White Clover is the Secret to a Lush, Low Maintenance Lawn

  • A tried-and-true herbicide-free way to control weeds
  • White clover adds nitrogen to the soil
  • Use to top seed an existing lawn or mix with grass seed for new lawns

Before the widespread use of herbicides, most lawns contained white clover. As it grows, clover ensures healthy turf by adding nitrogen to the soil and choking out weeds. This Dutch white clover is well suited to lawns as it is a low-growing variety and has good drought resistance.

  • To top-seed an existing lawn, apply 2 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.
  • For new lawns, mix 1 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. into regular grass seed
  • Grows 4-8" high
  • Will flower if allowed
  • 1/2 lbs. seed will provide nitrogen to 250 sq. ft.
  • Comes in a resealable bag

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

We're in Northern Minnesota, Zone 3A and what little grass we have at the top of our hill is spotty and hard to walk on. Regular grass seed, for mixed sunlight, hasn't worked very well, probably because of the pines, so I bought a couple packages of White Clover Seed. That was two years ago but I didn't get around to sowing the seed until Fall, 2014! I wasn't sure it would germinate but I went ahead, literally tossing it out in a few bare spots and areas, hoping for the best. It was just before our winter snow started to fly, in early November. I'd heard somewhere that sowing grass seed and wild flower seeds did better if done before a first snowfall. I have no idea if this is true but this spring we were greeted by a wonderful carpet of clover! I'm ordering a couple more packages this year to cover some more bare spots and enhance what's there. I look forward to seeing bees and butterflies!

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

Just waiting for the white clover to spread over my lawn. It is sprouting well. Since I don't use any kind of pesticides and have a shade garden I need clover to cover all the hard to grow areas and enhance the entire look with white blossoms. Ask me in a year how its progressing!

I wanted to add diversity to the lawn and provide sources of food for the bees. Also adding natural nitrogen instead of the artificial is always the best way to go.

Since I just put the seed out - in Tennessee - I will have to wait for a few months to see how it goes. However, the seed was really good looking. I have some clover now and am looking to increase the natural and old timey, to say nothing of healthy, look to the yard. Clover, violets and yes, dandelion.

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

I am so tired of traditional turf, yet replacing 3000 SF is not practical, so when ever a bald spot appears, I will now plant GS white clover seed. It is a little powerhouse! Such healthy seed, germinating in no time at all and with a bit of water while small, this seed succeeds! I adore seeing the white flowers throughout my turf. The few rabbits in my yard eat the clover, not the other plants in my gardens. Yay!
