            • Tomatoes

Purchased a set in 2013, used them for my peppers, which struggle to grow in our dry climate more than tomatoes. The pepper plants wilted less often. I use a soaker system and the halos covering the soil around the plants kept soil moist. I liked the outer ring for supplemental watering and precise fertilizing. I loved the cutworm protection; I've been wrapping tomato and pepper stems with newspaper for years - what a pain.

Purchased another set of halos on sale this year. Used them on half of the tomatoes in one bed. They definitely make a difference.

My only minor complaint is that they should be 1/2 - 1" more in diameter. My plant supports are straining on the outer edge of the support leg openings.

            plant correctly

                Best Uses

Plant laterally, NOT straight into the ground. Then place Halo over the root area. The buried stem area will develope additional roots and will allow you to simply pick up to clean and plant will not get wet when filling container. Larger holes will allow a faster flow - but if soil is sand or clay - that may defeat the purpose of a slow soaking and encourge run-off.Just re-ordered more.

It lets the water get to the roots where it is needed and not just run off.

                                    Best Uses

The idea of a larger water well seemed good, but almost from the beginning the water holes plugged up with stray seed pods and other debris. Used a skewer to clear, but now the plant is larger and it is almost impossible to get at the holes. Rain water accumulated to the top of the well and did not drain. I finally used a baster to clear the water.
Very disappointed in this Gardener's Supply product.

These halos are great early in the season. Rabbits, birds, and others love to get to those tender seedlings just planted. But the halos protect them and give them a chance to grow. I had a set last year, but ordered another set this year. They work for all types of plants. They saved my zucchini plants this year. Great product!

While I can't tell if these increase my tomato production they do make watering simple.
I find that the drain holes pulg up and the water gets slimey if they aren't unplugged.
