Exclusive | The Perfect Soil Mix for Self-Watering Containers

  • Lightweight mix wicks water from the reservoir to the root system
  • Well-drained to prevent waterlogged soil
  • Specially formulated for self-watering containers; also great for standard planters

Our field tests prove it: In self-watering planters, this lightweight mix works better than conventional potting soil. Its coarse, airy texture acts like a wick, carrying water from the planter’s reservoir to the root system. The result is more vigorous root growth, better aeration and less waterlogging. It's also an ideal mix for standard pots and planters. Contains sphagnum peat, perlite, vermiculite and limestone. 20-quart bag.

      Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:

This the 2nd year I've used this in a self watering container. From what I can tell it is good - however I am still waiting for a long dry spell to really test it out. We have had too much rain. I did notice last year when emptying the pots the root stock of the plants were excellent - the plants themselves seem to thrive in it.

I use this for the upside down tomato plants because it's so much lighter to hang. Also in my container plants on my outside deck, works really well.

I have a 50foot porch that I hang baskets from in the summer. When we travel I have to move these to a part of the garden that is on timers. Not any more, we left them in place with the new containers and soil, and they stayed moist for eight days.

                  Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:

We live in the mountains of Colorado (7000 feet) and it is a challenge to be sure to grow anything. The season is short, the weather unpredictable and the animals hungry. This mix is giving my tomatoes, beans and squash the best chance it has ever had!

                  Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:

Used for my upside down tomato planters. Purchased the Gardner's Revolution Planter from Gardener's supply and this was the recommended soil. Drains well but began to grow mold/fungus under the reservoir. Plants not growing as rapidly as those I that I used the Miracle Grow organic soil. Decided not to use the reservoir and just water twice a day. Used this soil for my 4 Christmas cactus plants. They are doing very well in their new "home".

Using the mix in my (Gardener's) self-watering planter box on my deck & love that it is super-light, I can still roll the box around easily. We've had a few big storms and it didn't get soggy or over-saturated. Plants are thriving.
