    Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

We're under watering restrictions here in drought-struck California so I've been looking for some way to reduce the watering requirements for my fuchsias and other hanging plants. These pots seem to be the answer. I use a drip system to fill the reservoir and I've gone from twice daily watering to once every other day with no excess runoff. The plants in my first four pots are doing so well that I've order more.

I'm not sure about the durability of nylon hangers that come with the pots. Since I use longer hangers anyway, I immediately switched out the ropes for some homemade chain hangers. I am using the original plastic clips but I may have to replace them with zinc eyebolts.

Also, I wish these came in some larger sizes -- 12" is too small for some of my plants.

Note: As with all self-watering planters, it takes a few days for the wicking action to take over so you need to saturate the plants initially then water normally for a few days before backing off.

      Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

The concept is good; however, the material is not sturdy enough to hold the plants, dirt, and water as designed. I had two and one of them disintegrated under the weight, falling to the ground and leaving a big mess.

              Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

We travel back and forth from our lakehouse to home all summer. We purchased two hanging planters in brown to see if plants would stay hydrated while we are away. It exceeded our expectations! Our plants are thriving in a mostly sun exposure. We plan to purchase more of these planters (and the soil designed for them)for both homes next year. Finally we can enjoy flowers again! One tip: for the first few days you will need to refill the well daily to get them started. After that, every few days depending on the exposure.

              Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

I use this on my deck that gets sunlight most of the day. I like it because when I fill it, because of the reservoir, it doesn't drain on my deck. I have to water my plants just as often as any non-reservoir pot, because the reservoir is inadequate for my sunny deck.

We bought 3 of these for our front porch. They look good, and the plants are happy. We will be getting some more for our backyard patio.

We have other self-watering containers from Gardener's Supply, and they have always performed well.

                      Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

My husband and I don't have a lot of time to take care of plants. We decided to add color to our yard with self-watering pots and this is our second year of having beautiful begonias, impatience and ferns on our deck. I also bought the self watering inserts for some of our bigger terra cotta pots and they work great! We are in Dallas,TX and it gets hot here but our yard is very shady and the large pots just need water once a week to 10 days in the early summer. As it gets hotter we check every 3-4 days and water as needed. I have found that some of the pots don't have holes in the reservoir so you can see if it is full. To solve this I took a large nail and hammered gently to put a hole in the side of the pot. Now we water until it overflows out the hole and we know the reservoir is full. Helpful hint: I put 1 Tablespoon of Miracle Grow All Purpose Plant Food (the blue granules) in a 2 gallon watering can every other time I water to keep the plants blooming. My next project is to try to grow herbs on the deck in a planter with the self watering pots. I love it when products set you up for success! Happy Gardening!!!

I like the product and have bought more of them. They are large and hold a number of flowers. Some of mine are on their third summer.

Biggest con's I have are that the rings rust and the string will deteriorate. Replacement rings and string hangers would be great.

I bought these to hang on my front porch with annuals. They are really attractive and a bargain at the price. I love the self-watering feature as I don't have to worry about the plants drying out--which they will do quickly in a regular pot. I plan to get a few more to plant ever-bearing strawberries. Great product!!
