This quarter inch mesh is good if the compost is dry. The small 1/4 inch mesh will clog if the compost is wet. However, this is available in a larger mesh size.

Comments about : Steel Compost Sieve:

This is a great tool for refining soil in my raised beds -removes larger pieces of material like leaves and twigs from soil where seed is being sown directly.
Use it like a potato masher to break up softer clods of dirt. Use it like a colander to give just-picked root vegetables a quick hosing down. This sieve is built to last.

We had built a large compost sifter which fits over a large wheel barrow. It is heavy and bulky but convenient when handling large amounts of compost. When I saw this item I decided it was ideal when I need a smaller amount of compost for the garden. I think these two items will complement each other well.

keeps out only the smallest stones, grinds just about everything else; great for crushing dried leaves and woody material
