Light weight and too many pieces

By Maura's Casual Comments

from Lancaster, OH

Verified Buyer

Pros

  • Lots Of Product Pieces

Cons

  • Hard to install
  • Light weight

Best Uses

  • Small Vining Veggies

Concept is good but all the pieces come apart. I succeeded in building two separate free standing trellis and have more pieces to build a third but I was never going to get the whole thing installed in one unit, especially all by myself. Design could be improved.

I am using the tall pea trellis as a barrier around my apple tree. The deer keep eating the bottom branches and so far this is keeping them away!

Pea Trellis

Pros

  • Strudy

Cons

    Best Uses

We purchased the trellis specifically for support for our sugar snap peas. The trellis was a bit tricky to put together as the panels bend and fold so getting them lined up was somewhat of a challenge. However, once you get the trellis put together it works beautifully in the garden. The peas climb it on their own and are standing up perfectly straight. You will need the stakes that are a separate purchase to help stabilize the trellis if you are in an area that gets some wind.

the total ordeal of trying to put this P ladder together alone was so frustrating I was ready to bend it in half and ship it back in the box. Once together and up it looks good but I am totally dreading trying to install it again next season. ...Not at all user friendly.

          • A pain to put together

          Best Uses

It was very difficult to assemble. In theory it may have seemed good but the functionality was a disaster. As you assembled one section the other section would come apart. It didn't matter how we approached this from laying it on the ground to trying it standing up. You put one section together and as you put it into the ground the other section would fall off. The designer needs to come up with a better plan.

I LOVE these trellises. They are attractive, sturdy, and easy to assemble. They can be configured in lots of different ways - short, tall, square, zig-zag - you get the idea. Wish I'd purchased them years ago. They are so pretty in my vegetable garden with tomatoes, peas, beans, and cucumbers. Maybe next year I'll add some to the cutting garden for sweetpeas and morning glories. I might even feature them in future editions of my "Fleurs du Jour" books.

Adding 4 re-bar stakes spaced out should give lots of stability with heavy vines - will know more when I harvest the pea pods.

I Bought this unit. I found that it was difficult to assemble (meaning adding the top portion of this to the bottom) I ended up just using both of them in the ground and just got a bush type pea that does not grow beyond 24 inches. This is an attractive unit and glad I did purchase it.

                        • Any Plant That Climbs

Fence works great. Easiest to set up with 2 people but 1 can set it up. Stands on its own but if used with heavy plants I suggest you add a support. As I get older it also get harder to set up the garden. This fence has been a lifesaver. Be careful when setting up the fence--not to let the parts separate. I tie then together to keep that from happening.
