It looked great in the catalog

Pros

  • Tall Enought For The Vine

Cons

  • A pain to put together

Best Uses

It was very difficult to assemble. In theory it may have seemed good but the functionality was a disaster. As you assembled one section the other section would come apart. It didn't matter how we approached this from laying it on the ground to trying it standing up. You put one section together and as you put it into the ground the other section would fall off. The designer needs to come up with a better plan.

I LOVE these trellises. They are attractive, sturdy, and easy to assemble. They can be configured in lots of different ways - short, tall, square, zig-zag - you get the idea. Wish I'd purchased them years ago. They are so pretty in my vegetable garden with tomatoes, peas, beans, and cucumbers. Maybe next year I'll add some to the cutting garden for sweetpeas and morning glories. I might even feature them in future editions of my "Fleurs du Jour" books.

Adding 4 re-bar stakes spaced out should give lots of stability with heavy vines - will know more when I harvest the pea pods.

I Bought this unit. I found that it was difficult to assemble (meaning adding the top portion of this to the bottom) I ended up just using both of them in the ground and just got a bush type pea that does not grow beyond 24 inches. This is an attractive unit and glad I did purchase it.

                • Any Plant That Climbs

Fence works great. Easiest to set up with 2 people but 1 can set it up. Stands on its own but if used with heavy plants I suggest you add a support. As I get older it also get harder to set up the garden. This fence has been a lifesaver. Be careful when setting up the fence--not to let the parts separate. I tie then together to keep that from happening.

Stack it and it's perfect for tall peas. Un-stack it and it's great for shorter vines. Place it around and enclose it in screen or garden fabric and it'll keep the rabbits out of your sprouting vegetables. Make a circle or a square or a triangle and it provides fencing for vining plants in raised beds. I need more of these!

                  Deluxe cucumber trellis-too small

                  • Too small

                  Best Uses

Over the years I've bought many products from Gardener's Supply, and I've been pleased with most of them. Some time ago I purchased a medium or large cucumber trellis, but it was too small, so I then purchased the deluxe cucumber trellis. It is also too small, so I put the two trellises together. The cucumber vines go up one side of the (combined) trellis (4 feet), over the top (4 feet), and then down the other side. This works.

Besides being too small, I was unable to put the deluxe cucumber trellis together properly. The two pieces for one side slid together easily, but the other two would not. One piece was 1/4" longer than the other, so I could either bend one piece so that it bowed out, or not connect that end and use the two metal clasps to hold the two pieces together. Clearly, this was a quality control issue. In addition, I could not manage to attach the assembled sides together with the four corkscrew clasps that were provided. I managed to get two of the corkscrew clasps about a quarter of the way on, but even with pliers that was all I could do. Still, it held together.

                    I like the color (green).

I recently bought supports for peas, but it is still way too hot in Atlanta to plant peas. I haven't even assembled the peas supports yet, so I can't comment yet on their usefulness.

Use for sugar snap peas in the spring, long beans in the summer and not sure what we'll use it for next! This is our first year with this, so can't comment on how hardy it is, but so far so good!
