Biodegradable, Eco-Friendly Cowpots™ for Transplants

  • Completely biodegradable pots make seedstarting easy
  • Transplant seedlings, pot and all, directly into garden, reducing transplant shock
  • Pots add nutrients to the soil as they degrade

Plants thrive in these award-winning biodegradable transplant pots. Cowpots™ are the patent-pending invention of Matt and Ben Freund, two Connecticut dairy farmers who were looking for an environmentally responsible way to dispose of cow manure. The manure is dried, completely composted, mixed with natural fibers, and pressed into pots. Gardeners love Cowpots because they are odorless and free of weed seeds. Plants love Cowpots too, because transplant shock is greatly reduced. Best of all, Cowpots are 100% biodegradable. They last for months in the greenhouse or windowsill, but will dissolve within weeks after planting in the garden, providing essential organic nutrients. We are very excited about Cowpots, and recommend them to any gardener who wants to increase plant health and reduce waste.

100% Biodegradable
  • Made of composted cow manure
  • 100% biodegradable

    Comments about Biodegradable Cowpots™:

I love growing seedlings in these pots, as I know that (a)they can go in the ground in these pots and they'll deteriorate and (b)when they do deteriorate, they'll be adding nutrients to the soil. The only problem is, if you don't time it right or if you over-water the seedlings the cow pots have a tendency to get moldy and/or deteriorate before going into the ground. Timing really is everything!

I am not a first time gardener but I have moved to a small apt. in a wet/ cold climate with short growing season. I am using the cow pots to start a few plants near a sunny window. ( I hope to buy a grow light system next year). I am happy with the cow pots, my seedlings are doing well.

        Comments about Biodegradable Cowpots™:

I use these to start veggies, especially tomatoes and spinach. They are large enough I don't have to transplant once the seeds are up. They add some nutrients to the soil as well. Don't worry--they don't smell. They look and handle just like peat starter pots.

Have used these for years for tomatoes and peppers. Great idea! 100% organic. After indoor transfer from seed-starter trays to individual Cowpots, you're ready to go. No transplant shock in the Spring - a couple weeks in a cold-frame and then plant seedlings straight into the garden in their Cowpots. Provides an instant organic fertilizer boost for the plants while also ammending the soil in your organic beds.

                Comments about Biodegradable Cowpots™:

Received very small cushion mum plants.
Planted them in cowpots until they grow bigger for transplanting in the spring. They are doing
just fine and the pots are fertilizing them also.
By Spring they should be beautiful and all I'll
need to do is dig a hole big enough to insert the whole pot and it'll be done.
THESE POTS ARE A GREAT IDEA!!!

Gratified to see waste product processed for great performing seed starting purpose. Best seed starting system I've ever used, and I've tried lots of them! Just a little pricey, but in a community garden, fewer transplants are needed.
