Useful but not perfect

Pros

  • Easy to set up

Cons

  • Unstable In A High Wind

Best Uses

A high wind knocked these over shortly after I'd planted my tomatoes. The directions should say that the bamboo stakes need to extend into the ground well below the rings (which the knobs on some of the poles made it difficult to do).

    • Early Tomato Planting

I saw these tomato halo's last season but was skeptical so I passed on them. This year I'm in a new house with a new garden with basically virgin soil. I decided to give the tomato halo's a try. I read that the color red attracts the sun to the root of the plant which would encourage growth. Well let me tell you, it worked. I planted 9 plants the last week of April which is two weeks earlier than usual. I did use an expandable fabric net to cover the young plants at night. I uncovered it every morning until May 1st. My plants grew so fast & were dark green. My husband had to trim the plants because they were almost ten feet tall by the end of June. I did use tomato fertilizer spikes once which encouraged growth. I got hundreds of tomatoes but the quality was poor. Many were rotted, split skins, and odd shapes.I attribute this to a lot of rain, & very hot temperatures. The tomatoes that were red & ripe with no defects were delicious! But no complaints about the tomato halo's They did a good job. I would recommend them for sure.
