I got this box for for seedlings that grew too big and the weather was too cold to plant out yet. I will also make a herb box to stay in for winter. It has excellent depth for the size and the self watering works great. Wish it was a little prettier. Also I ordered the stone color which looks white in the website picture, it is not white at all.

I purchased these because I am placing them in the front of the house where they will get full sun, and didn't want the soil to dry out.
The color turned me off since they look to be a light gray/white on the website, and are called 'stone', but they are more of a bone or almond maybe even a light harvest gold, not a fan of the color at all.
I looked at the water indicators to see how they worked and noticed the red topper on the top of the indicator was cracked. I then checked another one, another one, and another one...I had purchased 5 of the planter boxes and all of the little red indicator toppers were cracked or broken. I didn't want water to get in the tube and possibly hinder the floating properties of the bobber/indicator, so I went to the hardware store and purchased #6 thread protectors which fit perfectly over the indicator tube.
Since I am using them outdoors in the rainy PNW, I read the instructions and was confused by the 'locate the 4 columns at the bottom of the tray and drill a hole in 2 or more of them'. There are at least 8 'columns' coming up from the bottom...are they talking about the 4 taller columns? or the 4 shorter columns? I guessed and chose the taller ones...hope I picked the right ones.
I am using these to plant herbs and strawberries, they look very nice and seem to be much sturdier and better priced than ones found at a big box.

                            • Annuals
                            • Lettuce
                            • Small Vegetables

I bought these in the 32" size because I planned to use them next year to grow pole beans and morning glory to cover my patio walls, which are surrounded by concrete. The containers I used previously were a little to small to handle all the plants I had in them, especially such fast growing plants.

When they arrived, I was really happy to see the were not bright white, like they appeared in the picture. They're a light beige and a little speckled, and they look quite nice. I was too impatient to put them away until next year, so I filled them with fall vegetables and greens that I didn't yet have space for in my raised bed.

They are a nice size for lettuce, and I've also got Swiss chard, kale, and baby bok choy, with the hopes that the containers have enough space for their roots. So far, so good!

They are outside, and they are exposed to rain. After a heavy rain, the reservoir is filled past the "Max" line, which could be bad for some plants whose roots reach the bottom. When possible, I've moved the planters to a covered area when a heavy rain is predicted, to prevent drowning my little plants.

The containers can also be used like a standard container if you put holes in the bottom and take out the reservoir. It would be nice is they could have the best of both worlds- if there were drainage holes above the max fill line, so some water could be stored, but it would prevent overfilling. I may experiment with drilling such holes when I use these containers again next year.

After buying 3 of the larger 32" size of these containers, I came back and bought 3 of the 24" containers. I really like the look of them, and they're a very functional size and shape.

do work to keep plants watered for extended periods of time. so in hot south carolina this is great

they can be adapted to work in both an area that has no rain exposure or one that does.

I have purchased 6 of them now, so you know I am pleased with the product

It works great. I love it you only need to add water every few days, instead of every day. My herbs are growing great. I usually manage to kill the herbs in about month. But this year they are growing better than ever.

                                        How-To

                                        • Beautiful, bountiful planters depend on good soil, fertilizer and careful watering. But to take your planters from standard to sensational, you need the right plants. Start with this simple rule: Combine plants with three different habits. In other words, thrillers, fillers and spillers.
