Decided to get these hanging pots for when I went away on vacation. This is the first time I came back to living plants in my hanging pots!!! I was thrilled. Next year I will get the pots for my patio.

        Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

I am so excited to have these! I ordered a few of the self-watering window boxes, and had such great success that I ordered more. Then I was struggling with hanging planters (too much water use, drained too fast, plants didn't do well, etc...) and then discovered they had the self-watering hanging baskets. I couldn't order them fast enough! I've only had them planted about a month, but sure do love them!

        Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

I have been using these for a number of years outdoors in Zone 9. Overall I have been very pleased with the baskets.
Due to the design with the water reservoir underneath, the soil depth is only about 5 inches, so if you are transplanting a plant growing in a deeper pot, you will have to remove the bottom portion of the roots.I have done this for plants such as lantana with no difficulty.
The only complaint with the baskets is the cord used to hang the basket. It tends to fray over time, limiting the useful life of the basket. It would be nice if replacement cord systems were available for purchase. If not for the issue with the cords, I would have given a rating of 5.

              Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

I have been looking for hanging pots where the plastic hangers don't break off after 1 season. These are great, easy to water and have lasted through the summer so far 1 season. Trick will be to see if they last next year too! There are 4 hanging off my pergola on the patio. The rope hangers are sturdy (unlike traditional plastic), but since they do not stand up on their own if you hang them high you must climb up to where your hook is (vs. holding underneath and hooking the hook with plastic pots).
See attached picture..the little tree frog also loves these pots! he scared me silly when he crawled out when I was watering one evening! Hope he stays and eats some bugs!

                Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

We're under watering restrictions here in drought-struck California so I've been looking for some way to reduce the watering requirements for my fuchsias and other hanging plants. These pots seem to be the answer. I use a drip system to fill the reservoir and I've gone from twice daily watering to once every other day with no excess runoff. The plants in my first four pots are doing so well that I've order more.

I'm not sure about the durability of nylon hangers that come with the pots. Since I use longer hangers anyway, I immediately switched out the ropes for some homemade chain hangers. I am using the original plastic clips but I may have to replace them with zinc eyebolts.

Also, I wish these came in some larger sizes -- 12" is too small for some of my plants.

Note: As with all self-watering planters, it takes a few days for the wicking action to take over so you need to saturate the plants initially then water normally for a few days before backing off.

                  Comments about Self-Watering Hanging Basket:

The concept is good; however, the material is not sturdy enough to hold the plants, dirt, and water as designed. I had two and one of them disintegrated under the weight, falling to the ground and leaving a big mess.

We travel back and forth from our lakehouse to home all summer. We purchased two hanging planters in brown to see if plants would stay hydrated while we are away. It exceeded our expectations! Our plants are thriving in a mostly sun exposure. We plan to purchase more of these planters (and the soil designed for them)for both homes next year. Finally we can enjoy flowers again! One tip: for the first few days you will need to refill the well daily to get them started. After that, every few days depending on the exposure.

I use this on my deck that gets sunlight most of the day. I like it because when I fill it, because of the reservoir, it doesn't drain on my deck. I have to water my plants just as often as any non-reservoir pot, because the reservoir is inadequate for my sunny deck.
