      Comments about Self-Watering Patio Planters:

First of all, Gardeners Supply has staff that are a delight to speak with. They are patient, answer all questions offering suggestions when appropriate.
The self water planters are a dream for a starting gardener. I live with a balcony that has sun all day, lots of ocean breezes and a ton of air pollution. I added wheels to ease the moving of my three planters because as the plants grow I may need to rearrange them. One of the three is the tomato kit. It's ideal because it comes with all one needs. I could go on and on but you get the picture. I highly recommend the self watering planter because I know my plants are getting the moisture they need. Last, for a small garden the size of these planters is ideal.

      Comments about Self-Watering Patio Planters:

I had the older style with a top filler, but eventually the internal grid broke making it useless (after several years). I bought 2 of these as a replacement. Both broke out the bottom after just one season, one from being blown off the deck in 60 mph wind gusts, and the other around the wheels (weight maybe? It did have a rather full load of tomatoes at the time). The plastic it is made of is not flexible enough, and the side fill makes it harder the tell when watering is needed.

            Comments about Self-Watering Patio Planters:

This has become my "go to" gardner gift - we have three that were part of tomato growing kits and we only grow our tomatoes in these now - they are easy to use and produce a better prodcut than planting the tomatoes in the garden. We orginally thought they needed protection, but for the past three years have used them outside in full sun - they work very well. I gave one to my sister and two to my son - they are very pleased as well.

              Comments about Self-Watering Patio Planters:

We like self watering planters very much because we are not always at home to keep plants well watered. We have found two excellent uses for these rectangular planters. Our son rents a condo and has placed several on his patio so he can enjoy growing flowers and smaller vegetables. Although we have a yard we use them for tomatoes because they do very well in the planters.

                Comments about Self-Watering Patio Planters:

I use two of these to grow 4 tomatoes. Although instruction said bush-type or patio type tomatoes do best in these, I've been growing all indeterminate garden-type tomatoes--Early Girl, Stupice, Super Fantastic, Better Boy, etc. I do have to use the 3rd tier of the cage, but they all do well. My original one, perhaps 10-15 yrs old, (that doesn't have the lip on edge you can hook the cage stabilizers on) had its bottom corner chewed through by a squirrel this spring. Not sure if it can be repaired without fear of it breaking through, I decided to purchase a new one. I love it, and I love it that you now offer it in variety of colors. However, I don't quite like having the fill hole located on the side, not on the end. As I put my two planters side-by-side (long sides together), it rather limits where I can put them so I can have access to both fill holes. Other than that, I expect it to perform just as well as my old one. As for my old one, my neighbor decided to try and mend it, since I "always have fabulous tomatoes". We'll see if it holds; he has purchased the self-watering planter mix from your catalog, as well as the fertilizer, and we're both eager to see how HIS tomatoes turn out.

Start with this simple rule: Combine plants with three different habits. In other words, thrillers, fillers and spillers.
                    • To create beautiful flowering planters, it helps to pick the right plants. Browse our gallery of flowering pots, planters, hanging baskets, windowboxes and more. You’ll find plenty of inspiration – and detailed plant lists, so you can recreate the look at home.
