Additional Information

Exclusive | Italian Trough Planter Creates a Lush Terrace Garden

  • Generous Capacity: You'll get extra soil capacity and deep reservoirs not found in their American counterparts. Trough Planter holds 130 quarts of soil and 4 gallons of water.
  • Unmatched Quality: Rigid construction fends off scuffs and scratches, and they won't fade or bow in the strongest sun or under the heaviest load.
  • Self-Watering: Water only once a week, thanks to a dual-action system that uses cotton wick and evaporation
  • Timeless Design: Crisp lines and realistic wood grain, plus a choice of two classic finials, make for a sharp, uniform appearance around your property
  • We recommend seven 20-quart bags of our premium Organic Self-Watering Potting Mix; each of these planters holds 130 quarts

Our exclusive Italian Terrazza planters offer classic styling with self-watering convenience. In Italy, where style is everything, these innovative planters beautify residential terraces, side-street cafes, hotel lobbies and public courtyards. This large-capacity Terrazza Trough Planter is often the centerpiece. Make the planter mobile with optional casters, sold separately (each planter requires two sets).

Bought these for my 92 yr old mother who loves flowers but doesn't always remember to water them often enough. They are sturdy and look attractive. I am letting the water wick up before I put in the plants because customer service said it can take 2-4 weeks before working well. Hope these work well. If so I may have to buy myself some!

Comments about : Terrazza Trough Planter, White:

I love gardening but live in the city and only have a large patio and a small deck to do so. Both are exposed to the sun from noon onward; great for growing plants bad for watering. During the summer I go away on weekends and always had to ask others to daily water the plants; not good for friendships and too expensive when hiring a service. I started purchasing these planters many years ago and own over a dozen in all different sizes. If it doesn't rain the water reservoirs of the planters will supply the soil with much needed moisture. If it rains too much, the extra water runs out of the pots; that is also important. Up to a year ago, I had only purchased the white planters because I found them most attractive. However, they don't age well because after a couple of years I can't remove the stains; even with a power washer. I switched over to the black planters and they look great and no stains are visible. Though these planters are not cheap, I would purchase them again and again. I placed wheels underneath all of them and am able to move even the largest planters. During the winter I cover them up with tarp. (It would be nice to purchase covers that are cut to size.

called the company, they said it just doesn't move much. Doesn't come anywhere near the max line. Will have to just watch to see when it overflows which makes the indicator pretty much useless.

Comments about : Terrazza Trough Planter, White:

We bought two of these 4' planters in early spring. Due to late Colorado snows, we weren't able to plant anything until late May. Due to some warping of the plastic, the sides on one of the planters were challenging to put together. An extra pair of hands, a rubber mallet, and some elbow grease, helped me snap the pieces together. Otherwise, the assembly was straightforward and only took a few minutes other than the stuck pieces.

We bought the planters along with the recommended self-watering potting mix. After filling the planters and watering, it took a couple of days for the planters to soak up all of the initial water. So, we refilled the reservoirs frequently in that first week. However, since then, once a week is all we need to fill it. Colorado is very dry, and we have much more evaporation than most places, but refilling once a week is all we need to do.

Our spinach and Swiss chard germinated outside straight from seed in about a week, and we'll be able to start harvesting in about 3 weeks as I type. The other planter has a mix of part-shade / part-sun flowers and plants which are thriving without my having to put a dedicated irrigation line to them or lug the hose out every morning. They look great on the deck (we got the black ones). Colorado sun is intense, so we'll see how they hold up over time, but my wife and I already plan to pick up several more for next year since these have worked out wonderfully and look great.

I purchased 5 trough planters about 6 years ago that have held up well. I live in Central California where we have summers that have several days over 100 degrees and winters that can have some days in the low 30s and even down into the high 20s. I will add more planters from this line as I redo my planting areas. I have primarily drought tolerant plants so I don't care about the self watering feature. I want planters that look good, hold up well and are the size and shape I need. These troughs work well for me.

Planter for outdoor garden. We'll see how they work over time, the reservoir concept was what sold me on the planters.
