?
Attracting songbirds, colorful butterflies and other wildlife to your garden is a fun way to enjoy nature up close. Most people don't realize how easy it is to create a haven for wildlife, nor how important it is to their survival.
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has been promoting the idea of wildlife-friendly yards and gardens since 1973. To date, the organization's Backyard Habitat Program has certified more than 75,000 wildlife-friendly backyards throughout the country, ranging from small city balconies to 100-acre ranches.
Gardener's Supply is partnering with the NWF to help raise awareness about his wonderful program. Learn more ...

Natural Lawns Gain Ground
Americans love their lawns—all 30 million acres of them! Unfortunately, the way we care for them often has negative impact on our environment
U.S. homeowners apply more than 3 million tons of synthetic lawn fertilizers and 70 million pounds of lawn pesticides and herbicides to their lawns each year. These chemicals pose serious health hazards to children, pets and wildlife of all kinds. To make matters worse, it is estimated that as much as 65% of these chemicals find their way into our lakes, rivers and underground aquifers.
The good news is that things are changing! Environmental groups in both the U.S. and Canada are helping to outlaw the application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on lawns. Many lawn care professionals are beginning to offer earth-friendly alternatives to a chemical-rich diet of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. And homeowners are starting to search out natural alternatives that don't pose health risks for children, pets, wildlife and plants.

of land adjacent to our building. This fertile floodplain, known as the Intervale, is located just 1 mile from downtown and contains some of the best agricultural soils in the country. Over the years, we have helped to establish a community composting program and a community membership farm, created recreation paths, and formed a nonprofit organization that now oversees more than a dozen small organic farms that grow 7% of the fresh produce consumed in Burlington. Our Garden Crusader Awards Program
Each year Gardener's Supply honors 26 gardeners from around the country who are putting their gardening passion to work in their communities. We award $12,000 in cash and prizes in four categories: restoration, education, feeding the hungry and urban renewal.
